Sulfuric acid protonates the hydroxide groups on the sucrose molecules, creating a positively charged water group which is an excellent leaving group. As the hydroxide is protonated, an Oxygen-Hydrogen bond is formed, and the formation of this bond has a negative enthalpy value, meaning the reaction is exothermic and gives off heat.
Not for me it didnt but I know why.. I think I need to get some better stuff I just tried it with old battery acid😅 which is sulfuric acid but it's potentially diluted to the point of it being essentially water😅 dunno lol
I remember watching this in class in 6th grade and a boy said "that look like mines" and my teacher acted like a savage and said " your will never get that long"😂😂🍌🍆
"MacGyver how are gonna stop this sulfuric acid spill?" -Random citizen in need "Get about 20 candy bars, then put the bars against the spill's edge. The chemical reaction will turn the two into carbon and contain the spill" - MacGyver "What? That's boringly scientific!"- Same citizen in need
I really don't see why not. Even if not all of the sulfur dioxide and water exited the carbon, they shouldn't prohibit it from burning like regular coal. Not that it is an economic way to make fuel, though.
I have a question. If that's what happens when you pour sulfuric acid on sugar, what would happen if it is poured on something that has sugar (like candy or some pastries)? Would it make the same reaction?
Is this safe in a classroom setting? Given that it's a designated laboratory where gloves, aprons, and goggles are available. Will the smoke cause damage when breathed in? Because in the class, we use "dangerous" substances, like hydrochloric acid (diluted to only 1 molar) and others that cause harm upon ingestion/skin contact but not when breathed in. Will the gas from the reaction be unsafe to breathe? Thanks.
You might wanna go see a head doctor cause it looks like no one is home if you're using acids without a freaking mask on. Freaking doctors masks are cheep af. Don't need to be a damn gas mask.
which substance was used by you after suger is it also suger. i want to know that why it happens amd is it possible with another substances like salt, soda etc.
Hello there, I have a few questions: 1. If you got carbon as a product, how could you also get sulfur-dioxide? (C12H22O11+11H2SO4->12C+11H20+water-acid mixture) 2. How can we know when we get carbon and when carbon-dioxide? 3. What would happen if you had used non-concentrated sulfuric acid?
My dad made his sister do this as she is a teacher, forgot to tell her it was exothermic, and produces gases, she almost killed an entire class full of kids and luckily didn’t loose her job.
3:25, just asking this out of morbid curiosity, but am I right to assume that the same thing would happen to a marshmallow if exposed to sulfuric acid? (Not that I would even WANT to try that! 😑)
Is that sulfuric acid and sugar in you pocket or you just exited to see me
good pick up line XD
Smart. And very dirty. 😂
🤣🤣
"Home Science" TH-cam channel warns viewers, "Don't try this at home!"
+Oliver Darcy Just because you CAN do something at home doesn't mean you SHOULD.
+GIRGHGH Aka Girg +1
Isn't sulfur harmful?

Then you add water and you get Coka Cola :D
Sasquatch Caca Cola !
Xeros coca cola lmfao
lmao
you don't need sulfuric acid
………….…...you only need sugar, baking soda, and lighter fluid
………….……...maybe sand underneath it
Wow big brain
Bruh at the end it started to look like a beating heart, they lowkey summoned a demon
well the SO2 gas produced would certainly be an issue
Except it won't be produced . Only carbon and water will be
You are generating a lot of SO2, which will make you cough alot
lol what are you doing here :D
oww so that's why
SO2?
I'd really want to see this on a sphere of sugar in zero G
I do not regret having the idea of searching this up. I'm rather pleased.
Congratulation: you've summoned Satan!
I’m gonna show this to my friends and say this is what happens when you eat butter and sugar
I remember being in 8th grade and our science teacher showing us this. I’ll never forget that awful smell, but it was so awesome
Bruh it was toxic SO2💀
@@yarik3000 now I have 11 toes
In 8th grade? Isn't SO2 toxic?
Our teacher showed this video during online chemistry class as an introduction to acids and bases. What a creepy but cool video :O
That's what happens to your teeth when you drink coke

2:31: "oh hey there! Wanna put me into some coffee?" 4:10: "I AM GOING TO BE THE END OF ALL OF YOU"
it looks like mud cake but on steroids
XD
lmfao ded
I think I'll go take a nice dump now after watching this
It becomes longer, harder, bigger, and juicier as it grows. No puns intended
I know what you meant.
But how does it become juicier, if it becomes Harder? You're not too bright are you?! 🤣😆
I remember watching this in class in 6th grade and a boy said "that look like mines" and my teacher acted like a savage and said " your will never get that long"😂😂🍌🍆
Hooligans for life your teacher is a savage
I will never look at oreos the same way again
When I first saw this experiment done at school, I had Carl Orff's O Fortuna play in my head when the carbon started rising out of the mixture. XD
I am not able to.get as much expansion like you did. Sometimes it won't even start even though I stir it. Any tips?
That was awesome thank you so much for this video it really helped with my science homework:-)

