Dream Theater covering Pantera's Cemetery Gates featuring Russell Allen of Symphony X, Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory and Dave Mustaine of Megadeth... Enjoy!
John is obviously great...he's jesus. All these guys are awesome apart the wtf solo of mustain( if you guys don't know richard benson, you have to search him and then you will understand) and the labrie's performance.James, in DT you sound good ( don't care about live) but Phil Anselmo is a fucking god. Nobody can sing like him. He's simply one the best metal singer of all time.
With this cover, some of us can conclude that in history, from time to time, unique and unrepeatable expressions appear, which can not be replicated. This attempt to interpret a song of this category, even by musicians of this stature, shows us that Pantera is the cuspid of metal.
Funny how Dave writes incredible guitar solos and rhythm parts. Seriously how the fuck did he conceive Good Mourning/Black Friday or Looking Down the Cross and then play this?
It is some kind of a computer where he can see the music and he doesn't have to "turn the pages". It shows the music to him and he can check all the options of his keyboard.
mustaine wasn't supposed to do the solo, but another guy. it was an emergency, mustaine did'nt knew that he was going to do the solo till the last minute.
James finally woke up when almighty Russell walked onstage (2:23). Must have realized he only had 10 seconds left before getting completly owned. Too bad it took him so long...
@walshy0001 well yes... JP is the best guitar player in the world but Zack Wylde was dimebag's best friend and this is dime's song so it would be nice to see zack performing this solo.
I wish the vocals had that sense of anguish that Phil's does. Looks like they instead tried to make sure they hit all the notes perfectly instead. I love whoever sang the 2nd chorus though. he put some good grit in there and even flubbed around with the melody a bit to add a "rough" texture to it. Can't lie though we know we all love hearing those last notes sang vs teh guitar battle. And yes.....does anyone have a clue what Mustaine was playing? lol weird
Who the hell let burton in? He was a massive misfit in the song. And mustaine did well. It looked like he got out there, went "OH FUCK HOW THE FUCK DOES THIS GO" and decided to melt some faces instead
see? even 2 two guitars and a keyboard cant even do the solos and the squeels right. plus, pantera just uses one great legend to play that solo. no space for extras like those guys! Pantera Rules!!
That fuqn awesome!!! Like a elite jam session to one of the baddest songs ever made. Would have been tits if pet would have done a dual solo with Dave. (Cutting heads style)
i say dave didnt fuck up the solo, he did perfectly! only the part when he was coming in lol it didnt fuck it up tho... dave showed everyone up with his mad skills tho ;]
idk why everybody gives Mustaine so much shit about the solo. in that situation you can either try and play it the exact way Dimebag did or you can do your own thing and Mustaine ran a tremelo train all over it, if you dont like it go listen to Pantera, i dont see what the big deal is
no it doesn't.. bet you haven't even been to a dream theater concert to hear his voice.. i have.. and i can tell you that his voice is perfect live.. though i can agree that allen's voice is incredible aswell!
Labrie did well on soft parts as his voice is more tender. At the end he screwed the first two screams, but in 6:45 he was really impressive, I thought Allen could have done this part instead.
The thing with dave is he writes great riffs and hes a solid frontman but he really can't solo very well. You can ALWAYS tell which solos were Chris Poland's or Marty Friedman's and which were Daves...the former always had better phrasing and technique.
LOL, i'm reading all this bashing on dave, thinking these guys are assholes, It can't be that bad.............. Then the solo hit me and WOW he really did fuck that up........ I'm just gonna drink this tooth and forget that ever happened.....
fucking amazing cover. petrucci does amazing job at imitating dime's sound, i thought no one could sound like dimebag.. guess i was wrong.. its just a shame that mustaine fucked up the solo.. he doesnt do that kinda thing often.. wonder what happened.. o well
@stavrosmaiden This comment is a joke...right? Do you think Dave played the first2 solos on holy wars? Only the last solo is Dave.. that's what I call guitar lessons ..lesson 1.
@Joselo1693 come on dude....yeah Dave did pretty bad, but you'd rather hear Zakk Wylde play the solo than John Petrucci? was that a fucking joke? John is UNDENIABLY the superior guitarist of the three by far
at the end of the video it says darrell williams. wtf? where does the williams come from? i thought it was darrell lance abbott and why do he and vinnie paul have different last names? Lol im gonna look that up...
what i have to say about dave's solo it sounded like he went out of key at the end but i think he tried to make it his own to fit his style and i think he did a pretty damn good job (besides the end)
I Loved Dimebag as we all did!!! but Dreamtheater & Russell Allen kicked ass as always, Burton C Bell's vocals did suck a bit and as for Mustaine's solo well? but a fitting tribute to Pantera & Dimebag RIP
Sorry, your excellent English just blew my mind. Use some more "fucks", "ADIS" and "asses", it will make your comment even more enjoyable. Gotta love this guy!
