Purchased the vinyl edition (the blue vinyl is quite stunning) and it’s terrific. It’s U2’s best record of the 21st century. Clayton’s bass and Mullen’s bass drum just boom through my speakers. Highly recommended.
I was discussing bands and creative peaks and creative chemistry, and I realized that U2 may be the only band I listen to that has maintained the exact same line up their whole career. I could say R.E.M., since Bill left because of health reasons, but still, you need to have all the members intact to truly count it. What is interesting about U2's longevity is they constantly re-invigorate their sound, and that's probably a chemistry thing.
The blue sleeves are meant not to fit in the album cover stock sleeve. Gate fold album covers can cause warping if there is too much space between the gatefolds. (See the width of the jacket spine.) Those blue sleeves are meant to fill that space with or without the records in them, that's where they are meant to go. Old trick used by record collectors to minimize warping of double albums.
I have seen that this box and the previous editions of The Joshua Tree 30th anniversary have been made in the Czech Republic. Does it mean that now there is no difference between the American and European editions? Since I have not seen any box made in EU.
Thanks for doing this unboxing. I bought the vinyl with a 20% coupon at B&N which got it down to a more respectable $32 and the CD at Best Buy for $15. The box looks cool but I am not overly impressed with the extras given the cost difference. As far as the extra inner sleeves - it's just pointless and a waste of resources. They look cool, but really now? I can't believe they don't even fit in the jacket. I hadn't tried to put them in there. Oh well, the most important thing is the music and it's great as far as I'm concerned.
That's pretty shoddy production if the vinyl sleeves don't fit into the packaging openings MEANT for the vinyls. I was SO PISSED when U2 made their Uber Super Deluxe Achtung Baby set out of cheap styrofoam held together by cheap glue that collapses on itself when you leave the lower drawer pulled out.
What awesome packaging. I love that U2 are throwing new projects at us after all these years. I can see them having a long career as say the Stones or Kiss. Would love to meet Adam Clayton.and talk About his fantastic bass lines on many U2 classics.
