Thank you very much for teaching us, for sharing your knowledge. You are facilitating me to learn how to knit. Long life to a great selfishness teacher!
Thank you for such an incredible compliment but there is no way i did better than you! I am maybe advanced beginner and your tutorial walked me right through! Thank You again and i look forward to creating more of your projects!
You are so sweet! I was able to figure out what i did wrong and am doing great -i l love this pattern! I am 25 rows in 15 to go before beginning decrease. I am so excited to see this finished - thank you so very much for sharing!!
John Kincaid that is wonderful that you were able to figure it out... what a great feeling right?... was it that you did go in the opposite direction? Also, if you need to make it longer (for a taller baby) do not hesitate to add few more rows before you start decreasing :-) I actually want to make more designs - I love these baby sacks
I feel terrible about your dogs and i would have been screaming too! Thankfully my two do not fight. Cleo,my bulldog is 4 years younger than Justice my labrador. She is attached to him like crazy and he is very tolerant of her. Every now and again has to remind her who's boss though lol! I promise i will post as soon as i give them their presents. Made an infant hat for him too. The multi colored blue and green you saw on my page. This baby is the son of a young man that grew up with my boys. The baby is like another grandchild to me! He was born 4 months premature and weighed only 1 and a half pounds. He is almost 4 lbs now and almost ready to come home from the hospital. I have shared with some friends your videos - you are so gracious for sharing, tysm!
John Kincaid the family is so blessed they have you to love the baby (and them) the way you do... the world is a better place :-) I'll be waiting for a photo (do not post images of the baby for privacy purpose - just what you knitted)
I finished and it came out very nice! A beginner i was a little nervous but your video is great! At the end, i used kitchener stitch instead of pulling through. I dont know how to post to google images though... I would love for you to see it!
John Kincaid if you (or any of your relatives) have any other social media account (Facebook, tumbler, or Instagram etc.) - you can post it there - make sure it is public (otherwise we will not be able to see it) - then after image uploads to one of these medias, you click on the image - the images address will display up in the address on top of the page - you copy the address and then paste it here in the post :-) I am excited to see it :-)
+hannah wen - you did fabulous job and I love the color of the yarn 😍 your baby will be cozy. I gave my sack to a friend and she loved it - she used it until she could no longer use it 😀
Lol, it is hard for me to explain but i was knitting with the needles away from me not close to me if that makes any sense. When i started over, this time i made sure i started correctly and sure enough, knitting was now on rs...this is coming together nicely and will post finished project when done if you like. This is for a preemie who will soon leave the hospital to come home. I am thinking of making it longer just because coming into the summer months i dont know how much use the bag will get - it feels so warm! Baby is almost 4 lbs now - what do you think? Again, thank you so much for sharing. I looked at a lot of baby sacks on line and yours was by far the best!
John Kincaid You got it - I would be writing many sentences to express myself to get to the point LOL... anyway if you think about it, the wrong side was really facing you when you were knitting the wrong way, and that is why you were knitting to the right (= in the opposite direction) instead of the the left (that means if you are right-handed)... I still will make the video for other knitters - it could be helpful when needed :-) I am glad you like this video - I think it is a simple and fairly easy design for wider crowd of knitters, and fairly roomy to slide baby inside :-) Yes please, post your video to your Google+ images (I make all my files a lot smaller to fit as many as possible into my free Google Images account) and make it public so we can see it :-)
H Your videos are wonderful and easy to understand. I have baby 3 ply yarn can I use that to knit the baby sleeping bag? My grandmother was from Prussia Germany she taught me how to speak German when I was a year old When I was 13 years old she taught me how to knit . Now at the age of 48 I knit and crochet grandmother went to heaven 9 years ago she was 85.
Nancy Strand yes you can - and I made a video for everyone to see how to do it the "best way" (IMHO, well at least that is what I think LOL) - turn that baby 3 ply yarn into bulky yarn - th-cam.com/video/L7mug_y4BZM/w-d-xo.html
Hi - i have so enjoyed your videos! I am making the baby sleep sack but when i switched to circular needles, wrongside facing in, and started to knit, tje knit stitch was on the wrong side- help! What am i doing wrong?
John Kincaid hi Debbie - the only way it is happening is that you are going in the opposite direction (one of my students did just that and could not understand ether what he was doing wrong) - I think I would have to show you in person as it is hard to describe by just words... I will make a quick video tomorrow and post it on internet - this will be a good tutorial for anyone who is fairly new to knitting... it will take me couple of hours to do it, but it will be really worth it and educational for future references
Greetings! I have made several of these and love everyone loves them. Question, I have 2 summer babies I would like to make this for but feel like the dble strand bulky weight will be too warm. Do you have any suggestions for me for yarn weight and needles that may be better for a July baby gift? Thanks!!
