Picking up a pair of 888's locally this week. Thanks for your reviews and effort to help us all out. If I didn't have a local store I would use your link.
I prefer the 888s to any Revel speakers that use ceramic coated aluminum drivers, because I feel the former has a more lush, organic timbre (is it the paper drivers?). The Revels had more of a studio monitor, sterile sound in comparison. I heard the KEF Blade 2s at a local retailer, and I had loved how they are able to recreate a more realistic sonic image of actual bands playing in physical space, than most other speakers. I don't feel that those excel at everything, but that part was truly special to me. Everything else had sounded more like it was reproducing a recording. Klipsch La Scalas, and any Magnepans 2.7 or better, had sounded very lifelike too, and those also have flaws of their own.
I wish you would compare MoFi with KEF R7 Meta. Also $5k a pair at Crutchfield. Also point source. Also 3-way. More similar in size to the MoFi. Soon? Love your channel!
Erin had reviewed the R5 Meta. Andrew Robinson had reviewed the R11 Meta. I had found the KEF house sound, to be a more laid back listen, and not lively. Harman spends a lot of money figuring what kind of sound most people like, so you will find Revel speakers have a neutral and pleasing house sound. Not too lively, not too laid back. No one frequency range emphasized.
I own the 226 and if you are integrating with subs you may want to try flipping polarity on the subs or use a lot of phase on the sub. When I first hooked them up with my subs bass output decreased until I figured this out - Audioholics mentions the polarity in review. BTW these are awesome speakers!! No experience with the Mofi. Hope someone finds this helpful. Erin keep up the great work!! Thank you!
Lots of love to anyone willing to lend their speakers to Erin for a review! This whole thing is such a great source of learning, just wish I had a rocket scientist with a klippel in my neighbourhood..
That’s an easy question in many European countries such as mine, since Revel is nowhere to be found, while you can easily buy any MoFi speaker (online, if you wish). The big advantage of the Harman group is also its big problem, which is to manage so many brands at the same time. Revel is a very small brand in the Harman Group context, and one that doesn’t bring a lot of revenue. From a long time ownership perspective, it’s hard to tell if Harman wakes up one day and decides to do the same thing that it did with Infinity, Soundcraft, and other brands. In this price bracket, the KEF R11 Meta would be much first choice (subject to listening tests/comparisons with the MoFi), as KEF is a speaker manufacturer company for many decades, unlike MoFi, which is a relatively new player on the loudspeaker market. This may become important if the buyer needs a replacement part one or two decades from now, while also affecting the resale value if the buyer decides to sell the speaker before that. I also feel that KEF has a better understanding of their target customers on how the speaker will most likely be placed and aesthetics (these MoFi are a bit lacking in that department). As for the Revels, they do feel like they were never intended for the European market.
I totally agree with the problematic aspects of Revel in Europe. Here they are not found in almost any store. There is practically no distribution. And there are only a few specific stores that have “found a way” to have the material online. In Spain, nothing at all. And it is surprising since Revel have the support of Harman and enormous credibility in the USA… but here, nothing at all. I have a pair of F208 bought on eBay. They are great.
this brings another issue - service. If anything goes wrong with Revels, like your cat will scratch the driver, good luck getting replacement or even reply from them
Interesting comparison. I have the Revel 126Be bookshelves and was considering the 226s since the silver ones are $4K for the pair, about the same price. I have a pair of subs so I probably don’t need the additional drivers but not having to deal with stands may be better. Decisions, decisions.
The 226s are phenomenal. Their dynamics are incredible: that midrange has super low distortion. The three way design does a really good job of keeping tonality stable throughout the room.
I have both the revels 226, 126 and kef reference 1 (non meta). All 3 outstanding speakers but with bass management and room correction, unless you need crazy output, there isn’t too much difference in the revels. I would suggest looking into getting a Lyngdorf integrated strictly for Room Perfect or dirac live bass control.
I have the revel and if you decide to get it and integrate with a sub/subs I recommend flipping polarity on the sub (or speakers if you don’t have a polarity switch) and if using sealed subs plug the port to have a closer slope on the cross over. Audioholics also mentions this in their review. You could also use phase but it isn’t quite the same. If just running by themselves they are also awesome!!