The intro up until the full band starts is beautiful. And for some reason, the piano us very fitting for such an iconic riff. Once the band starts it went to shit. Mustaine sounds like he didnt even have his fingers on the fret board WTF MANG? Again tbe intro is the best part, vocals suck totally. No one can sing like Phil did then.
Russell Allen didn't ruin the song. His voice fit the song more than many people give him credit for. I love how his singing has turned more aggressive.
Should've let John handle ALL of the guitar work.
Nah. Mustaine did an awesome job too
With this cover, some of us can conclude that in history, from time to time, unique and unrepeatable expressions appear, which can not be replicated.
This attempt to interpret a song of this category, even by musicians of this stature, shows us that Pantera is the cuspid of metal.
No one can sing like Phil. That's a fact!
Funny how Dave writes incredible guitar solos and rhythm parts. Seriously how the fuck did he conceive Good Mourning/Black Friday or Looking Down the Cross and then play this?
5:08 is why you're probably here.
You're welcome.
Russell Allen has a powerful voice, and James Labrie...a voice for love songs!!!Wicked voice, however!
I 'kin love Mustaine and Pantera!!!!!!
Perfect
Thisiz FuknAwesome !!!
Rusell Allen it´s too much for them, this it´s not fair
1:50 -- "The root of all evil has been running my whole life."
What the fuck?
What the fuck were you talking about?
dave said this was one his most cherished moments on gigantour i can imagine why.
The beginning of the song is incredible!!! Love it!
Someone should explain key to Mustaine... Petrucci nailed his solos.
Russel Allen's vocals rules. LaBrie was totally pwned.
The best performance in my opinion is from Russel!!!
Kick ass Singer!!!
russell and jemes...the best
It is some kind of a computer where he can see the music and he doesn't have to "turn the pages". It shows the music to him and he can check all the options of his keyboard.
That was like Hi i'am Dave Mustaine
LaBrie is goddamn awesome lol. Woo!!
Agree 100% !...
mustaine killed the solo
Spoken like a true fan of the music!! Thank you :)
he truly is ..
mustaine wasn't supposed to do the solo, but another guy. it was an emergency, mustaine did'nt knew that he was going to do the solo till the last minute.
@mivic86 I agree, but it was a matter of who did less worse, instead of better.
Lo mejor en cover, grandes musicos
no... it didn't really sound like he was playing in a key.....
Lmao mustane should have left the shredding to the petrucc
great video
petrucci and rusell allen THE BEST
James finally woke up when almighty Russell walked onstage (2:23). Must have realized he only had 10 seconds left before getting completly owned. Too bad it took him so long...
The lulz is strong with this one. Yup 8 years later.
@walshy0001 well yes... JP is the best guitar player in the world but Zack Wylde was dimebag's best friend and this is dime's song so it would be nice to see zack performing this solo.
el solo de mustaine es una fruta barbara
4:25 THATS ME!!! OMG
Thats right, Petrucci played his own part almost perfectly, and dave's wasn't even close. It's little unrespectful for dimebag maybe...
i dont agree... both are good vocals and labries soft sound + petruccis guitar tone goes really good with the clean parts of this song
what was Jordan R. doing there? is he playing or smiling.... I love russel allen! great! RIP DIMEBAG - miss you!
Who the hell let burton in? He was a massive misfit in the song. And mustaine did well. It looked like he got out there, went "OH FUCK HOW THE FUCK DOES THIS GO" and decided to melt some faces instead
does anybody have faund the video of
song of Archetype on this gigantour?
see? even 2 two guitars and a keyboard cant even do the solos and the squeels right. plus, pantera just uses one great legend to play that solo. no space for extras like those guys! Pantera Rules!!
man what a fuckin great cover. the guitar sounds just like dimebag!
R.I.P. dimebag
Wow... mustaine was definitely not in the zone that night
The solo should have been left to Petrucci for sure.
i agree but this was like, right after mustaine had to re learn to play guitar due to his accident
Dave just thought he was playing hangar 18 solo hahah
It s not Williams! And the year is also wrong.... Mustaines falsetto notes(maybe its not even falsetto) are awesome...
Dave what have you done??
somebody please teach dave some guitar
@Joselo1693
oook now I see where your coming from....and yes JP is a hell of a player, but I would never say best in the world...
95% of his solo was without any musical mode. He just fucked up on of the greatest metal solo ever from one of the best guitarist ever.