+Deborah Lenz Archibald - Hi that is wonderful that everyone loves them... this is what I would do: 1. buy thinner yarn (#4 = worsted, OR for very hot summers #3 = DK)... then I would calculate the stitches and rows - how wide do you usually make your "hood"? how many inches - then it will tell you on the label how many stitches in 4" - and if the hood (before you sew it) is for example 12" wide, then that is 3x wider than 4" - so you need to start on 3x higher number of stitches... then you knit the length in inches - do not worry about how many rows - so it just will fit the length of the baby... and then decrease approximately in a similar way like in the video for the bottom - you would have to adjust decreases and rows to make it round on the bottom... I hope this helps, good luck and let me know if you will succeed and how you did your decreases for others to learn - thank you
+Deborah Lenz Archibald when you figure out how to adjust for the lighter yarn (# of stitches and length of cocoon), will you let me know and tell me which #yarn (3 or 4) you used. My granddaughter is due in July so I also need a summer weight yarn. I am not a very experienced knitter so any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated! Many thanks!
John Kincaid OMG, I am soooo excited.... 2 thumbs and 2 big toes up!!!! how beautiful - NICE NICE job!!!!! I bet parents LOVED it..... If you never ever delete the image and let it be public for ever I could share it with www - only if you give me permission :-)
Shamim, do a swatch - count how many stitches fit into 1" and multiply the number of stitches by number of inches you need to start the project. If you are measuring in centimeters, then count how many stitches in 10 cm and multiply those stitches by number of centimeters you need to start your project... 🍀
if you are on Facebook - share it on the wall or in the messages - facebook.com/HandMade-Rukodelky-127289007376480/ or via my channel here - th-cam.com/users/HandMadeRukodelkyabout
hi - I went to your blog to see if I could find the gage or width but didn't find that information - I want to hold 2 strands of yarn together and need to know how many to cast on - I am going to make this for my newest grandbaby and I can measure the length for that gage but just not sure about the cast on because my yarn won't be near that bulky
jmarylastone Hi, my yarn was bulky #5 - the rowing type - very fluffy and light.... Since I do not have the "baby sack" anymore, I did a quick swatch and this is the outcome: 4" x 4" = 8 sts x 12 rows... I hope this helps... when you done please, share an image :-)
I just cast on and I think I got it close enough (counting in the difference in yarn size) - but I got to tell you what happened that is so funny .... I was measuring measuring and I was way off so I pulled and tugged and re-measured and hummed and hawed - when I was showing my husband how off gauge I was I notice I was measuring with the wrong side of the ruler using metric and not inches!!! I had to shake my head on that one and laugh - all is well now and I will share some photos as soon as I get a little more done
jmarylastone I am still up, working on something for my knitting group and so ---- hahahahaha - that is very funnnyyyy hahaha.... I make lot of goofs too.... I think I sound too serious on videos, but I do laugh to anything even slightly silly or funny... I had a really good laugh today when my friend sent me a funny video about a very smart and sensitive cat: th-cam.com/video/5sy1MDHZ27M/w-d-xo.html - looking forward to see your image(s) :-)
My children are 5 and 8 years old and want me to make a version of this for them! Could one just multiply the number of stitches to make it wider? and perhaps leave the base open? Just thinking through how to adapt this for children who want to snuggle into a knitted blanket-bag with a hood!
I would crochet a chain as long as needed and that would tell me how many stitches for knitting I need. I would make sure I have multiple of 10. the multiple of ten would help me to decrease in the foot area. Let me know if you need more help
thankyou! great tips. I suppose the width is quite flexible really, if it is somewhat wide that is okay as its basically a sit-in blanket. Do you have any other tutorials for children's items?
One more question I'm new to knitting only start at New Year's Eve as a bit of a challenge . At the right old age of 52 😁.If I was to knit this on circular needles what size would you recommend the loop would need to be. Thank you in advance
You are still very young to start - some people start around 80 and yet make a LOT of beautiful items, so kudos to you 👍 this challenge is great for your health too - it will help you with keeping your mind sharp... Now the circular needles would need to be either smaller than the circumference of the sleeping bag, although when you would start decreasing (at the bottom) you would run into a problem because the decreased stitches in the round will decrease the diameter.... OR you would have to use a really long circulars in order you could use so called "magic circle" which helps people to knit in the round without using DPNs (double pointed needles) - you will have to watch some videos on TH-cam - I never made a video how to do the magic circle with circular needles..
Bronislava 4 HandmadeRukodelky thank you. what I might do then is start on straight needles then go on to circular needles and then double pointed needles for the decreased
that is a great thinking - you are thinking like an experienced knitter!!! 👍 if you need to learn how to hold DPNs - I have a video you can watch - th-cam.com/video/tQWxy8mFKlk/w-d-xo.html
I am so sorry about the fight you pups had! I would be out of my mind! I know why you cant see the picture. I put all friends Except the girl i am giving this to as a gift. John Kincaid Debbie I think we can wait to see it for one week... I gave this sack to my friend and she LOVED it.... BTW I live in CT :-) Yes, I was out of my mind - not smiling and sweet at all - rather a witch when I was trying to separate them - I think neighbors had a nice theater this early evening - two small dogs fighting for life and me screaming bloody murder and running around them to stop for about 10 minutes - I thought Yoda (who is in my videos) will kill Toyen (sweet and shy female, HIS mother!!!!!!!!!).... my neighbors didn't even have to plug in TV - we were far more entertaining.... I was shaken for 2 hours afterwards, including a belly ache from the stress
