Box toppers should 100% have cards with value - it's such a feel bad to get a box and end up with a fancy Bojuka Bog, like why not make that a Yawgmoth's or Cabal Coffers instead.
People are going to open box after box looking for that card that should be tossed into a fire when we should realize that WotC is going to do the same thing with it that McDonald's did with the Boardwalk piece: hold onto it for a few weeks, then take it to a pre-approved specific location to drop it off at where they think it will generate the most buzz for being "found." It's all smoke and mirrors. I'm hoping whoever *does* find it actually destroys the thing, but I'm not holding my breath.
Calling back to Rudy's Double Masters unboxings, pretty sure some of those box toppers will be way more common due to internal WotC distribution algorithms. Anyone who watched those could remember Expedition Map and Meddling Mage being the "seeded dud rares", expecting Bojuka Bog being similar.

As someone who does watch Wheeler and Serge (and the occasional Nelly) doing North 100 things, I can confirm that when Wheeler does his initial evaluations of cards for the set reviews, a card having two generic mana in its cost has "Ancient Tomb mana [relevant hand gesture]" and more likely to have his approval.
Hearing Prof talking about Canlander, makes me wish that we’ll get a Canlander episode of Shuffle Up and Play with the Premier Lands pilots of the formats.

If you want a cheap version of the cycle you describe at around 11:46 just trade out Oboro for any bounce land. You've got infinite landfall right there. If you want to spice it up just add Valakut Exploration to kill your opponents by pinging them damage at the end of the turn or if you want to do it the tedious way add Amulet of Vigor to untap your bounce land, tap it in response before it bounces and get infinite mana... you can then decide what weird stuff you want to do with all that mana.

That's a pretty good influx of supply, but it's only 250,000 box toppers (ignoring that some packs are in bundles), which probably isn't going to change the prices _too_ dramatically.
I dont think that these reprint in Box toppers will do much to the second market prices, these cards wouldve been such a nice addition in set / draft displays.
They do seem to be in a good amount of collector boosters based on the openings I've watched online. Those boxes are over my budget but may drive the price down more than you expect in a couple of months

Watching this video made me decide to buy a set booster box, then I googled how many boxtopers were and since finding out there are 30 BOXTOPPERS I decided against it, and I'm just gonna get the singles I want.
Personally I love box toppers. It adds to the enjoyment of cracking packs it's a place to put reprints of value.(I'd prefer they just used a Box topper symbol like the Judge promo stamp instead of the weird thing they're doing with the commander set symbol but w/e) But, I'd really love it if they'd stop putting dud cards into everything though. Like "Oh here's mythic rares awesome drops that we don't want to see all the time in limited ... but also here's a bunch of worthless 25 cent cards in that slot that nobody even wants." Some time later, "Here's Masterpiece cards they could be some of the most expensive cards in magic history .... but probably just a sol ring or equivalent." Slightly later, "Hey here's the list slot you could get Force of Will! You'll probably get one of the 100 worthless 5 cent cards we flooded the slot with instead though! etc. etc. etc.
I think boxtoppers are a fun concept, but I'd honestly prefer if they were just alternate arts/foils of the mythics in the actual set, and they could put these reprints into the actual packs.
Reading through the cards of the set I can't help but feel a sort of detachment between the actual Lord of the Rings (its characters, creatures, events, objects of interest), and the game of Magic the Gathering. The names and art of the cards remind you of events in the book / movies, but then the cards themselves just do MtG things that we've been all too familiar with for years already; it could have been anything else than LotR mechanically. The contrast could also not be bigger when compared with the 1995 Iron Crown Enterprises CCG "Middle Earth", where you would literally create a fellowship of characters, and try to find your way to Mount Doom in order to destroy the One Ring (among other win conditions). Travel was dangerous, Items would burden you with possible corruption, wizards could cast spells, palantirs actually made you see things, and the 9 Nazgul were very powerful mutli purpose creature / enchantments (in MtG terms) cards that could turn the tide of the game entirely. That game embodied the very soul of LoTR and everything in it.
i could care less about the 1/1 i just wanna make some LoTR decks. I built myself a tree deck inspired by the ents AND NOW I GET TO ACTUALLY MAKE IT. i love it. it's not like i know much of the MTG lore anyways, so a universe beyond sets just means i actually know the characters this time. they're all just modern chess pieces for me to build fun decks with, that's how I've always seen magic. (i do draw the line at sticker mechanics though)

I ended up cracking and buying 4 henges when eldraine first came out. I admit I bought like, 5-7 green theme packs to get 1-2 of them and that was probably not a good deal at the time but looking at the prices now.... I almost feel like I should sell 2-3 of them for that sweet sweet cash and buy them again if the price ever drops drastically but, eh. I'll hold on to them. currently none of them are in use though. I barely used them when I did lol
Was really into the idea of these high value box topper reprints until I saw the awful cards they threw in the pool to dilute it. I would love to give it a try but I just know I'll be cracking a bojuka, ardenvale, thorn of amethyst or mouth of ronom.
American prices tend to be much higher than European ones, especially for commander staples which while still popular over here isn't driving the market as much.

