That's the way to do a classic ride. Leave the body styling like it is, and just add some wheels or upgrades on brakes or existing mechanicals. It doesn't hurt the value as it can be easily put back to stock.

Man those were the days automobile's had the greatest lines and contour's , that's a badass bird...

Mine was brown. These cars really, really fly. Not great on corners but when you go so fast the interstate feels like a backroad you thank goodness for how much that big block weighs. My speedometer went up to 160. I pegged it back to 0. It still felt like it was accelerating. Beast of a car.

Bought one of these in high school, 429 thunderjet with a freshly rebuilt C6. $300....guy never got the engine runnin...had to tow it home with my 79 Tbird. Ended up rebuilding it and wedging into the 79. That was more than a handful to get it to fit and operate in that car. Not a good first project for a 17 yr old, but it worked out after a hell of a lotta headaches! Nice lookin 70 there!

All you had to do on the 77 bird is use 72-76 torino 429/460 motor mounts and trans cross member and it would of been a bolt right in . lol. 77-79 t bird is just a torino chassis

@@dowen1511 internet woulda been handy back then too, as well as One single friend that was a Ford fan. I was the loner in that group. That “headache” of a 429 we put together ripped tits. As intended. Good times

@Skip R it was a first time engine rebuild/swap at age 17. Needed to be done in a more professional setting. A bit more experience woulda helped too. The engine bay was large enough indeed. Thanks for checkin in.

I had a couple of 1969 Thunderbirds. I just cannot abide with that Bunkie Knudsen beak they added in 1970. It was tolerable on the LTD, but it's just too much on the 'bird.

Top.

5 ash trays and no passenger side mirror. Different times 1/2 a century ago. Very nice car. The interior is in great condition including the arm rests. What does the red button on the center console do?

this beautiful car shows that ford certainly took a different tack than GM or even Lincoln with "personal luxury coupe", preferring to focus more on performance, than luxury

    • @rjs1674

Agreed but they took out the AC and heater and associated apparatus and out a piece of fiber board over the passenger side firewall. I would put it back to original.

Yeah, those wheels are f-ing fugly dude. Seriously. That was probably the last year that the Thunderbird had anything in the way of styling that could be considered appealing, but you're killing whatever is left of that with those wheels. 😲
