    Henry didn't need a scary helmet. He was a terrifying person once described as a petulant teenager with a loaded handgun.

    What's with the weird lensless glasses?

    • @annodomini7887
      @annodomini7887 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They were glasses, spectacles had been around for 200 years prior

    • @andrewcomerford9411
      @andrewcomerford9411 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      By this time he was practically blind without his glasses. The story goes that the servants clearing the Royal Apartments after his death found some 47 pairs of spectacles - not one in its case. There would've been lenses originally.

      Armor during the 18th&19th century was sold and gifted as it was highly prized for a wealthy man to display it in his manor all over Europe. Most likely it is still in someone’s garage or estate in Europe...

    so was Maximilian implying that Henry the 8th was the devil?

    • @annodomini7887
      @annodomini7887 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No, not at all, during the beginning of the 16th century armpit had become obsolete due to gunpowder. But knight and men at arms still wore them on the battle field (which is a another armor & another story) but during parades you would want to outdo your cousins (kings) to show you had the best blacksmiths in the known world. Which would grant you prestige among your subjects. So it was more of Maximilian trying to awe and show off to Henry.

      I think your more likely to find the gunpowder supremacy came in the 17th and 18th century rather than the 16th especially during the first half of the century.

    its a bit worrying how casually she handles the piece - Even letting the metal clang against one another as she is holding it one handed..... Next time put it on a mount or a table . Far too casual in its handling one mistake and its on the floor dented

    The reasons to preserve this stuff is more from a controlling point of view to keep the monarchy 'special' yet the taxpayer still pays if they want to go and see our heritage.They wouldn't let this stuff go if there was no funding, they'd find money - one less nuke or something. so I don't understand why the fool public still pay for its upkeep. It's not like the whole era and reign was something to celebrate afterall. A very interesting and unusual helmet never the less. I wonder the symbolic meaning.

      Because it’s our history and our ancestors built these magnificent works of art and watched the kings and men at arms parade past in them. When men fought face to face by the thousands, when men were men of honor.
