Below is a brief guide outlining the proper and secure method for disposing of a gas strut.
1. Put on appropriate protective gear to safeguard yourself such as gloves and eye protection.
2. Secure the gas strut in a vertical position, with the piston rod facing downward and fully extended. Use a Vice to secure the Gas Strut in place.
3. Using a 3mm drill bit, drill a hole 20mm from the tube end. In the process, Nitrogen gas will be released. Nitrogen, an inert gas, poses no risk of explosion or toxicity.
4. If necessary, drain the oil through the drilled hole by repeatedly pressing in and pulling out the piston rod through the drilled holes. Dispose of the waste oil following local regulations for recycling.
5. Finally, take the gas strut to a metal recycling centre, adhering to the specific guidelines and regulations set forth in your locality.
