This save is great. Knowing that the entire business model is selling star players when you recieve a substantial bid and replacing them for profit would it not be worth while starting to focus on the development squads so that you have replacements already at the club ready to step up?
Thanks, really enjoying it. The Saudi thing is a little annoying, not because you are selling btw. Just the amount of interest you're seeing 3 seasons in when IRL that activity has kind of already dissipated to a greater extent. Hopefully SI get the balance right in FM25.
Really think long form content like this suits you, you can really see how much you love talking about the save and building the narratives and making the story your own. That enjoyment really comes across in the video itself ☺
I have a save with sporting where im maybe 15-20 seasons in doing moneyball, up to 20 year olds transfers in only, where i set my own rule to not buy anyone over 30mil. My transfer budget is about 2 billion, the economy in general is about the same amount, and my board is increasingly frustrated with me not spending it all.
I actually think it would be more interesting to do one 10 years into the future, where regens run the world and you can't abuse previous knowledge, but maybe that's just me
The £60m signing, I'd still say are money ball.. Brentford have been signing young undervalued, unknown players for years & then practically broke our record signing by signing big (at the time) for an aging Pontus Janson, who came in and lifted the play off trophy with us
I've paused the video at 1:32:15. As a Burnley fan, I'm shocked and appalled that my club being interested in your player is grounds to bin him. It's also hilarious. Great series, Clayts.
Great video mate u really squeezed the talent threshold in the game by excessively scouting....kudos. My bargain moneyball players costed around £75 million in total 1. Jonathan Asp Jensen 2. Joao Veloso 3. Marton Dardai 4.Luca Podlech 5. Nicolas Capaldo 6.Oscar Gloukh
Another great video! To be fair, the teams around you are amazing and improving every season - there were 5 EPL teams in the quarter finals of the UCL. Loosing Ryan was massive, and 6th place is not disappointing. Gutted it's Conference League, but I am sure the Bees would love a European Championship!! Up the Sadius and please continue till you money ball the UCL or EPL!!! £$
Good start. Youll learn more then next year do a much lower budget team. Forign with little money so you have to sell one of your best players each summer like Portuguese teams .
Firstly… love this new series! I’ve always been fascinated with Moneyball so seeing you do this has helped me understand the way it works. Regarding Gyokores, I think it’s fine as he’s in Portugal and is a mature player on lower wages compared to other players of a similar age.
it'd be interesting for you to look at the end the attributes of your final team, see whether any of them surprise you, where maybe they've been effective but not amazing attributes
Keep up with the great work! For those o like the movie and the strategy itself, it haas been a wonderful experience! Thank you for what you are doing!
Inspired me to start my own moneyball save! Went on Holiday for 6 months and took over Villarreal in January, having an absolute blast! Such a cool way to play and i'm signing players I never usually sign
The victor signing reminds me of when Liverpool signed van dik seems a lot but because of what they achieved after and him become world class, it now seems like a real good price
This and OmegaLuke/Dad youth to gold are my 2 favourite FM24.5 saves currently, after a month off my love for FM is back, currently doing a 2013/14 retro database with Newcastle, the nostalgia!
Loving this save! When it’s done would love to see you do with with a club further down the pyramid like league one or two, perhaps afc Wimbledon or Leyton orient!?
Started a moneyball save off the back of this one. Went with Nottingham Forest, approaching end of first season mid table so keen really dive into the data in the summer window!
Borza is a beast. Become a world class LB for me and was a stalwart for my back to back to back Prem titles. I bought him for 2.7 mil and sold him 5 seasons later for 125 mil to Barcelona. He pretty much bankrolled my team in the Prem.
I agree with using the Moneyball approach to create a sustainable transfer market strategy that can turn a profit while maintaining or even improving results. You could even set a target, like earning a billion pounds by 2030. This doesn’t mean avoiding investments in the transfer market or in infrastructure; it’s just about tracking how much revenue you bring in through this method.
Yep - that’s a really nice way of putting it. My idea is also that I’ve now invested in quality, high potential young players that can take us to the next level, so we can still flesh out the squad with pure moneyball signings.
started my Moneyball with West Ham after watching you’re videos just finished my 2nd season, first season was a ropey 12th place finish i think and lacked a proper goal scorer, decided to sign Jonathan David as a striker to try bag some goals and he’s failed so decided to sign Pedro from FLA and he’s also failed in my 2nd season however got a 5th place finish in the Premier League which should’ve been 4th and qualified for the champions league, signed some really good cheap youngsters who have developed nicely and values have shot up but the Saudi teams love paying big for my players so far the only remaining player is Lucas Paqueta but it would be cool to do the form, think it’s a good idea
5th gets champs league through the coefficients. Each year the top two countries in coefficients get an extra champs league spot. All that doesn't change until after the champs league is played. You'll bump up to the Europa league then. More often than not England is one of the top two teams
I truely enjoy the long stories. Good watchingl, The only thing I miss, is getting to know and love the players. We dontget to feel the heart ache of the fans in the moneyball system.
Yeah I get that, I think we might still get a bit more of that in upcoming episodes as I’ve bought so young that we should have a slightly more settled squad for a few seasons
You could squeeze some stats from tweaking the roles. AF to CF for VG for example or HB instead of BWM as I see you concede a bit. Maybe only one BPD. Knowing the players you have you could tweak their roles. Something has been bothering me with the winger roles but I cant put my digit on it. But amazing content I love it. Will try this skin with a JLeague save I feel will be peak especially with the db update mods of lately.
