  • Tempo prescription is commonplace, especially for hypertrophy, but most people don’t understand the true value of a slow tempo. In this capsule, Chris explains why you are missing out on the greatest impact of constant tension if you focus solely on the time element of a tempo prescription.

The fact that I've never heard this anywhere else leads me to believe he's making it up. Way too many pro and amateur bodybuilders for this to be his little secret if it's valid.

again, it's about muscle tension right. squeezing the target muscle all time is very exhausting compare to just squeezing at top peak.

I agree with what you said, but there is one thing that can be pointed out.
If you lift weight slowly (deliberately slowly, when you actually can lift it up quicker) then you don't activate maximum number of muscle fibers. That's because your nervous system always activates the weakest(type 1) fibers first, and if they are not enough, it activates more muscle fibers(type 2a) and if the load is really really heavy( or you want to move load very fast) it activates the strongest (type 2b). So by deliberately moving weight slowly, the nervous system doesn't send signals to some of the strongest fibers?
Just wanted to ask if my point is valid?
    Thank you!

Also, if you can make a video on, does training slowly, make you slower, when talking about athletic movements, used in sports like basketball, football, soccer etc.? Thanks

@@nikolayiliev4900 it depends on the intensity you are using. And if you want to be fast you always want to use stretch-reflex cycle in the specific phase.

I think the concentric portion of the lift should always be performed as fast as one can but the eccentric shouldn't be deliberately too slow but more controlled say around 3 secs would be ideal. If one wants to increase TUT then I would recommend upping the rep range.

I was thinking the same but what Iv listened to on other vids is that as long as you go to failure lifting intentionally slower you still recruit the fast twitch fibres near the end of the set as the other fibres start to fatigue which is why you can still get good muscle growth

Lots of different ways to skin a cat. Have seems tons upon tons of various ways to tear the muscle down. This is just one way. Not any more optimal.
