    I've owned a 2016 GT for almost 2 years and the car just keeps getting better with age. I rarely notice any lack of power. And the engine has gotten more responsive as time has gone on. No doubt due to break in and the car learning my habits. Fuel economy has been good. Averaging 26 in mixed driving and over 30 on the highway. And I mostly use manual mode with the paddles. Not sure why the reviewer is getting poor mileage other than you must be hammering it harder than you realize. In fact, like other Mazdas I've owned this car wakes up when you hammer it. The biggest difference I've felt has been how settled and solid the handling has become. This car is a wonderful drive, composed and communicative. I rarely pay attention to marketing hyperbole, but Mazda's "Horse and rider" take line really does fit this cars overall personality and how connected I feel to it when I drive. Those who complain about Mazda not being more like Ford or other mainstream manufacturers, really need to zip it and buy from one of those other brands. In addition a to Amanti, Mazda also tried to compete with Toyota and Honda head on in the 90's- it did not go well because they tried being something they're not. I would also be all over a AWD with more power as well, but not at the detriment of the superb balance that Mazda has built into this gen 6.

      i don't consider 26 mix that good especially since they claim 30mpg mix...i would probably go for the accord

      Have a 2016. I'm getting 31 mpg in mixed, but mostly city traffic, driving. On open highway, getting 37-41.

      PoliticallyINCorrect to be clear I did mention that 26 was in sport mode and by sport mode, using paddles and hammering it. So this isn't simply driving around in full auto.

    I'm really leaning towards a 2017 Mazda 6 for my first car over any other car guys.. I DO NOT want something everybody has like a Honda, Toyota, Ford or even Chevy, etc. ... I want a GREAT car that is not as popular if you know what I mean...
    What do you guys think?

    I recently bought a 2017 Mazda 6 Sport for a fairly good price after totaling my 2013 Sonata in the rain. I must say it's a very nice car in terms of interior and exterior looks, and I don't even have the GT face or headlights. It's a nice tight and agile car. HOWEVER, comparing it to my 13 Sonata, the car does seem slightly louder, and indeed a good amount bumpier with its assumingly stiffer suspension. 3 or 4 years ago I would not mind it, but now on my 5th year of commuting 25-31 miles a day to college, I appreciate the softer and slightly quieter cabin on the Sonata. It surprises me that the Mazda being a better quality brand and newer car, had similar cabin sound, while I can understand the bumpier ride. However I think it's mostly wind and tire noise rather than lack on insulation. I'm not sure. Only other negative I can give it is the lack of storage. Also the Sonata for some reason had an incredibly sensitive gas pedal, giving it a very peppy acceleration, but I think it was a fluke because almost every other car in the segment doesn't have that feeling, even the 2017 Sonata. And another negative would be lack of Android Auto/Apple Carplay but that can be added with a software update. But overall I'm happy with the car.

    I test drove a used 2016 Mazda 6 Sport. After the test drive, I looked at the salesman and said, "shutup and take my f'ing money!" Traded in my 2013 fully modded Subaru Impreza and never looked back. What a fun car! I really don't want to mod it either, because it's perfectly balanced with really nothing lacking. Yeah, I could mod it for more power, but this car feels great through the power band. Just pulls and pulls and pulls until it shifts. Couldn't ask for more in a daily driver!

      @@TainaTaylorBlogs1 - Loved my mazda6 and mazda as a company, and just recently traded her in for a new Turbo Mazda CX-30. Mazda seems to be a really good car company. I never had an issue with the Mazda 6, I just wanted to upgrade and be able to comfortably drive in the Oregon snow. I still catch myself looking at the older and newer Mazda6's as they are just a really nice looking car

  • @97I30T

    It's funny how some people complain about the 6 not having a more powerful engine option, yet when Mazda did offer a v6 on the previous generation of 6 next to no one bought one.

    • @2Kriss2Kross
      @2Kriss2Kross 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      KentB27 IMO, this is peak Mazda 6 so far in design, quality, and dynamics. The first generation was nice but Mazda wasn't all there in quality yet and it was a weird tweener between midsize and compact class and the 2nd gen was a watered down for the US anonymous blob. It kind of hurts how Mazda has it down close to perfection only minus being a lack of power. They should bring back a Mazdaspeed version or at least give it power.

    • @97I30T
      @97I30T 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mr. Hand I've heard rumors that Mazda will be addressing the power issue with the next generation of 6 but you never know because Mazda tends to be pretty tight lipped compared to other manufacturers.

