1986 Zanussi West Cork International Rally

Action from the 1986 West Cork International Rally. Originally broadcast on RTE, with commentary from Alan 'Plum' Tyndall. Converted from VHS TV recording. There are a few video frame skips in this footage, and the very start of the report was missing on the original tape. But it's still a worthy chronicle of a big win for Frank Meagher in his Escort Mk2.

Frank Meagher..Showed up so many Rally Drivers when he got that Escort RS 1800...he hammer AJ Keating on that one in an ex works Manta 400 only 3 years old...he was best of the Rest after Coleman and Mchale that time in a 10 year old car that Car was Homologated in 1975👏.@paddy Sullivan VHS 📼1990s

Although i believe Frank (RIP) was as good as Colman and Mchale. But i could only wonder and unfortunately imagine if he had the sponsorship and financial capabilities of the other two early on in his carrier, and the opportunity to cover competitive stage miles as to bring his natural feel and knowledge of stages to subconscious 10/10th.I believe he would've on aother level.

I was at an NEC Classic Car exhibition a few years ago, and I overheard someone sounding absolutely baffled at the fact that a genuine works Escort was worth more than his beloved Ferrari. I just laughed to myself!
