The scene when he was in the office and breaking into the safe is my favorite of the series. "If you were in your office, we'd be having this conversation face to face." Click Perfection!
“Do you even know why you’re supposed to kill me? Look at us, look at what they make you give” Chills everytime i watch this movie. Full circle moment for Jason and now he finally understands what that meant. It’s my favorite scene from the entire series.
since you asked about jason bourne vs john wick, here are a few points. the actors who played these characters had extensive training. that training went much further with matt damon in hand to hand, but much further with keanu in weapons training. damon trained in a phillipine martial art called cali which is based on incorporating your surroundings and whatever is realistically available to use as a weapon. bourne's pen to the hand in the first film was 12 years before the pencil story in john wick. since bourne is a cia assasin, and so is denzel's character from the equalizer, and liam neeson's character in taken, ( although the others are more implied than spelled out like the bourne films). the first question is "who would win out of the cia assets"? john wick is a hit-man in an immensely fictional paradigm. secret clubs with gold coin payments and unusual services and policies, i mean, john wick is set far less in the "real world" than the other characters i mentioned. any of them might succeed on any given day against any of the others is the real answer to who would win. i have a strong preference for bourne if we are talking about sequel quality. all of those franchises have a great first movie, and some of the sequels are good too. bourne starts out amazing, and just keeps getting better for 2 more films. and the bourne films came first. they set a standard that hasnt been equaled by the others.
I feel like John Wick's endurance and stamina would win out. Look at the stuff he went though just in the last one. But I get your point. Just depends on the day.
Depends of the scenario. John Wick is an assassin and doesn't matter how much I enjoy Keanu his character doesn't have the counter intelligence training of the rest. He is always jump on while the rest see you coming from afar. Wick knows how to go in, kill the target and go out. If we play different scenarios he has less chances than the rest.
Jen sees Julia Stiles in The Borne Identity says,"Yeah Im not a fan!" Jen sees Julia Stiles about to be merked in The Borne Ultimatum and has a mothers level of worry for Nikki.... love it 😂
The Bourne Supremacy is by far my favorite in the trilogy. What I love the most about it is the fact it made other spy movies in the genre create stories with more realism.
I adore this film. _The Bourne Ultimatum_ is one of the best action films of the 2000s, and maybe of all time for me... I fear that shaky-cam has, perhaps justifiably, gained a bad reputation since these films were released. But, with this and _Supremacy_ before, it has never bothered me in this series. In fact, I believe Paul Greengrass's hyper-energized documentary style lends greatly to the gritty fights. He is by far the best practitioner of this kind of camera work. I highly recommend seeing _Captain Phillips_ for another great case of his methods. I never felt disoriented or confused here in the fights. This is largely due to the edits being timed so as to draw your attention to the small movements and gestures that turn the tide in the moment to moment swings of combat. Couple that with perfectly timed zooms, it puts you in Bourne's head as he quickly discerns how to gain the upper hand. The result is a fun, visceral, and kinetic fight in a dingy bathroom. The story, while fairly minimal, is coolly efficient. We don't need to know the details of what Nikki and Bourne's relationship was before the amnesia, but its allusion makes for a more rich tapestry upon which the action takes place. He has lost so much of who he was, that the only thing left for him is to run to the end. Look at what they made him give... What we were given was a fun ride, a biting look at contemporary paranoia, and a tragedy where a hollow man desperately searches to find his soul. _10/10_
Jen, Your enthusiasm for this series has been peak throughout, you gotta convince Holden to finish the series and watch the rest. You'll get lore on the programs that involve Bourne and get the whole enchilada by the time it's done.
5:53 Omg props to your editor here xD I actually thought in my head when he said “where’s my picture please…” that it would be funny if they put his face on the screen and that’s exactly what happened lol
A lot of people hate on Legacy but I really enjoy that movie. Great Renner and Weiss. I think my least fav one is Jason Bourne just because we waited so long for it and when it was announced I was so excited and it didn’t live up to expectations. Not to say it was bad it just wasn’t AS good as it should have been.
In a shot of Bourne jumping over the roofs in Tangier, Morroco they take a close-up shot of the top of the concrete wall. It is completely lined with broken glass imbedded in the top of the wall. I had never seen this until I was sent to S. Korea in 1968 in response to the hijacking of the USS Pueblo. Local residents had apartments on a common courtyard surrounded by a concrete wall. For security, they also imbedded broken glass in the top of their walls. Something to know before trying to jump a fence/wall in a foreign country.
You guys should add Green Zone to the list as well, from what I remember I think that movie is supposed to be a prequel to these movies. I could be wrong.
I always loved when Jason would say. Get some rest Pam, you look tired. and such things. Myself, the shaky cam doesn't bother me. It adds a deeper feeling of the chaos in the fight scenes.