Anybody know the music used in this video? The first song's pretty sensual.
The first Science Experiment is soo satisfying

Which is the black coloured one ?? Carbon!?
This is how aliens make buildings
Don't put that cube of sugar in your tea
😂
why does that black thing (carbon) rise? Why doesn't it stay in the beaker
because its expanding
Because of mass it's surprising that you didn't know that
Had no clue that you could summon up the depths of hell with science.
Nicely presented thanks for sharing

You are really good at this work but I want to learn more example "It is canceroghen" or " It is too hot." etc.
What can you do with the carbon that's left?
You can make artificial diamonds with that really search on Google
Good sharing
The reaction and the music makes it look like the sugar is practicing dark magic 🖤
that second one at the end, looked like a beating dragon heart...
Question...
Could that carbon be burned as a fuel source?
I really don't see why not. Even if not all of the sulfur dioxide and water exited the carbon, they shouldn't prohibit it from burning like regular coal. Not that it is an economic way to make fuel, though.

Yupp similar if candy don't has something else for h2so4 (sulphuric acid )

Cool science experiment!
will this work with a lower concentrate of sulfuric acid like whats found in battery solutions?
Me: Look tasty, I want to eat it.
Also me: NOOOOOOOOO
you must have cavities
and that's how you make scientific briquettes! :D

I did it in my school lab, it worked just fine. Make sure to wear a mask because sulphur dioxide is released in this reaction.
Do I need to worry if I barely accidentally breathed some of the fumes in?
You might wanna go see a head doctor cause it looks like no one is home if you're using acids without a freaking mask on.

holy smokes that is so freaking crazy! 😯
H2SO4 sucks out all the water leaving carbon
Thats scary!
The Rise Of Sugar
+Gabriella Papavero what
the rise of a c*ck made out of sugar xd
so is that pure carbon? that might be useful
COOL! bytheway is that smoke dangerous?
can I do these experiment at school for science Expo
is h2so4 contentated or is it regular?

Mozes li napisati jednacinu reakcije?
which substance was used by you after suger is it also suger. i want to know that why it happens amd is it possible with another substances like salt, soda etc.
what percentage is the sulfuric acid
I actually just did it with 85% and you had to wait about 45 seconds and then it worked.
:D
(The second one) ah yes, finally a true representation of my soul.
can we make active carbon with that way ?
Hello there, I have a few questions:
1. If you got carbon as a product, how could you also get sulfur-dioxide? (C12H22O11+11H2SO4->12C+11H20+water-acid mixture)
2. How can we know when we get carbon and when carbon-dioxide?
3. What would happen if you had used non-concentrated sulfuric acid?
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Yeah exactly
Here is what Wikipedia says is the reaction: C12H22O11 (s) + H2SO4 (aq) + 1/2 O2 (g) → 11 C (s) + CO2 (g) + 12 H2O (g) + SO2 (g)
COOL
Looks like a good meal for my tummy.
Is this effects done in our stomach ?
you should have used for the first try the music which plays in cartoons when a snake comes out of something because of a flute sound
Nintendoloverin pin whistle
Do you have a academic refference for this experiment?
Well, this has to be the shittiest microwave brownie recipe I've seen thus far.
Underrated 🤣🤣
Yes, but when does it get the blue color that Heisenberg sells?
Just gimme some Taco Bell. I can make the same thing - gas and all.
amazing
Perfect Halloween display.
What is the amount of sugar and sulphuric acid used
Dr. Stone sent me here.
Same
Dumb question but can i get the same effect with muriatic acid?
Hey, can you tell me the formula of this reaction?
Sugar+ sulphuric acid --> carbon + SO2(gas) + water
Now imagine what a person would look like if our body reacted like that... NeW HoRrEr MoViE!!1!!
1:03 What comes out later after you eat taco bell.
+Dcc357 shut up...
I would like to do this one... Are the fumes toxic?
Yes, sulfur dioxide is a poisonous gas. If you are going to try this, use a fume hood
My dad made his sister do this as she is a teacher, forgot to tell her it was exothermic, and produces gases, she almost killed an entire class full of kids and luckily didn’t loose her job.
oh really? Btw how would she teach if she doesn't know that?
How much time it takes to complete the process
This experiment is taught to Every science student.
can it be any kind of acid or it has to be sulfuric acid ?
Hi can use instead of.charcoal
Wow
That looked like coca cola 0:49
Yes
We're do u get sulfuric acid from
Don't do this at home kids or smell or taste
Can the sugar and sulfric acid be used as coal?
Nothings cooler than extremely caustic chemicals
good ! now let's eat
Concentrated sulphuric acid chars sucrose, the product being almost pure carbon.
SO COLL!This would be a GREAT science experiment.
so would spelling leesons...
what type of chemical reaction is this? please answer me. thanks
3:25, just asking this out of morbid curiosity, but am I right to assume that the same thing would happen to a marshmallow if exposed to sulfuric acid? (Not that I would even WANT to try that! 😑)
LittleAl016 i see what brought you here... hahahaha
Which types of sulphuric acid have you used in this reaction
