What did impress me was the number of people that have the Audiolab 6000CDT, this modest bit of kit could well be the HiFi bargain of the decade, so much for so little.

    Interesting how many people can tell how these systems sound based on pictures. Wide angle tends to distort, many people like to pull speakers out to listen then put them back after. I spent time and money carefully putting crap behind my Magnepans only to find that it stole all the Maggie magic. For sure you should play around, experiment, but for gods sake, just have fun and tune out the audiophile snobbery. 13:09

    Steve, I have a question about your system. That shelf that you keep your records on - my question is what are you using to keep the records from falling through the spaces? Do you have a wood board or something to hold them up? It looks like a neat idea.

  • @toddh95008
    @toddh95008 ปีที่แล้ว

    Always fun to see this however I'm often amazed at how poorly some of these systems are set up !
    Speakers backed into corners and up against walls or 4-5 feet apart (yikes).
    Same for equipment and especially turntables right next to speakers or in a corner.
    For sure they are going to get huge amount of vibration and feedback etc.
    I for one would not put any equipment within 6 feet of the speakers or areas where there is a high pressure/bass peak or boom !
    Wonder who makes some of the nice Vinyl racks/shelf's at 7:25 and 13:20 ?
    Cool stuff however...

    • @shermanlewis2034
      @shermanlewis2034 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rack is an IKEA kallax with the kallax base. I also put some 1/8” hardboard on the back of it to keep the records from going out the back, but only attached it at the top of each shelf to allow for cables to go out the back. As for my turntable being where it is, I have it on Isoacoustics Orea isolation pucks which do a fantastic job of isolating it and get virtually no vibration or feedback. As for those thinking room treatment is a must, and you can’t get amazing sound without it, first I ask, do you have a spouse? LOL! Also, my setup is almost a near-field set up, so the room isn’t as big a factor as it would be otherwise. Also, I’ve heard that putting treatment behind Maggie’s steals the magic of their design. From what I understand, they need to be out away from the wall, but they also rely on the wall to create that sound. I’m grateful to have a spouse that lets me have what I have. It sounds amazing to me, and all the tweaks I have put into it have made positive impacts to the sound. I also thank the Audiophiliac for all of his help and guidance along the way through his terrific content!

    • @toddh95008
      @toddh95008 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info. Funny I found those IKEA products myself the other day (very high bang for your buck stuff).
      Your system was not one I was commenting on for the equipment location.
      At least you have the speakers out away from things and had the forethought to add some isolation.
      I saw one of these where the turntable (an SL1200 which does not have good isolation) was right next to the speaker !

    Audiophiles Need INTERIOR DECORAT- ORS! That's the main thing I got out of this. Only about a handful or so of rooms that looked appealing visually. All that sleek equipment aesthtically hampering instead of impressing. So many systems with such large amounts of money poured into them, with speaker cables laying on the floor, speakers close to wall or not spaced far enough apart for real stereo. Yikes! It was nice seeing all those systems though. Very interesting.

    it's nice to see people voting with their wallet, it really cuts some of the tiresome hot air some other reviews will churn out to keep their name prominent, even if they occasionally mislead.
    I am a guy with a great thirst for maximizing my audio purchase, and my enthusiasm sometimes exceeds my understandings, because I don't follow the audio news, and rarely attend an audio show. so I tend to get all lathered up by a review of the latest greatest stuff. Only to find out in time , that it was just the latest stuff, and somewhat pedestrian. Or, in the worst instances, complete snake oil , like the infamous "magic rocks" of old. (with those, my understanding easy and instant. .)
    really, I was once In an audio salesroom that had what looked like small trail marking cairns of those ( mappingo?) magic rocks. A quick calculation as I glanced around the room was in the thousands of dollars. I think a post hypnotic suggestion would have been cheaper. I don't see how anyone could honestly sell them with a straight face. They look just like the back decorative river rocks from a builders supply, with a very light polish

    System 2 cant sound good in that room with that hard floor.. get rid of it (the floor), cover it! And that window and thin thin curtains!
    System 3. That flat practically naked wall behind speakers and system is hideous from a sound point of view. Im not even gonna go into the instruments playing along passively.
    System 4. Good heavens. Looks like over at Fremers.
    (System 6. I want that rack. It is gorgeous!
    System 7. 27 yold and never read a boook? No shelves, no acoustic treatment, just the bare room. But the loudspeaker size matches the room size it seems.
    Room 8. If he gets a third system and cramps it into the room with the other two systems it might count as acoustically treated.
    System 10. Exellent to see that he has thick velvet curtains that he can cover the windows with when he plays music, soft furniture and lots of diffraction. If the celing is high he can try and tell the landlord to lower it because the slap back echo is disturbing.
    System 11. Turntable should be moved out to one of the side walls. Biggest and best improvement would be to drill a hole for the cable and have it in an entirely different room and have the wife switch sides so not a second of the playback is missed.And room treatment!
    System 13. Exellent. If the celing is concrete or a hard surface it can be vastly upon by having a fabric tension celing perhaps a chalked one put in. But generally exellent! If he knows what he is doung with the diy i bet it sounds fantastic.
    System 14. Hard floor, get rid of it or cover it.
    The rest is just such a shitshow and and i don't have the strength for it.
    And where are the braided cables? Not a single shakti stone. Not a helmholtz resonator or Peter Belt tweak in sight. Shocking. Audiophilia down the drain!