I showed my buddy the Bourne series for the first time last week, and he showed me John Wick for the first time also. After we were all done we asked the question: If Jasone Bourne, John Wick, James Bond (Craig) and Ethan Hunt were in a room with no guns or fancy weapons, just normal office supplies, who would come out on top in a free-for-all. It was honestly easier than we thought. We both almost immediately agreed that Wick would come out ontop, 2nd would be Bourne, followed by Bond then Hunt. We agreed it came down to Bourne and Wick for hand-to-hand combat, but we gave the edge to Wick seeing as Bourne is technically just acting on instinct since he lost his memories where as Wick is in full control of all his abilities.
In my opinion, Bourne would definitely beat them all. Just because he uses 100% of his brain and adapts to his surroundings. Also he is the most realistic out of all of the other respective characters
The Waterloo train station scene is my favourite from the series, it was my main station when I went into London growing up. Me and my friends loved looking for snipers in the advert banner that was there for years after the bourne series finished 😃
John Wick came out during the Superhero Era, hence the almost video-game-esque (a.k.a. unrealistic) nature of his combat style and the over-the-top plot lines, and while entertaining, would be an apples & oranges comparison with Jason Bourne. That said, Jason Bourne exhibits more tactical intelligence and its clear many tropes from John Wick were taken straight from this series.
I feel like you guys would really like Legacy too. Jeremy Renner is great in it and I just love the close combat fighting he does. Too bad he wasn't used much in Mission Impossible, but in Bourne Legacy he gets to shine.
I would definitely react to The Bourne Legacy. Its a good sequel that goes deeper into the story how the soldiers are modified in physical and intellectual abilities. You also see who is really in charge of the programs. Edward Norton, Jeremy Renner and Rachael Weitz all are great.
Watch the Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz movie "The Bourne Legacy" (2012). It explains what they did to Bourne & all of the other agents & why all the agents have headaches. I'm pretty sure that Jen will really like the ending!
IMO, the first 3 movies are GREAT, minus the cinematography. I didn't notice the problem with it until Supremacy. The 2nd movie. But in general, that kills this series. And other than this series, I've never heard that before, about any movie or series movies. Legacy, is about another character, Aaron Cross. Damen is not in that movie, but it mentions him and shows photos of him. It is a good movie, keeps the action moving but gives new charaters while mentioning the same story as the first 3. Then 5th movie, AMAZING. IMO. Great Post guys.
It's not really just a trilogy. There is more info about Bourne (in number 5). Number 4 is also really good. I would like it if they did another one to follow on from 4. You want to know more about Jason? You have to get to number 5.
The Bourne Legacy is a jewel if a film, particularly if like seeing the workings of the agency as they put out fires that involve the different assets. Lots of good performances from big names as well.
In the Tangier chase scene, Nicky, played by Julia Stiles, and Desh, played by Joey Ansah, are seen pushing past the citizens. These are not extras; Tangier was too crowded and the flow of the people was hard to control, hence the two are genuinely pushing through the crowd.
Please absolutely watch Legacy and JB. The trilogy works on its own, but the other two are fun watches being in the same universe. There’s also a show in the same universe called Treadstone that’s worth watching.
I loved that you went through this beautiful series, that was a fun watchlaong with you two! It would be pretty great if you did the flip-side (kinda) of this and did 1973's Day of the Jackal. Pretty much the 'invention' if not first iteration of the cold, methodical, focused, much less civil assassin, matched alongside with 'actual' old-school detective work.
The shaky cam criticism stems from two issues: 1) it's meant for a big screen. a 50 foot wide one. As such it uses some trickery of the eye/brain functionality - which is your eyesight can only really focus on a tiny postage stamp size region of the visual field (the fovea). Everything else is rather peripheral. As a result the shaking does not bother most people on the big screen, but on a small screen your entire fovea covers the screen. And 2) Holden may have a maladapted brain as to why it bothers him so much and not Jan so much. We move our eyes and heads a remarkable amount in everyday tasks, but the brain smooths this out with complex higher function editing so to speak. Even if you are say driving on a bumpy road and being jostled about, and having to look at a sequence of scans of the dash, the mirrors and the road ahead - the normal brain smooths this jerky motion out in your perceived vision in the brain. But if that function is not really well developed, well this film will bother you. If you ever use a VR headset and record what you see, say in a flight simulator, the video is even shakier than this film, because your eyes and head flit about so damn much, but the person wearing the VR googles did not experience this extreme shaky cam, because of that brain smoothing.
It wasn't a good revolution. Today they use a far smoother version of shaky cam because audiences didn't like it on full tilt. It ruined hand to hand combat scenes because you couldn't truly see all the "moves" they were making.
