  • Let’s face it. If you are getting into the hobby of collecting pitcher plants , you are probably drawn to the pitcher the plants produce. So if the plants isn’t growing pitchers this can be less than ideal. It is a very common thing to happen. Growers buys these plants not understanding the conditions they need or how they plant is doing and l, as a result, the plant doesn’t produce those beautiful pitchers. In this video I explain why that is and than any factors that play a role in this situation, and what you can do to get the plant back on track so you get those beautiful pitchers! #carnivorousplants #nepenthes #pitcherplants #chmcarnivores #carnivorousplanthelp #carnivorousplant #pitcherplant #flytrap #carnivorousplantcare #grow carnivorous plants #indoorplants #houseplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy

    Very informative - thanks! I have a few Nepenthes which are all growing well but some haven't started pitchering until recently when the weather started to warm up (I'm in the south of Spain). surrounding the pots with sphagnum seems to have helped with the humidity. I'll take your advice re keeping the tendrils humidified.

      Thank you for the kind words! Misting the tendrils will help for sure. Make sure to not mist the leaves or fine during the process unless you have good airflow as that can cause fungus issues. But hitting the forming pitchers will help. It doesn’t take a lot. Just a little every now and then. If your humidity is about 50% already it may not be necessary, especially if pitchers are already producing. Keep me posted!

    GOOD MORNING, I AM VERY INTERESTED IN WHAT YOU ARE TEACHING. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND ENERGY IN MAKING THESE TH-camS. MAY I ASK, ARE FUNGUS GNATS A PROBLEM TO THE NEPENTHES PLANTS? ALSO, WHAT HUMIDITY SHOULD YOU KEEP THEM IN A SMALL TENT? MY HUMIDITY IS AROUND 77 PERCENT, IS THIS OKAY? WHAT SORT OF MITES ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? THANKING YOU SINCERELY, ANNETTE QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA.

      Hey!! I am glad to hear you are enjoying the videos!! Fungus gnats are an issue with nepenthes as well but you can place sundews in with them that will help control that. 77 is a perfect humidity just make sure to have good airflow so you don’t develop mold, especially in a small tent. Spider mites are the main culprit for nepenthes but with a high humidity that will keep them away for the most part. They don’t like terribly high humidity so that’s a good thing!!! Let me know if you have any other questions, I am here to help!!!

    Thank u for the very informative video. Im struggling with pitchers drying up and dying but the overall plant looks healthy.

      Hey! This is more than likely a humidity issue. You can help with this in a couple of ways. You can spray the developing tendrils to keep them moist. You can also use a tray of water and place the plant pot on top of another pot so that the plant is not sitting in the water. Lastly you can use a humidifier.

    Yeah I have a stenophylla cross that isn’t pitchering. I think it’s lighting so I moved it closer to my grow light. Hopefully this next leaf pitchers. I definitely find that the correct light is very important for pitchers.

      Yes for sure! Keep me posted on it. I have found that Steno doesn’t pitcher a lot at a small size but when it gets big it pitcher profusely

    My boschiana x veitchii is growing like crazy,but not producing pitchers. I'll have to check to see if it's producing basals. My have over fertilized it a few months ago as well. I'd read if you do,they have no need to produce pitchers since they've had enough. I'll give it a look over,thanks for this one buddy!

      Hey! Keep me posted. It might be due to too much fert. Are the levels healthy; don’t looked stressed?

    • @mwwilson64
      @mwwilson64 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very healthy,just keeps cranking out leaves,tentril,etc. Just no developing pitchers.

      It could be that it is just going through that stage. I have a plant that didn’t produce any pitchers for months but was growing like crazy then one day it just started producing pitchers again. It could be the over fertilizing like you suspect. I have been doing some additional reading up on it and I am seeing that as a possibility too for a plant not producing pitchers.

    My old one grew 30 feet of vines in one year, but never made new pitchers :(

      Wow!!! That is crazy!!!! It might just be putting all of its energy into growing vines at the moment. It is getting nourishment for sure so it probably doesn’t need the pitchers at the moment

    I've seen your videos recently and they are great, but can I ask when I received new nepenthes their pitchers usually dried out a few days later, how to prevent this and what caused it?

    • @Carnivorousplanthelp
      @Carnivorousplanthelp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the kind words; I am glad you are enjoying the videos! It is very common for pitchers to dry out soon after you receive a new plant! This is caused by two factors. The plant is very stressed from the shipping process and as a result the pitchers dies off. The second reason is that the pitchers get tossed around during shipping and lost the liquid in the pitchers. There is little that can be done for the stress part but there are two things that you can do to better your odds of keeping the pitchers. Bag acclimate the plant once it arrives. Place it in a bag and slowly open it over the course of a week to help the plant slowly adjust to your humidity. You can also add water to the pitchers once you get them to help prevent them from drying out!