Respect for DT, but the only reason why I usually watch this video is Allen's performance...
SX 4 LIFE
That's quite an understatement. lol
When ur so excited to hear the guitar solo..but dave ruined it..
Bye.
Hahaha
Holy shit , mustaine just came out of nowhere, wtf
Mustaine the fail oh dear god :O! Other than that I enjoyed this cover
idk why everybody gives Mustaine so much shit about the solo. in that situation you can either
try and play it the exact way Dimebag did or you can do your own thing and Mustaine ran a tremelo train all over it, if you dont like it go listen to Pantera, i dont see what the big deal is
Dave n' Petrucci Needs read TABS by Cemetery Gates! R.I.P. Darrell!
@kristreyes lol true. Guess that proves that Dime is truly irreplaceable.
No it just proves Dave is damn sloppy. Dime is irreplaceable but this isn't the proof lol
@Justasssu 10 minutes of practice after he heard he had to do the solo. You try playing that thing with 10 mins of practice and then going on stage.
I'm sorry but you can't say that Dave Mustaine is a bad guitarist. And you can't dis Dream Theater. Dream Theater is just too awesome.
no it doesn't.. bet you haven't even been to a dream theater concert to hear his voice.. i have.. and i can tell you that his voice is perfect live.. though i can agree that allen's voice is incredible aswell!
Labrie did well on soft parts as his voice is more tender. At the end he screwed the first two screams, but in 6:45 he was really impressive, I thought Allen could have done this part instead.
@CentiZen And Russel Allen should have sang the entire song!
this song was good idk wat u guys were talkin about. i mean dave solo wasnt the cleanest of tuones but he surely didnt fuck it up
The thing with dave is he writes great riffs and hes a solid frontman but he really can't solo very well.
Russell Allen was the only singer in this video IMO.
mustaine had the heavy metal in the blood...
Right THERE is the main difference between Symphony X and Dream Theater in my opinion:
Russel Allen Kicks ASS!!!!!
LaBrie does not.
fucking amazing cover. petrucci does amazing job at imitating dime's sound, i thought no one could sound like dimebag.. guess i was wrong.. its just a shame that mustaine fucked up the solo.. he doesnt do that kinda thing often.. wonder what happened.. o well
I'd like to see Zack Wylde There playing the solo instead of DAve Mustaine and John PEtrucci... Any way it is not so bad... RIP Dimebag DArrel ....
@stavrosmaiden This comment is a joke...right? Do you think Dave played the first2 solos on holy wars? Only the last solo is Dave.. that's what I call guitar lessons ..lesson 1.
Shoulda just left it up to Pettruci...more than a match for the solo
@Joselo1693
come on dude....yeah Dave did pretty bad, but you'd rather hear Zakk Wylde play the solo than John Petrucci? was that a fucking joke? John is UNDENIABLY the superior guitarist of the three by far
at the end of the video it says darrell williams. wtf? where does the williams come from? i thought it was darrell lance abbott
and why do he and vinnie paul have different last names? Lol
im gonna look that up...
apparently everyone in the comments is a critic and perfect at life. Pfft listen to me thinking everyone is human.
what i have to say about dave's solo it sounded like he went out of key at the end but i think he tried to make it his own to fit his style and i think he did a pretty damn good job (besides the end)
Mustaine didn't know he had to do the solo so he improvised quite a bit. Hes better at rhythm
Gotta love this guy!
yeh vey cuda gt a guest just to do the vocals, completely not just bits, lmfao
The intro up until the full band starts is beautiful. And for some reason, the piano us very fitting for such an iconic riff. Once the band starts it went to shit. Mustaine sounds like he didnt even have his fingers on the fret board WTF MANG? Again tbe intro is the best part, vocals suck totally. No one can sing like Phil did then.
Burton C Bell didnt impress me either, like someone already said russell allen was way better than the others
sounded like the old live metallica dave solos
Genius, sir. How long did it take you to come up with that one?
i reckon, but dave improvises live even with megadeth songs
I think Russell is a hell of a vocalist. I was shocked.
Lol best cover ever, of course it had to be DT
Its a freakin' cover people, it suppose to be similar to the original not EXACTLY like the original!!!
Haha, i dont know what is it, but i know that he is one of the best synt player in the world!
Was Mustaine even playing in the right key?
Increiblemente Mustaine no ha podido aprender NADA del maestro Friedman....
Dave Mustain f**s up the song..jjajajaja!
Russell Allen didn't ruin the song. His voice fit the song more than many people give him credit for.
I love how his singing has turned more aggressive.
i think portnoy and petrucci are the only ones who played it right.