The shaky cam is emblematic of Paul Greengrass movies. I'm really not a fan of it either. Greengrass uses it far too much. Still, I loved the scene with Desh in Morocco. The running across the rooftops and jumping through that window was so slick.
@nikolatesla5553 It is a cool visual, but it's kinda obvious that thing shattered right before his body hit the "window". I do agree, that fight with Desh was sweet, one of the best fights in the whole Bourne series. Took watching it a cpl times to figure out all the choreography of it.
@@jeffcunningham0389 I'm happy you enjoy it. Unfortunately the far majority don't, at least not to that degree. Most ppl can't understand what's going on with fight scenes like that, even with multiple viewings. I got about 60% - 70% of it in the theater. Once I watched it home a cpl times I understood everything they were doing. Still don't care for it though, prefer a good steady cam that moves and follows action without having to make so many Cuts that it feels like Film by IKEA!
Jason Bourne would obliterate John Wick...people forget that John Wick should have been killed multiple times in the first film, except Plot Armor protected him. Were it not for John's teacher, his enemies would have killed him on multiple occasions...but John was saved. Jason Bourne doesn't need saving this entire series, Jason Bourne isn't fighting a criminal organization but rather he's fighting other super assassins built just like him and he's dispatching all of them with extreme ease.
Yea, No. john wick defeats him easily. John wick literally beat all the best assassins in the world in had to hand combat. Like what are u talking about?
@jeffcunningham0389 regular assassins, not super soldier serum assassins trained to be the ultimate infiltrators in every single way. John Wick is a t800 from Terminator, Jason Bourne is the t1000 from Judgment Day. You saying John Wick faces the best assassins is comparable to what Jason Bourne is facing, that's like saying Hulk is better than Thanos even after getting that 2-piece fade by Thanos and Thanos running the whole of the Avengers.
@ um common from part 2 was a super assasin, almost equal to john wick, the main villain and his 2 henchmen in part 3 were all super assassins. Any of them would also kill jason bourne
@@jeffcunningham0389 none of them are actual super assassins, they are elite assassins for what they do...but Jason Bourne and the other assets from the Black Ops projects in his verse are actual Super Soldiers...they have been enhanced. They run faster, they run longer, they shoot better, they analyze more effectively, they are stronger. You're calling Batman or Green Arrow a super soldier even though they are only trained to peak human condition, while actual super soldiers exist in Captain America, Black Panther, Green Goblin, Spider-Man. There's a difference between being elite at your craft and being a super. John Wick and the assassins of his verse are elite at their craft, but they are not enhanced...Jason Bourne and the assets of his verse are enhanced beyond human capabilities.
@ dude stop it. Jason bourne is based on real world logic and real world strength. John Wick is based on a fantasy world and otherworldly feats. On no planet does bourne win.
I highly recommend watching the other 2 bourne films they are both great legacy actually takes place during ultimatum they roughly run parallel to each other
They actually backed off on the shaky cam in this one, it's not as bad as number 2. This is my favorite installment of the series. I think they streamlined and refined the formula in the best way.
Personally, I find the Jeremy Renner Bourne Legacy to be more enjoyable than Jason Bourne. Something about the final movie didn't sit quite as well as the original trilogy. They're both decent though!
I think the fight scenes in the Bourne series is the only time the quick cut style has ever been done right, with the exception of Supremacy. That one went a little too far but the rest are done more tasteful in my opinion. It's supposed to give you the feel that you're in the same room, so it's chaotic but you can still catch what's happening.
I think you guys should definitely watch the next 2 movies. You get more behind the scenes about the CIA programs and even more backstory on Jason Bourne. Jeremy Renner does a great job in Legacy and you get more inside information about what life as one of the agents is like. All good stuff.
I’ve been eagerly waiting for the reaction video to the Bourne ultimatum to almost conclude. I really really really hope you watch Jason Bourne (2016). If it’s a big ask, it would be worth skipping Legacy as that really doesn’t build any story around Jason Bourne. Absolute legends the pair of you! Much love ❤
I can't recall if you have reacted to this movie or not but I HIGHLY recommend reacting to Sneakers (1992). It's not as frantic and hectic as the Bourne movies, but it's a great entry into the spy/espionage genre. It's dramatic, suspenseful, and quite funny too. It's got a great ensemble cast as well.
The Bourne Legacy is actually a good movie. Worth watching as a Bourne related film. The Jason Bourne movie, the last one, I found wasn't worth my time and made odd choices. 👍
Please consider watching/reacting to 'Jason Bourne' (2016). Jen's curiosity about 'Nicki' will be answered a bit more, (and it's a fun ride against Tommy Lee Jones!)
