  • Note: this video was uploaded earlier but some of my viewers had a few doubts and questions unanswered. In this reupload I've tried my best to cover up those and help clear those points. Hope this is a better explanation for all.
    This video will help you understand how you can create 3D billboard videos for yourself, and render them to play on an actual curved screen! The Blender tutorial will help you set up the scene and cameras and understand the principle of anamorphic illusions and how to get them easily in Blender.

    • @CGiJutsu
      @CGiJutsu  ปีที่แล้ว

      At 6:15 what I'm doing is making a duplicate of the screen, and applying the modifier on the original one. This is done so that when i open it flat the texture stays UVed to it. If the modifier is still in stack the UVs won't get applied and the texture won't stay on it.

(the screen also has a curve, but one plane on the wall is vertical to the ceiling, and the second is located along the ceiling and reaches a point above the person) I ran into a problem with setting the camera. Should its settings be very elongated or in 360?

    • @CGiJutsu

      Is this screen too close to the viewer? The screen needs to be at a certain considerable distance from the observation point for it to work well. Also the screen orientation you're mentioning sounds like an inverted L rather than the billboard outside curves. I'm not sure about the illusion visuals in that.

    Hello! I'm working with a curved LED screen and I want to achieve a similar anamorphic effect. However the viewer will be closer to the screen, around 2 meters away. Thus, I put the camera's focal length at 80 or 100mm, at 2 meters away the camera covers barely half of my screen. The camera would have to be around 5-6 meters away from the screen which is not possible due to the restriction of the gallery space I'm working with.
    The focal length parameter that works best with having the camera 2 meters away from the screen is 30mm. Now I'm wondering if I'm going to achieve the anamorphic effect with those settings. Let me know what you think!

    • @emmaforgues2419
      @emmaforgues2419 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm also wondering if I need to do the process of flattening the screen, since I already have it's flat dimensions?

    • @CGiJutsu
      @CGiJutsu  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In a unique situation like that it's ok to vary the focal length as needed, as long as it fully covers the screen. But it's best to not keep the viewer point so close to the screen. Small focal length values might not give you the intended result.

    • @CGiJutsu
      @CGiJutsu  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think your lighting seems dim because you didn't plug in the texture into the emission node. Along with diffuse, the same texture needs to be plugged into the emission value as well to give the brightness of a screen.

      3d illusion can be created on flat screens as well (tho curved screens do much better job). Content to be designed in that manner.

    CAN YOU TELL ME AN EASY WAY TO FROM WHICH I CAN MATCH THE ASPECT RATIO OF THE CAMERA TO EXACT AS THE PLANE (ON WHICH WE ARE PROJECTING THE RENDER ) SO IF LIKE I MADE AN BILLBOARD OF A DIFFERENT SCALE AND DIMENSIONS AND I MADE THE 3D ANIMATION IN IT AND RENDERED OUT IN PNG AND NOW PROJECTING ON THE SCREEN NOW TO USE THE ACTUAL RENDER ON A BILLBOARD I NEED TO RENDER OUT THE SCREEN WHICH WE UNFOLDED RIGHT SO I HAVE TO MATCH THE CAMERA RESOLUTION WITH THE PLANE HOW CAN I MATCH IT AS THE PLANE AND THANKYOUU FOR THE GREAT GREAT VIDEO CAN YOU MAKE MORE MORE VIDEO FOR THE BILLBOARD IT'S ACTUALLY AMAZING NOT MANY PEOPLE HAVE DONE IT

      This final render output is for the purpose of playing it on an actual curved billboard screen. If you want to overlay it on a video of a location, that's just camera tracking process and you can directly overlay 3d content on 2d video, instead of this 2d render output

  • @CrisBlyth
    @CrisBlyth ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a good tutorial, and I love Blender, but in this particular case, Lightwave (the mostly dead app) made this around 50 steps easier. Make the geo as this video shows, and the separate screen, set up your 3D stuff etc so far the same - but then all you need to do is duplicate the camera, make it a 'surface baking camera' select the object you want to bake, and the UV set and then simply render that... it comes out completely clean, no unbending, no manually fitting to the screen, no needing to render out a sequence and then re use it, just render out once, done.
    Anyhow.. enough complaining.. perhaps as LW is kinda dead, they could copy the technique.

    • @CGiJutsu
      @CGiJutsu  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing the Lightwave workflow! This can help someone who's more familiar with that software, and get output quicker there.

    • @Gerharddej
      @Gerharddej ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CGiJutsu You would probably in Maya just take the same first render output and use that as a texture with its UV set to projection and then have that project back onto the object from your render camera. Then basically bake the Texture Sequence on that screen object to unfolded UVs. If you unfold the UVs so they are a rectangular shape without stretching or squashing then you could just use that baked sequence in After effects to manipulate it to the size of the video template from the billboard company I assume. I haven;t done it but that is what makes sense to me.

    Another Question:)
    If I have a sharp edge on my screen instead of a curved screen, what do I need to change in the process of creating the effect. I assume the 1.78 Aspect ratio doesnt fit anymore right?

    • @CGiJutsu
      @CGiJutsu  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1.78 aspect ratio doesn't affect the screen in any way. It is related to the camera. If your camera's aspect ratio is 16:9, then 16/9=1.78 is the value you enter in the modifier.

    • @CGiJutsu
      @CGiJutsu  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This kind of illusion has one viewing angle which is in the diagonal direction of the curved edge. Viewing this from far left or far right will break the illusion, as it gives you the view of only one of the two perpendicular screens.

      @khurramsa5133 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes in 3dsmax ,I were tested this ones a while ago,and there is a format option in rendering setup where from you can choose and after the render at camera eye proportional aligned measurements by you ,the extracted render video is odd looking I believe ,but if you don't have the projection studio,then design the 3d model building and import the video in material editor,and apply that on the curved building cornered surface,I never reached that far but you can try or I will.