I think it’s fabulous that all box toppers are foils; however, the numbers are staggering. If we look only at English collector packs, we know that they’ve printed 3,300,000 or 275,000 boxes, as we can deduce this from the 1:3,300,000 chance of pulling The One Ring. I’ve seen those complete case un-boxings online where each case averages about 30 total box toppers per case or 5 per box. That means there are 1,375,000 total box toppers in English collector packs! Breaking that down that’s 275,000 foil toppers, 1,089,000 non foil, and 11,000 surge foils. Hmm… In terms of how many of each of the 30 exist in collector packs that’s: 9,167 foils, 36,300 non foils, and 367 surge foils [rounded to the nearest up]. If for every surge foil there are 25 foils and 99 non foils, then each surge foil of The Great Henge could cost anywhere between $1,600 and $4,000 [X20-X50 times the regular foil price]. Somehow the sol rings are not the only big price in town. However, we also have the ultra rare “club zone” Great Henge foil borderless, the regular foil, and the stamped foil promo. How many recent “exclusive” versions have we seen of ancient tomb? This doesn’t take into account the draft boosters, set boosters, and all foreign variants. With the amount of products and gimmicks, MTG cannot sustain this for much longer without devaluating. Yes, Wizards/Hasbro have created a new Reserve List, which they won’t even respect on the near future. I agree with the Prof: just buy singles! Why? Apart from being a game, it’s an investment in both your happiness and financial resources. You have the right to expect value for your buck! A gold bordered Ancient Tomb is close to $10 and an old foreign first printing can sometimes cost under $40. Unless you play tournaments or pro, just get the cheapest version! Still not convinced? Tell me otherwise after pulling a Bojuka Bog foil topper! We cannot Wizards printing the same amount of each topper. Plus, if you’d purchase the top 12 regular priced cards of the set already, you’d be $60 plus dollars poorer. I love collecting MTG, but things need to change. Thanks Professor, love what you do.

My day always gets a little bit better when someone mentions Canadian Highlander. I had so much fun drafting artifacts on Vintage Cube once that I bought a Paradox Academy deck. Haven't had the change to play it yet, but it's a fun goldfishing experience. You never know how it's going to go infinite by accident.
At a bare minimum, a card like a box topper should be as useful as the Ravnica duals. Even if it was just a strict reprint of the arts from it's last printing, still better than Bojuka Bog.
Box toppers are NOT reprints. They will not affect market price at all, in fact these are more likely to be more expensive due to the nature of the box topper pool of 30ish cards

I think I might be one of the only people wanting that surge foil bojuka bog, the only foil before was $45 and I've been foiling out my Korvold deck

I think it’s fabulous that all box toppers are foils; however, the numbers are staggering. If we look only at English collector packs, we know that they’ve printed 3,300,000 or 275,000 boxes, as we can deduce this from the 1:3,300,000 chance of pulling The One Ring. I’ve seen those complete case un-boxings online where each case averages about 30 total box toppers per case or 5 per box. That means there are 1,375,000 total box toppers in English collector packs! Breaking that down that’s 275,000 foil toppers, 1,089,000 non foil, and 11,000 surge foils. Hmm… In terms of how many of each of the 30 exist in collector packs that’s: 9,167 foils, 36,300 non foils, and 367 surge foils [rounded to the nearest up]. If for every surge foil there are 25 foils and 99 non foils, then each surge foil of The Great Henge could cost anywhere between $1,600 and $4,000 [X20-X50 times the regular foil price]. Somehow the sol rings are not the only big price in town. However, we also have the ultra rare “club zone” Great Henge foil borderless, the regular foil, and the stamped foil promo. How many recent “exclusive” versions have we seen of ancient tomb? This doesn’t take into account the draft boosters, set boosters, and all foreign variants. With the amount of products and gimmicks, MTG cannot sustain this for much longer without devaluating. Yes, Wizards/Hasbro have created a new Reserve List, which they won’t even respect on the near future. I agree with the Prof: just buy singles! Why? Apart from being a game, it’s an investment in both your happiness and financial resources. You have the right to expect value for your buck! A gold bordered Ancient Tomb is close to $10 and an old foreign first printing can sometimes cost under $40. Unless you play tournaments or pro, just get the cheapest version! Still not convinced? Tell me otherwise after pulling a Bojuka Bog foil topper! We cannot Wizards printing the same amount of each topper. Plus, if you’d purchase the top 12 regular priced cards of the set already, you’d be $60 plus dollars poorer. I love collecting MTG, but things need to change. Thanks Professor, love what you do.

I always love when Professor start talking in a body positive manner before doing the keeps advertisement on his videos. But I feel that what this point o my hair loss there is no Keeps that can help, I will need a hair transplant surgery to stop becoming bald... Can't see myself without hair on. Correct. Only draft boxes, set boxes, and collector boxes come with a box topper. And you can pull them in collector boosters as well

My day always gets a little bit better when someone mentions Canadian Highlander. I had so much fun drafting artifacts on Vintage Cube once that I bought a Paradox Academy deck. Haven't had the change to play it yet, but it's a fun goldfishing experience. You never know how it's going to go infinite by accident.

At a bare minimum, a card like a box topper should be as useful as the Ravnica duals. Even if it was just a strict reprint of the arts from it's last printing, still better than Bojuka Bog.
Box toppers are NOT reprints. They will not affect market price at all, in fact these are more likely to be more expensive due to the nature of the box topper pool of 30ish cards

Would you be opposed to doing more standard content? Surprisingly modern and pioneer are kind of dead at my store but standard and commander are always popping.