    • @chigasaki06
      @chigasaki06 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mazda is still a relatively small company, so I'm not sure if they can extend the resources to have multiple engine options like other competitors, at least at this juncture. I hope they do, I think as a whole , the brand is the best looking compared to their competitors.

      +ericj305 This current generation of 6 is still the slowest selling car in the midsize sedan segment so it's not going to suddenly be a hot seller with a more powerful engine either. Mazda's biggest problems holding them back from sales are poor brand awareness, mediocre brand perception, limited money for marketing and advertising, and a small dealer network. I think they're making strides in the right direction though. The new CX-9 is probably the nicest car they've ever made.

    All you people talking about more power, Apple car play, blah sound just like the people around me that keep buying Fords, Dodges, etc for those reasons, and then complain ‘cause your car’s in the shop more often than you get to drive it. All the while, I’m driving my Mazdas problem free, having fun, and still have plenty $$ ‘cause I’m getting twice as much mpg. Lmfao! You know, a wise man once told me, “It’s fun to drive a slow car fast, but it sure as hell isn’t fun to drive a fast car slow.” Have fun paying off your speeding tickets, boys. :P

      Billy Sou Yeah I don't know why Mazda decided to take out the choice to pick a higher performing engine. The last generation had a v6, they could at least add a turbo 4. Mazda is shying away from everything performance except the miata.

    • @paxtonwilliams8556
      @paxtonwilliams8556 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heck, I dont even think we can except the Miata. Doesnt this new Miata have less power than the previous generation or am I mis-remembering that? Mazda is magic with driving dynamics but its like they have completely given up on being competitive on the horsepower front.

    • @Drewbie85

      I heard from a few car journalist on podcast that mazda engineers mentioned the 2.5 turbo would fit in the 6 and 3, not sure howmany would option for that in the 6 etc, it seems more and more if not more people ask for certain options the automakers stop offering it.

      Need is a stupid argument. Why do you need more than 1 pair of shoes, 2 sets of clothes, a bed, TV or a car to start with? 300 hp is about fun, just because it's not your thing doesn't mean you get a say on what other people do.

      Daniel Costa I actually took a look at the fusion sport the other day and it has not aged well. Mazda has the better style, interior and quality by a wide margin. Sure the Ford may have double the horsepower but it's also heavier and more cramped. Got back in my 6 and had no regrets.

    • @thom3321
      @thom3321 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I disagree--I do not think the SkyActive approach will get better results than the hybrid approach. If MPG is your goal, hybrid/electric is the way to go. Performance and MPG improve. We are close to the limits of efficiency for a gas engine.
      Another thing I think is unusual about Mazda is that they are late implementing turbos. They have to do this because of the limits of the gasoline engine as they get smaller.

I completly understand yno1978's point. I like driving and want to control the car myself. While I see the advantage of some of the tech, autonomous cars are not for me. Hyundai is a car company on the verge of changing the way you and others think about their brand and it won't be long.

They supposedly want to move upscale but they are more known for sportiness , why not cement that first then move upscale. That strategy is a failure if you ask me.

    I really wish Mazda would build a sportscar with some power. Having the Miata is nice but there is a large portion of the enthusiast community that wants more than 150hp. TTV6 RWD Mazda 6 coupe or similar would be great. It’s too bad the most fun mainstream car building company can’t afford to build a sportscar.

    I'm in the market for a mid-size sedan. I'm hard pressed to fork over 32K for something without a V6 or turbo and gets *worse* gas mileage than the 2016 version. Ick! (And not for nothing, the engine in my 21yr old Contour, 165,000 miles, sounds quieter & smoother than that jar of marbles 4 banger.)

    Hello Friends. I'm blogging today because I still have car obscessions. I bought an accord touring six months ago, a black 2017 model. Great Car. But I'm still glued to youtube and wonder if there's something better. I still hit the same dead ends I hit when researching. I didn't know about the Taurus SHO until yesterday. But perhaps there will be a fusion SHO? What is my point friends? Especially to Tragic HIP HOP? I would put off buying a car as long as possible, for your dream car may come out in the next three or four years. Hope this helps.

