  • Ask not where life can take you -- ask where you can take life!
    Tuan Nguyen, a philanthropist and entrepreneur, began his life with a simple goal of always making a positive difference in people's lives. Surviving death during his escape after the fall of Viet Nam in 1975, he sees the world from a lens of gratitude and has been the foundation for all his hopes, dreams, and vision. His stories demonstrates how volunteerism is the best platform for professional and personal development.
    In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

    Mr. Nguyen, I can't thank you enough for this talk. I've been working for a university in the Atlanta area for 5+ years. I sometimes feel that my job is pointless because people just don't see the importance or volunteerism; they only see service as a class requirement. I grew up volunteering in a variety of different activities, so I know how service can impact the community. I I just wish my students could see the bigger picture! Thank you for renewing my faith in what I do and for inspiring me to peruse my own personal dreams!

      HI there,
      i should be the one thanking you. I did this Talk and did not promote it to anyone and believe that it will be found by those who will feel the impact and purpose of this talk. You are not alone and neither am I. Know that no matter what others say, people around you have already felt the difference you made (I'm sure of it) and more will feel your impact and will be grateful for your love and compassion. All the best and please feel free to stay in touch! (tuan@healthgenie.ca)

    Appreciate you sharing how volunteerism benefits personal development.
    We recommend to our volunteers a learning approach first before venturing out to assist, service and volunteer. People teach, not schools so educational travel is a good way for people to connect and respect the outside world. Robert Newton - Volunteer Project Manager - Volunteer Inns

    Hi Tuan, thank you so much for such inspiring speech. Speaking out loud as a pure Malaysian or rather Asian, our community were taught to volunteer and be helpful since young yet not many of them question why (should we volunteer/be helpful). I was once one of those kids whom just followed until I learned the meaning of paying forward (which is volunteering for a purpose in my perspective) few years back then.
    It definitely opens up my mind, that I've never take notice on how volunteerism could make a difference in building one persona. Proudly saying that volunteerism experiences develop me in person. After a year plus of actively joining various events (NGOs, Social Entrepreneur and Corporate), I have come to a determination of building personalities and professional qualities of each & every young gen through volunteering. More like igniting the sense of purpose and direction as a volunteer over here in Malaysia. Currently, my boyfriend and I are kickstarting things at the simplest and most minimum actions by gathering volunteers first. It would be really great if I could get in touch with you personally to learn more about your experiences and insights! :)

    • @dudebuddha7494
      @dudebuddha7494 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hi Maria, I apologize for the delay in reply. If this is not too late, here are a few ways you can start volunteering again. (1) choose an activity you enjoy doing and find an event or cause that allows you to do it or support it. For example. I like dancing. I volunteer for an organization that helps disabled individuals learn contemporary dancing but I also join lets boogie-a-thon and it's dancing and fundraising at the same time and as I mentioned in the video, I started CASCO. (2) find a cause you believe in, list some of your greatest skill sets and then approach events or these very organizations and see how you can lend your gifts to help their cause. (3) launch your own, your way, your style and share it with your friends

    Taun, I am a college student presenting at a leadership conference in February about how to incorporate service into organizations and I will be sharing this video. Can you give college leaders any advice on how to go about doing that? Also, what benefits can one expect to see from professional, personal, etc. aspects as one begins to actively volunteer and serve others? Thanks in advance!

    i strongly admit that the volunteerism definetly teach you the compasion,harmony, self respect the dignity of labour towards the underpreviledged society. I would suggest all the academic institutes to inculate this kind of attitudes at grass roots level to mould themselves to be grown as a better citizen in the latter days