This video could not have come out a better time because I am literally debating on purchasing the 328BE from Revel or waiting for the new Arendal 1528 series or perlisten. I run my speakers off of a Tonewinner 11-channel amp with my Denon X4700H in preamp mode. After muting the volume for a few minutes and restarting it and seemed to be working fine afterwards.
If someone is using subs I would lean toward the 226be. Without subs, the 888 every time as I think bass is super important. I would guess the Revel is a bit more detailed from where the tweeter takes over, just a guess though. The 228be with subs high-passed at 60hz was pretty good. I agree with you @vvsousa. I have heard both of these, and they are good, but the Revel misses upper end detail and has zero soundstage depth. They are BLAND. The MoFi is a nice and neutral speaker, but I think it does everything a little better, but it's ugly and there are better speakers out there. That said, the Martin Logan XTF 100 or 200s would be my pick. They can get a little zippy up top, but they are really good. Also the PS Audio FR10s should be cross-shopped as well....and I would put the Morel Avyra 663 up against either of these too.
The ML has elevated treble by about 5dB. If you like the top end of those speakers then … now you know why and you can shop for speakers that exhibit this behavior. Usually one of the most important stuff about in their cabinet, neither Erin or Amir focused a lot into this. People who aren't into measurements tend to don't like Revel and if you see the only guy that do proper cabinet measurements Revel is one of the worst cabinet around this price, their lightweight cabinet with not that much focus in ressonances are just not great.
@@CC-xu2yz Why? i don't have any relation with any brand, im just a free guy talking in internet. The f226be is 26kg and speakers that are great in that category are 40kg to 50kg. For example the ref3 NO meta is 50 Kg, my speaker with dual 6.5'' and a tweeter is 42kg, usually lightweight speakers like REVEL or Sonus faber tend to ressonate internally, apparently Erin method doesn't work well to determine QUALITY from the cabinet, just to find annoying resonances I did saw the erin f226be review and apparently in the measurement i see many little resonances.
The Revels are a complete headscratcher to me. I'm a believer in the measurement based approach. Listened to them at a Hifi store and ended up finding them just meh. Super detailed top end but cold, clinical, unengaging, narrow soundstage. I so didn't expect that sort of subjective impression but that's what it heard in their treated rooms. For conparison, the ATC SCM-40s and especially Dynaudio Heritage Specials sounded so much better. More engaging, much better bass and the Esotar 3 just absolutely blew away the Revels BE tweeter in soundstage and envelopment. Do those measure as flat and well? Nope. But even with good room correction, I bet they would still sound so much better. This has definitely made me back off the purely objectivist view on speakers a bit.

Oh, man, tell me about it! I really miss those days when he would do shoot out type videos and tell you what not to buy. For example, this video he did one month ago. I wish she did those every day! 😉🤦♂️😂
Top 10 Best (and Worst) Speakers Under $300!

Revel 328 has a different (better) tweeter.
I would buy the MartinLogan Motion XT F200, they must be better in every way and much more beautiful.
If they’re anything like the B100 - which I reviewed last year - then it’s a hard pass for me.
There doesn’t have to be so much division over speakers, guys. Enjoy your speakers and seek out the reasons why. That’s what I’m doing here.
+5db treble sounds terrible when you crank up the volume
@@dicmccoy zero slope down on inroom responce sounds bright. Ive heard the b100 and it sounds super bright with weak bass. So thin and bright sounding speaker. Thats my opinion. I havent heard the F200 tho they Could be better.
Mofi = better bass = better value
Usually one of the most important stuff about in their cabinet, neither Erin or Amir focused a lot into this.
People who aren't into measurements tend to don't like Revel and if you see the only guy that do proper cabinet measurements Revel is one of the worst cabinet around this price, their lightweight cabinet with not that much focus in ressonances are just not great.
They’re not lightweight. There were no panel resonances when I reviewed the speaker.
@@ErinsAudioCorner its just 26Kg.
I think you should get your own channel and enlighten us.
@@CC-xu2yz Why? i don't have any relation with any brand, im just a free guy talking in internet. The f226be is 26kg and speakers that are great in that category are 40kg to 50kg. For example the ref3 NO meta is 50 Kg, my speaker with dual 6.5'' and a tweeter is 42kg, usually lightweight speakers like REVEL or Sonus faber tend to ressonate internally, apparently Erin method doesn't work well to determine QUALITY from the cabinet, just to find annoying resonances
I did saw the erin f226be review and apparently in the measurement i see many little resonances.
