I just realized this song is about moving on, not meeting him again...
10 years ago I must've refused to believe it. But now, it all makes sense. It's a song that teaches us that part of moving on, is to remember the good times and opening up to someone who listens and understands about the past. Once you've seen the image of this fond memory in him / her, you have truly moved on to an ever brighter future.
Man, it's been 12 years already...? I remember listening to this everyday after coming home from 5th grade. Damn.

coming back to this after about six years is quite a long time. i feel like kaito wanted to see her so badly but he never could due to personal reasons. also, the tree might've given miku hope that kaito would someday return. (maybe because he wanted to see if the box full of memories was still there, and miku would've still been waiting there) But also in the end, i feel like miku gave up on him because there was someone else waiting for her that obviously didn't have the same color hair as kaito. she had to move on at some point, right?

This is why vocaloid is great. The songs hold more emotion than real songs, and even if its not a real person singing, you can still relate to it.
Listened to this years ago, I didn't cry.

I don’t even understand the words but I can see what’s going on, like you can feel the emotion and stuff
I love this animation. There's just something about it.
I guess it shows some modesty in it. The art is very good, and so is the animation.
But it's a little far from proffesionalism. I'm not insulting it, not at all...
I like to see growing artists, and this gives me hope that I'll be this good some day. ^_^

This, for me, is the best song for Miku. Not only I loved the song entirely, I was touched by the lyrics of it and felt overwhelming emotions that almost made me cry, since I cannot right now.

my god this song hit SO DAMN CLOSE TO HOME from the middle of the song to ten minutes after it ended i cried my eyes out even as i write this comment i am still being racked with emotion.
After 12 yrs its still one of my favorite to listen.. Wow i've been tracking Miku's songs like how my parents still listen to their old tapes and albums. And Miku is my only Diva who had over 300 songs than my other songlist
It's been 9years since I heard this song, after finally understanding the meaning it's heartbreaking and very emotional. Having it be one of my favorite songs it's amazing to stumble upon this video once again.

actually, the difference between Len and Miku (according to this) is 2 years. Whereas the difference between Miku and Kaito is 4 years.
To be honest, it was 4-5 years ago when I first found out about Vocaloid, but then I started to listen to it, and I am very impressed on how good each song is. Out of all of my favorite vocaloid singers, Miku is my most favorite. Especially with this song here, where miku really uses her full emotions to sing this song away. She shows the true meaning of long time friendship and reuniting with old time friends. I never saw my old friends, but I know they're having a good time.
I watched this when i was four and that was my first vocaloid video! . I'm 15 now and I'm still loving every single thing about this video.

After reading the comments reminding me of my bestest friend ever from kindergarden and she would be my only friend there because she was the only nicest one who kept trying ot make me talk when i was so shy and i opened up so much since then. I will never forget her and i'll still remember her from this day on. I love her that way she is and shes such a good friend and not many people are that way nowadays...

Oh gosh... OK, So Miku and Kaito were childhood friends. They made a promise to be together forever, but Kaito had to leave for who knows what reason and we have no clue where he went. So, everyday since then, Miku has waited at the place she last saw him, in hopes that he might come back.

I love this song, it's very nostalgic !!
They were young love -- really really young love. Look at how Miku goes from a simple slip to an elementary student's outfit, then middle school, then her regular outfit (i.e. 16 years old). I think that implies that Kaito and Miku weren't even in school yet, so only 4-6 years old.
On their last day together they built a time capsule of some of their favorite things (particularly Miku's music box, it's the first thing put in at 1:08) and buried it under the tree. After, they made a promise to always stay together and then fell asleep. Kaito woke up first. He couldn't bear to break Miku's heart by saying goodbye, so he left while she slept. She woke up to him gone and cried...
Her crying makes me think she knew that was their last day together. And the way she waits for years, maybe part of that promise to stay together was that Kaito would come back one day.
But he never did. Some 10 years later, Miku has finally moved on to a new love. But the summer she and Kaito spent together lives on in her heart. At some point she must have dug up the time capsule, and the music box fills her with nostalgic memories of a long lost love.

To "attempt" to answer this to my best knowledge, it seems Kaito in this video was just one of those one-time summer friends that you never see again. That's just how it came off to me anyways.

This is like she came to this place just to say goodbye and move on with her new love. (other implies that he is her "Master" but I think he is just a guy who became Miku's lover)
