    I absolutely loved the treasure diver...it feels like the bag building game Quacks of Quedl...I would only play him for the first dozen games of Merchant's Cove, I kid you not.
    The game, Merchant's Cove and every player's board offer mini-game like play styles in the overarching big game, which is a cool mechanic...who knows, maybe I'll consider pledging this time :))
    Great Learn to Play Video!!!

      The Treasure Dive is a fascinating character for sure. The one that drew me in the most was the Mushroom Farmer though, seems like a really cool puzzle.

      Ha, you found the easter egg! For some reason ants decided my filming table was a good place to look for food, and I try to flick them away but they have made surprise appearances in probably dozens of my videos.

    Haven't actually played the base game myself, but after learning about it, it seems like just the right kinda game for my playgroup. I totally get people's criticism about it kinda being multiplayer solitaire with small versions of better games, but that's actually kinda the reason I want to get it. A lot of my friends don't want to dig deep into a really complex game, they'd rather learn a lighter version of it. Also, I know a few people who hate playing multiplayer games where people can mess with each other too much (I know it doesn't really make sense, didn't say I'm one of them, but I do know people like that). I think for my group the lighter games, variety, and smaller amount of interaction with the merchant boats will make it a pretty big hit.
    Also, thanks for the well presented explanation of the characters. I watched another video a little while ago and the other person skimmed over things too much and just left me confused. This video actually fully explained each of the characters well.

    Excellent overview as always. A bit surprised with how unintuitive the player boards for the diver seem, hopefully the rulebook does some heavy lifting!

    Great video. I do not understand why they couldn't make a miniature for the mushroom farmer. I would make the huge clunky mushroom farmer tiles small, just the indicated actions needed and add spots to move the chosen action for the miniature on the board. If you look, you can see there is space. Would like to know why they couldn't do it?

      Part of it is most likely that, since a mini isn't really needed for the way that the character plays, it's a good way to save a bit of money in production. I do see a ton of people in the comments on the kickstarter begging for a mini though, so who knows, maybe it'll be added as an add-on later.

    As a professional boardgame player, do you find game complexity and set-up time as generally diminishing your willingness to play and/or enjoyment?
    This game looks like each player requires their own almanac explaining their roles and how to play the game.

      I think this will very much depend on the person. If you already know and enjoy Merchant's Cove then the characters in this expansion won't surprise you with their complexity. If you haven't played it before, then it is certainly possible to feel overwhelming. They do each have their own small fold out manual so you can pass them out to people to give them good references.

      I have personally found out that setup can impact my willingness to play, even if I like the game. I mostly blame the "youtube phenomenon" for this as my brain is getting used to setup already being done from watching playthroughs before I actually setup them...weird phenomenon!

      @@paulvilagos7008 Definitely there with you. I've got a few games that I love, but that I just don't want to spend the time to set up. I even got a small folding table to keep in the room I hang out the most often just to make it easier to setup Marvel Champions because I didn't want to bother lugging everything downstairs in the past. I will say though that games that have good organization tend to get past this for me. Even if it has a decent amount of setup, as long as I don't have to hunt around for things, I generally don't mind too much

      I'm usually the host and I love saving 'together time' by setting up the game beforehand. I can not stand long setups when everyone is already at the table, so yeah games like this are the first game to be played or they won't be chosen. But then this game adds setup time because the characters aren't selected beforehand, so yeah it needs some creativity to save time with that. Of course with this special game someone had to be able to explain all roles, which adds to the barrier. I tend not to have too many of these type games in my collection at all, but man this game is just lovely when everybody is trying to solve their own puzzles at the same time while not being THAT complicated either.

    I have to say that I maintain my criticism of Merchant's Cove from the last video you did. Each player is playing their own disconnected minigame, none of which is individually good enough to be it's own game. I'd rather play one good game than a dozen half-good games.

    Bloody hell, click bait nonsense. Not mentioning this is prototype in the title. This bloke doesn't learn.

    • @PandaOfElastic
      @PandaOfElastic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Literally no board game "how to play" channel does this when using a prototype. They all mention it in the video (as Jon does) since it's usually not relevant to showing the gameplay.

      Well, at least you clicked AND you commented. Both should help this video in the TH-cam algorithm.

      You must be new

    • @ThaGamingMisfit
      @ThaGamingMisfit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How is this clickbait, the game isn't even out yet. Prototypes are the only way to get games explained to you before they are available to everyone. You must be new on the internet.