  • @buchajo
    @buchajo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you drive it hard, of course the gas mileage won't be close to the 'ratings'.
    I have a 2010 Mazda3s. Has the old 2.5L (pre-Skyactiv) in it and it's a hoot to drive. And, I drive it very hard. I average about 17.5 MPG mostly in the city. For a 4 door, smallish 4-cylinder car. I would imagine a newer Corvette probably gets better gas mileage.
    I guess I don't care. Gas is cheap. Fun is priceless. At least when you're driving with me. :)

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my friends at Mazda...As a software-only piece, yes, technically it could be added to most SKYACTIV Mazdas from 2013/14 and on.
      But, that doesn’t really consider the rest of the vehicle. First and foremost, the EPA and/or the U.S. DOT allow for tampering of an ECU unless it falls under compliance.
      Secondly, in much of the vehicles with GVC, there have been tweaks to the suspension to complement the technology. The Mazda6 didn’t need any suspension adjustments, which is why we could do our media evaluation program with them (with an on/off button). The 2017 Mazda3 has a completely different suspension from the 2016 model. More tweaks will be coming throughout each successive model to make sure GVC works in harmony with the vehicle.

    Sounds like a broken record--nice car, poor infotainment, poor display, no Apple Carplay, no Android Auto, its underpowered, no torque, mpg is overrated, sexy, loud interior, Skyactive, blah, blah, blah. That doesn't sound like a good car to me. I drove one 2-3 years ago and had the same complaints about the car as this reviewer has. Nothing has changed. Just build one car that is like we want and let the chips fall where they may. Quit chasing higher mpg and build one damn car that performs!

    • @buchajo
      @buchajo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you would drive the vehicle as it was intended to be driven then you would notice a difference. Mazda vehicles are meant to be driven hard. Revved high. That's where the torque is. I have a 3 and 6 (both older with less HP than the newest models on the market). And yet somehow I'm always leading the pack. Triple digits are very easy to get to in both the 3 and 6 that I have. As you know, getting caught at those speeds = no license for awhile. And yet you think that's slow?
      And more refined? If a nice leather interior with all kinds of tech goodies (as the newer Mazda vehicles have) isn't plush enough for your butt go buy a boring Buick or Cadillac.
      As for me, I'm a Mazda fan for life. I was meant to drive. And that's how/what I drive.

    • @thom3321
      @thom3321 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mazda3: 2.5 L-184 HP and 185 ft lb torque @ 3250 rpms. Elantra Sport: 1.6 GDI- 201 HP and 195 ft lb torque @ 1500-4500 rpms. Point is the Elantra has a smaller engine and produces more HP and more torque at a much lower rpm. It will leave the 3 in the dust. The difference is Skyactive thinking sucks. Mazda is trying to catch up with their new 2.5 turbo. And I hope they do.

  • @ricsip
    @ricsip 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Meanwhile on another Car portal somebody revealed, that this fancy sounding "G vectoring control" gimmick is nothing more than the software applying the brakes for the various wheels. So no variable engine torgue as the promo material - and any random reporter - lies, but it simply presses the brakes on behalf of you, buddy! Even Mazda confessed, no extra ounce of hardware was inserted to the chassis, only software. Guess if that is true, how much sorcery can Mazda do to "variable engine torgue" that was not possible in the 2016 model-year? The result: engine torque is using fuel, and brake is used to stop the torque getting to the wheel. "Clever", "consumption-friendly" solution. The guy said that was the reason why the MPG increased (even if the increase was minimal) since previous model. That's for the BS any random reporter keeps saying, without really knowing what they are talking about when promoting any car. If that obvious BS was swallowed by the reporter without inducing brain-activity, how credible his other observations remain?

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mazda hasn't "confessed" anything. They, and thus I, were upfront that GVC was not a mechanical system but a piece of software. There's no shame there. I have no reason to not take the OEM at its word as to how it functions, and frankly, if the resultant goal is similarly achieved then...? And furthermore, how credible were the journalists who "believed" VW's and the EPA's greenhouse gas emissions and subsequent MPG ratings? During the week that we are the loaned the car are we supposed to disassemble the vehicle and individually test and inspect the components to see if they "measure up?" This just isn't realistic. I'm an auto critic not a conspiracy theory investigative reporter.

      xikefocus Mazda is a driver's car, which is supposed to be done with two hands. Porsche refused to offer cup holders until about a decade ago. bmw armrests are equally pathetic. if you drive with your right elbow on the armrest, you should be driving an SUV, not a sporty sedan.

    • @xikefocus

      BMW armrest is better. Mazda 6 is a daily driver sport sedan, should offer decent comfort.

      xikefocus I won't disagree, I'm not saying I like it that's just their rationale. BMW armrests have improved but they were dragged kicking and screaming by the competition. this car has nowhere near the performance to justify the lack of proper comforts, to that end I completely agree.