Do as you please with Legacy but you should definitely watch Jason Bourne. Legacy has a different cast and runs parallel with the end of Supremacy and all of Ultimatum. Jason Bourne, on the other hand, is set a number of years after Ultimatum and brings back some familiar faces, a must watch in my opinion. And I just really love Alicia Vikander ;) Must be the proud Swede in me Thanks for a great time, and for sharing your awesome :*
Phones are a big problem for movies producers. They instantly date a movie. Whenever someone sees The Matrix for the first time they notice the old phone immediately.
Not only the type of phone, but even mobile phones at all. Read a Hardy Boys book to my kid and those stories play out very differently if you consider mobile phones and internet. The original Bourne Identity book was written before all of this technology. In the same vein, I had to laugh while watching Robocop and seeing the old-school stenographer in the board meeting in that futuristic world.
@@SkunksterPlaysPoorly Yeah. A few years ago they did a trilogy of movies for Ayn Rand's _Atlas Shrugged_ a story originally set in the 1950s. But the movies set the story in modern times or even near future and it just doesn't work. High speed rail is no longer revolutionary. And the ability for "pirates" to seize ships at sea is offset by the existence of modern jet fighter planes. Instant communications also makes much of the plot unworkable.
Please watch Legacy...sure it may not be on this level, but it's still solid and it's fun to stay in this universe. I'd be curious to hear/see your thoughts on comparing the two stories.
Book Fan here: Out of the multiple personalities inside of Jason (David and Jason arent the only ones).........i am personally a fan of his "Delta" personality. Delta is just pure killer, way more dangerous then Jason. Jason is smart, calculating, lethal, decisive. And David is intelligent, caring, empathetic, and more human.... But Delta is death incarnate. A bit insane/psychotic, but just able to kill anything put in front of him. The books take place in like the 80's, so Jason is a Vietnam Vet.....and Delta was his persona made in his Special Forces Days. He was similar to Rambo.....mtasked to go deep behind enemy lines and purely dispose of enemy personnel.....just kill and kill a lot.
Her smile at the end is the best part of the movie.

He's definitely smooth brained
Holden and the shaky cam is hilarious. I remember when these came out it revolutionized the way you film action movies.
It wasn't a good revolution. Today they use a far smoother version of shaky cam because audiences didn't like it on full tilt. It ruined hand to hand combat scenes because you couldn't truly see all the "moves" they were making.
@@thebkg disagree. They did shaky cam the right way. Its the copycat movies that did it wrong. I never had issues seeing the action
If Holden hasn't seen The Recruit, definitely react to it.
Jen I would recommend watching the latest 'Jason Bourne' film, it will answer alot of your questions and is one of the best in the series.
I highly recommend watching the other 2 bourne films they are both great legacy actually takes place during ultimatum they roughly run parallel to each other
Wait. There’s a fifth??
@@EliasuSan there is five and also a tv show in the same universe
the googley eyes on the train station make me almost choke on my potatoes ! A+ edit :P love it
She mentioned The Recruit. That was good, y'all should put that up!
30:54 such a lovely callback.
I recommend Legacy. IMO, Jeremy Renner does a decent job carrying on the tradition.
Legacy is vital to the whole franchise. It reveals information that ties up the whole story.
That’s the one with Renner?
Shame it goes sci-fi and ruins Ultimatum ending.
Hopefully you guys react to
The Recruit
PG-13 2003 ‧ Thriller/Action ‧ 1h 55m
Bourne Legacy, I left the theaters feeling indifferent. But each time I've watched it, I love it more.
You should really watch the other 2 movies. You cant just leave them out as Movie Fans. Theyre both entertaining! Dew it! 😂
Much love ❤
I think you guys would like watching the borne legacy. Jeremy Renner plays a pretty sweet “Borne” like super spy/assassin.
I Never realized they cameout with another bourn movie after legacy
Burst into laughter with those cut ins Holden 😂
The Bourne Legacy is actually a good movie. Worth watching as a Bourne related film. The Jason Bourne movie, the last one, I found wasn't worth my time and made odd choices. 👍
Please consider watching/reacting to 'Jason Bourne' (2016). Jen's curiosity about 'Nicki' will be answered a bit more, (and it's a fun ride against Tommy Lee Jones!)
Oh my gosh, yes! Make Holden watch the Recruit!!! @26:56
And I just really love Alicia Vikander ;) Must be the proud Swede in me
Thanks for a great time, and for sharing your awesome :*
dont forget the tv show
Phones are a big problem for movies producers.
29:54 glad to know I’m not the only one who puts two and two together.
Jason Bourne reminds me of Jack Bauer from the tv series 24.
Holden underwater sent me 😂
Please watch Legacy...sure it may not be on this level, but it's still solid and it's fun to stay in this universe. I'd be curious to hear/see your thoughts on comparing the two stories.
nope, its blah
Luv the reaction and for me Legacy was not that great but i liked the last one Jason Borne.
They should watch Shooter if they like espionage
