Hi, is there a way to duplicate a Google Doc and change the name and some content, for the document. I am used to using Word and using "save as".
When my daughter is sick, I send a note to the school with the only changes that are made is to each note is:
. the date I sent the note
. each day and date she was off school sick for that period of time
when I save each note, I "save as" with the heading - absent 1, absent 2, absent 3.........then place each of these notes in a folder name for that year - 2011, 2012, 2013
This way I can keep track of the days my daughter is off sick and keep track when the school contact us of a missing absent note
I suppose this would be the same when you are doing a letter for work/business and have to send the same letter , but just change a few details (and possible to keep each copy)
With Google Docs, it doesnt have the "save as" option, as it saves your work as you go - but what happens when you need the "save as" option, same letter but to change small sections of it
    Thanks Sean

    • @ProlificOaktree

Try going to File, then Make a copy. Then you can name the new copy whatever you would like and it separates from the current copy.

I do the tutorials on the desktop version because you can see the mouse and the desktop version has all of the functionality. If I did the tutorials on mobile, you would see the limited options that are available there. If that's all you use, I commend you! I can use these apps on a tablet with a keyboard, but anything more than a quick update on a phone is painful for me. The keyboard hides too much of the screen.

Incidentally, you can change the filename taken automatically first line of the document just by clicking on the filename next to the blue docs icon while the document is open.
I use docs to compose emails with pictures embedded within the text, my yahoo mail won't let me do that so I select all, copy and paste into yahoo text body. Job done. I shall look into other formatting in docs to apply to yahoo mail too.
I am pretty much stuck in yahoo mail as at the dawn of time I could you a distinctive personal address there and all my contacts remember it well, also storage there seems to be unlimited.

If it’s not requiring you to log in, then that means that you are already logged into a Google account and it’s using that. Docs is as secure as your Google account.

Just one thing. I have never understood how to create columns once I have started a document. So I was excited to learn how. But I still couldn't make it work. After some trial and error I learned something that you didn't specifically teach. Let's say I wrote two paragraphs and I want the second one to be in columns. I can't just type the second paragraph and without hitting enter, highlight it and create columns. I have to hit enter - getting past the second paragraph - and then highlight it. Then it will work. (hope this makes sense.)

Good video. Been working with word processors since Word and never knew that little indent trick on the bag at the top. It seems I am always learning something new.

It actually pretty funny, too me at least. I can tell when a teacher makes kids watch one of my videos because I get a bunch of immature comments within a few minutes of each other. Sometimes talking back and forth to eachother through the comennts.

@@perciatienza8123 I don't know why yours wouldn't be working. I only know how I got it to work! If you figure it out, let us know with another comment how you did it so we can help others out with the same problem.
