My first gravel driveway renovation. The Ventrac made easy work of it although there were a few areas where the larger rock was pretty rough on the machine.

Hey Pete. When I saw you explain the job in the intro I said there’s no way he’s gna get that Ventrac to do the job. WOW was I wrong!!! Ventrac is a beast but you did a masterful job operating it! (Ventrac oughta use this video as a training video). The end result is impressive! Diversification in business is key to longevity! Love the video!

    Good video.
Glad to see someone take pride in their work. I run a motor grader at my place of employment and finishing driveways isn’t an easy task.
I’ve been thinking about purchasing a Ventrac or skid loader to perform certain tasks like this and make a little money on the side.

I have to give credit when it’s earned! You not only made that neglected stone driveway look outstanding when you were finished, I truly appreciate you taking the time, you’re time to video yourself learning how to use that power rake! I’ve never done a job like that I did general Lawn service and chemical’s but I believe your customers are going to be shocked when they first drive on their refurbished gravel driveway. Just a humble observation when I first noticed the exposed water culvert at the beginning of the driveway I really thought you would have had to add some extra stone to raise the entire apron of the driveway to completely cover the culvert. It actually looks as if the beginning of the driveway is wider about 2 or 3’ on each side! Outstanding job sir! Thank you again for sharing this! Jay 🦅 NYS!

I don’t have the means to do this for fun.. but I’ve rented a few machines and loved doing it. I’ve said for a while now.. if I ever run into some money.. It's really nice watching an honest owner review of the Ventrac. You mentioned rip rap. We had that down where I came from and the quarryman told me they were huge rocks in the hundreds of pounds size. Thanks to you showing some, I just looked it up and, sure enough, it's only 6 to 9 inches according to one construction co. You also mentioned crusher run. Ours was mixed with dust so fine that, after the first rain, it would almost turn hard as cement. Again, thanks for the great video.

Good bit of work on the little machine.. but there are a few concerns. You started digging up the base pit rock (3"-5) which is always the road base. Since you dug that up, pulled it to the surface and mixed it in.. there might be sections of that road that are going to quickly develop ruts and bumps sinking into that soft ground. I personally would have brought in several loads of dirty 3/4" minus/scrap and leveled that on top of everything. Sad part with gravel roads, they always need more rock and a good crown to prevent puddling.

If I could ask, about how long did it take to do this job? Start to finish. The reason I ask is, my boss does driveway repair. Sometimes they (customer) requests different material. No getting around fuel savings there. Sometimes they just want pothole repair. Sometimes they just want it built up higher. If one machine with 3 attachments takes a little longer, but saves fuel and material costs, it seems feasible. Watching this machine work, I am convinced my boss would readily appreciated the versatility and capabilities of it. For the first time using the attachment or machine, you did an excellent job. I would have no complaints at the quality.

Ventrac uses a belt so its the weak link , that you can replace it without tools in a minute or two if needed rather than a sheer bolt or possible gear box or stove shaft repair , or even a slip clutch which eventually wears out .
So far only dirt monkey smoked a belt and they really pushed the rough cut mower thru 6 or 7 foot growth a steep slope and stumps to do it , new belt back at it ,finished the job belt was fine

How did you bill him? Be honest, the estimate included rock delivery huh? Or did you say if you needed to order rock you'd charge him more? Hope you did the right thing.

Janoy Cresva if he charged to get the job done right and he did the job right then he's in the clear.

@@anatoliydariy2261 Not true. He mentioned "getting out of" getting some rock. Makes me think he itemized that on the bill. Very rarely will a contractor say "I'll come back and ask for more money if we need more material. " If the customer pays for rock then they should get rock. If a plumber says that you need all new parts in your toilet to fix it, but he ends up just changing one part its NOT ok to still charge the customer for all the parts. Nobody pays for work like "Heres a bunch of money, just fix it!" Any decent contractor will itemize on the bill what they did and what the customer paid for. For the same reason that a contractor wouldnt go buy some rock out of his pocket. You cant just add a bunch of extra money "just in case" you need something but then just keep it if you dont.

Now that you pulled the base rock to the surface, his original problem is going to be worse after next winter. You should have went lighter on your rake and added more minus.
