As Vampires. I genuinely don't know how thats possible, they have such a strong economy and such low upkeep that its easy to fix. Good old Blood Dragons with their 0/60 graveguard and 0/100 blood knights.
Hey Legend, I got into TWH3 about 2-3 months ago and I must say your channel is awesome. Not only is it informative and entertaining, but it adds a sense of community to this (mostly) singleplayer game.
Have you considered creating a google drive with the battles attached so that we can try them ourselves? A lot of these battles look like a lot of fun!
He used to do that in WH2. Maybe not enough people downloaded the files to warrant the effort and storage, by now he must have 1000+ of those campaign saves.
The way I like to use bats, is to combine them with two units of Vargheists. You send the bats in first to soak up hits, then attack with vargheists, much like you'd do with Skinks and Kroxigors. As another bonus, the bats tend to attack from ABOVE, while the vargheists land to attack. So, if you'd hitting the rear of the enemy's line like this, you've got: skellies hitting their front, bats hitting their top, and vargheists hitting their rear.
would be nice but 20/20 unit limit in an army is a thing. this only really works if you're fighting against chaff. 16 bats 2 vargheists aren't gonna do shit against a proper army, which is what endgame crisis armies are.
@@Sercotani Vargheists are incredibly powerful, you go after archers, then flank. I do often keep two armies together as VC though. If you're not using hordes of chaff as VC, then you've got them confused with some other faction; it's what raise dead and dead rise again are for.
bats can be free upkeep now? :O I had no idea. Good to know. And it's true the vampire counts have fallen out of favor from the players lately it seems :(
They are just simply boring to play.... I generally really really like their design, one of my favorite faction, but gameplay wise they need an update, a new faction mechanic and a few new units to make them interesting.
mods fixed them somewhat for me and I value fluff/aesthetics over everything, plus their battle tracks are really good, easily matches up to the best TWW2/3 has to offer. but unfortunately yeah, it's a night and day difference going from like, Elspeth and Malakai recently and starting Vlad, then seeing VC buildings/economy being super boring to manage. Good thing Winds of Death is still absolutely cracked though, and so is Invocation of Nehek.
Bats are one of the most underrated units in the game because people try to use them for damage when that's not what they're built for. Look how they stat up with experience- at 9 chevrons they have like(off memory, my apologies) 57 melee defense, 21 melee attack, their leadership problems are fixed, are super fast and can be healed. Their stat gains through exp are like 19MD but only 4MA. This is a not so subtle hint they're trying to give you on how to use them. Excellent unit for tying down higher priced units because they WILL catch them out in the open if the enemy strays from the pack. You want to stop a cav charge? Bats are faster, charge the cav from behind. The intercepted cav now get no charge bonus and are stuck fighting something they cant possibly run away from. TL;DR- someone gave you an infantry unit with their statline and they would be hailed as a great tarpit unit for the cost. Same unit but 5x the mobility? "Oh they're trash."
It’s not fair to compare bats with tarpit infantry on a pure cost or stat basis because the mass and model count are different. I agree with everything else you said, except that in MP, I somehow doubt that a bat with 9 chevrons will be worth its gold cost. Your own argument kinda works against itself, because there’s no way I’m paying that much for even a good to great MD boost on a 45 model unit (not even 60, but 45! Not good) with
Except they are very fragile and will die in seconds if you don't babysit them. I like them for their role, which for me is dealing with towers or tying up weak units. But they are always the first unit to crumble and die in my army. Not saying they are a bad unit but they are situational and fragile unless you focus your army on them and buff their stats enough to keep them alive.