Incredible video once again. I've been playing a Moneyball save Aswell with Vitesse in the Eredivisie doing ok so far but i find it really difficult to find players in the offseason. Mostly because it seems to only show me players from Scandinavia as that's the only leagues still going during that time and i have a minimum set of minutes played in the player filter. Do you have any advice on how to find players after the season has concluded?
Think the Gyokeres signing is actually semi realistic. If you look at our history we started off buying players for 500k and selling for 2-5m, then the signings were more like 4-5m and selling for 10-15m, then after promotion to the prem the signings were like 10-15m with sales of 20-25m now we're buying players for 20-30m with sales for 40m etc so think if we ever had back to back seasons in the Champions League a 60m signing isn't that extreme. Plus can always sell to Saudi for 80+ in a season or 2 and you're in profit!
💲would you be interested in doing a deep dive video on your end of season squad analysis? going into how you look for holes or under performing players in your squad vs players popping up in scouting and how they fit into your tactic? perhaps i'm just over thinking my scouting and analysis.
The last season - Fulham. My money is on them getting relegated but yet qualifying for the UEFA league due to loss in the final to CL team. Love the series 👍
There's a lot of misconception to "will we get a champions league spot if we place fifth". The 2 competitions that have gathered the most coefficient points during that same season will get an additional spot. If a team in the top 4 wins the Europa League or Champions league, this will not generate an additional spot in the champions league. Also, if a team wins the Europa League of Champions league and haven't directly qualified for champions league they will get a champions league spot. If they qualified for another European competition, this spot will go to the next team in the ranking
Not sure how far I would call it a Moneyball, I mean yes, you are using a data relevant skin but it seems more trying to bring in all talented players who are already known and hope they make the cut and develop to me. Way to high transfer fees, in my way of understanding Moneyball as well. Would love if you show us how you scout and how you pick a player more in detail. But anyway a great video as always.
💲 I think even in a Moneyball type of administration, they wouldn't sell Gravenberch for 81 million pounds. He had potential for more, even beyond the 100 million mark.
Nice video mate, but I feel like you are getting away from the moneyball aspect that was the most interesting part, buying cheaper players based on their stats. I think buying known quantities like Moore, the Arsenal boys and Gravenberch goes against the moneyball aspect of the save. It would be great if you could find gems based on their stats alone and keep it as close to moneyball as possible. Really enjoy the vids, but it was just a thought as I was watching.
Yeah, as I tried to explain in the video. We can buy players based on the stats, but we will literally just finish 4th-6th every season from this point. That’s where the game aspect doesn’t allow for true moneyball because anybody that will move the needle isn’t low value, whereas in the real world they can be. I’m still looking for those signings and trawling through the stats but we just need to recalibrate slightly and look for other examples of ‘moneyball’ as well - for example Gravenberch being transfer listed and available for below his true value and signing young players before they’ve blossomed. Fully understand what you’re saying, as it’s the internal tussle I’ve been having myself too.
@ yeah, as I watched on, I sensed that. Gyokeres is definitely not moneyball, but as you say, were you just going to be mulling about in the same positions otherwise? I think the likes of him, Hedl and Gravenberch are more “typical” signings that people make in their own saves, whereas the Japanese keeper and getting so many goals from Emegha seemed much more moneyball. It’s great content regardless and have really enjoyed both videos!
After watching the first vid and the signings you made there values shot up but this vid is just going for known players that you know are good, still going to watch to see where this goes.
Is it a setting, that the statistics are still there after a season? I loaded up the musterman skin in my current save and ended the season having a lots of fun. But after the season i wanted to recruit players but all of the stats dissapeared. Is that normal?
Yeah mate, stats reset at the end of every season. After your last game of each season, just do a save, then save under a different name. Then you will have last seasons stats to go back to when needed.
First of all, I love this series! But i feel like your moving a bit to fast with these Transfere Fees, obviously at some point you have to take steps to move forward, but FM allows you to do this, but spending 50-100 Milliok every Transfer Window is to much for me, maybe in the future you could add some Restrictions, for example that you can only use 50% of the transfer revenue you generate
Yeah I see your point, but also at the time of writing this I’ve spent £399m and raised £640m, so 62%, I’m not sure that’s so bad really. I understand not spending £50m per window but I think that’s sort of offset by the huge sales to Saudi every window. Have to also consider the content angle too, lads I’ve signed nobody and we’ve finished 5th again realistic but not very interesting. I completely get you, and it’s something I’ve thought about too.
@Clayts yeah fair point, i wrote this after beeing throught the 3rd season and then you go on to spen only 4M xD. Also the aspect of Squad deapth you talk about later is mportant for me. If you spend 60M on Gyökeres in FM you know its a good Deal but irl i feel like that Kind of Deal is much more risk tan spending 60M on 4-5 players, because even if 1 or 2 Flop you dont catch as much of a loss. So I feel spending the momey on more players would be more realistic
i love what you're doing, if i may give 1 slight criticism it is that you know too much about thi game and the players to beginwith... maybe you could skip 10 years ahead or play in a league here you dont know everybody around you so you have to go of the stats... and money will be moree suitable for moneyball maybe... but keep going man i love it
Does anyone else's stats for players reset every season? I've just gotten into my second season in sweden and now all of the player stats are back at 0, not sure how to find players once it flicks over to the new season if all the stats have reset :(
