I worked in the Oroville CHP office for about 10 years. We were practically neighbors!
Thanks for the kind words and give us a holler if we can help you make that move.

This was great. Thank you. It’s our first season here and it’s definitely an education. It’s absolutely stunning here.

Why are the windshield wipers sticking up on the other car in the driveway (6:44)?

Good question: people do that so they don't freeze to the windshield on cold nights

Did you film this today Saturday? Yesterday Friday? Or Thursday? I know this wasn't Wednesday because I drove down Government and back up 95 for something and the road were much snowier than this. That's what you should have filmed. Let the Californians know what they're getting themselves in for.
My husband and I currently share an SUV. I have proposed a car for the second vehicle, but we'd still have the SUV to share in weather like this. I would not make it out or back into my neighborhood in a car in this weather. I drove in many blizzards in my life growing up in Buffalo, but they plowed there. It was just the driveway I had to deal with.

Thursday. Yeah, I remember the roads in NY being better maintained...

    Snow makes everything look pretty.
Not going to lie at 3:38 it looked like you lost control when the camera swings to the left.
Do they salt the roads at all there? It was a common practice back east where I grew up (PA). But never seen it done much on the west coast. I've been told they don't salt roads in California cause of the runoff would pollute the streams and lakes that are used as water supply. Not to mention it completely destroys your vehicle.

Sometimes, liquid salt, but mostly not. They also only plow main arterials or If you live in a subdivision most are under HOAs and you pay for the HOA to plow. We live in a very small old neighborhood and the side streets have not been plowed at all. I drive an AWD SUV with studded tires so I am fine, but you can't drive an actual car right now in this area.

Haha, no, maybe got a little squirrley on me..
They do salt here, and use gravel in some areas as well. That's why it's important to wash the underside of your car out here.

if you could have any one car/truck/suv for a family here to handle the snow, what would you choose?

Toyota Highlander or similar. I say Highlander because we’ve had two of them up here and they’ve done great. Also would swap on some snow tires for the winter. We like Blizzak snow tires. They are pretty unstoppable.

There are shitty drivers wherever you go. I previously made a career based entirely on that fact. lol
