I played this peace a few months ago. For me it was very difficult to play the octaves and accords with the right hand in the middle. Is this a problem for you, too? And do you have any tips for this problem? My hand has often hurted after doing this.

I'm a jazz pianist, i do a decent amount of work around my area. I used do alot of "classical playing" and went through all the conservatory through out my years. But now I feel like I've lost my interest in practicing and working on my craft. These performances and your rehearsal videos have shined a light on something that i'm missing. Thank's for sharing all aspects of your Art. I hope that ill see you perform live one day. All the best!

Another outstanding effect of the channel. Have you checked out Aimee Nolte's channel? She's a jazz pianist who does some very interesting discussions and performances on her channel, along with the occasional live session. You might like what she does, idk.

@@ibuprofen303 no no no not at all. the notes that add subtle sounds of sorrow are just dismissed if you rush the piece . The high notes are suppose to hang in the air like a morning sun. All adding up to the despondent deep tone of depression and sadness, but then... that glimmer of light, the reason you keep living, despite the suffering in this world.

@@jameseddleman6944 I think maybe with not so much extreme rubato, perhaps. It needs to keep time slightly more, if played slower. Not metronomically, obviously, but this is not Rachmaninov

@@mythun6735 No offence but your recording on TH-cam is full of mistakes and much more practice and improvement required before you can even begin to say that you can play it ''MODERATELY'' well. Certainly NO comparison to this fine performance by Tiffany Poon. Lets face it, she is in a completely different league to you.

    • @mythun6735
      @mythun6735 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

@lovemetu Uh, I never said I was anywhere near as good as Tiffany. I'm well aware it's not perfect, and that recording wasn't meant to be a demonstration of me playing the piece to the best of my ability -- it was my third time playing in front of people in my 2.5 years of playing and I made a lot of mistakes due to pressure and anxiety.
I can say I can play the piece fairly well, regardless of that recording. My professor is in agreement. Not sure what made you feel like you needed to comment this, I was just asking what system it was in Grade 9 as. Chill out.

So few get this prelude right in my opinion .Tiffany Poon does.
Some play it like a jolly romp. Others play it far too slow.
The story behind it is key: Chopin wrote it whilst on a Spanish island thinking he was dying. (he recovered and returned home). Rain was falling and he was picturing him in his coffin with rain falling on him.
So it's supposed to be sombre deep and reflecting on one's life abd mortality . But it has to maintain a rhythm of rain falling.
Only 1 other I think has nailed this (deliberate pun) : the player is Madeline somebody (forgot surname). it's played on a Great Courses lecture on best ever piano pieces.
Beautifully played Tiffany Poon. Many have talent but few interpret pieces intelligently.

I'm very partial to this piece. Did you, or have you ever sat in the shelter in the out of doors during; a constant rain, to where it's only you sitting in the shelter as the rain pours down outside? One begins to notice little things you haven't noticed before. Leaves in puddles of water. Insects begin to find a place to hide so they can keep dry. Even the birds sort of quiet down a bit. Then a drop in temperature as the rain still falls cooling the air. I think what Chopin saw within his own need when writing this piece of music, is that still placed within the mind's eye of a person's composure, that must meet with and be entertained by one of the facets of nature. The act of it just plain raining is one of those fields of nature entertaining us. You capture this feeling oh so well in your playing Tiffaney. Thank you so very much.

Prelude, Op. 28, No. 15 (Chopin)
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prelude,_Op._28,_No._15_(Chopin)
The Prelude Op. 28, No. 15, by Frédéric Chopin, known as the "Raindrop" prelude, is one of the 24 Chopin preludes. Usually lasting between five and seven minutes, this is the longest of the preludes. The prelude is noted for its repeating A♭, which appears throughout the piece and sounds like raindrops to many listeners
Some, though not all, of Op. 28 was written during Chopin and George Sand's stay at a monastery in Valldemossa, Majorca in 1838.[ In her Histoire de ma vie, Sand related how one evening she and her son Maurice, returning from Palma in a terrible rainstorm, found a distraught Chopin who exclaimed, "Ah! I knew well that you were dead." While playing his piano he had a dream:

He saw himself drowned in a lake. Heavy drops of icy water fell in a regular rhythm on his breast, and when I made him listen to the sound of the drops of water indeed falling in rhythm on the roof, he denied having heard it. He was even angry that I should interpret this in terms of imitative sounds. He protested with all his might - and he was right to - against the childishness of such aural imitations. His genius was filled with the mysterious sounds of nature, but transformed into sublime equivalents in musical thought, and not through slavish imitation of the actual external sounds.]
Sand did not say which prelude Chopin played for her on that occasion, but most music critics assume it to be no. 15, because of the repeating A♭, with its suggestion of the "gentle patter" of rain. However, Peter Dayan points out that Sand accepted Chopin's protests that the prelude was not an imitation of the sound of raindrops, but a translation of nature's harmonies within Chopin's "génie". Frederick Niecks says that the prelude "rises before one's mind the cloistered court of the monastery of Valldemossa, and a procession of monks chanting lugubrious prayers, and carrying in the dark hours of night their departed brother to his last resting-place."

Thanks for adding this comment, so interesting to read the history of how this very pleasant music came about to be composed.

Very nicely done. One of my favorite pieces, due to it's depth and its romantic intonement.
