- Sudha Raghunathan was born in a Tamil Brahmin family in Bangalore, Karnataka. In 1977, her family moved to Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She studied at Ethiraj College, and obtained a postgraduate degree in Economics. she received an Indian government scholarship to study music under a doyenne of Carnatic music,Dr. M.L Vasantha Kumari, whose student she remained for thirteen years.
The early years of her training under Vasanthakumari involved considerable amounts of listening to the teacher and other practitioners to absorb their style and oeuvre. Part of her duties involved the accompaniment on the tanpura of her teacher during concerts, and occasionally singing the higher registers.
Sudha Raghunathan has performed at the Madras Music Season, the most distinguished venue for Carnatic music, every year since 1990. Indeed, with the award in 2013 of the Sangita Kalanidhi of the Madras Music Academy, her importance as one of India's finest classical musicians has been firmly established.
Besides the Carnatic repertoire, Sudha Raghunathan has also explored the world music scene, in particular fusion music. She has performed as a playback singer in the Tamil cinema as well.
She is known for her charitable work, heading the Samudaaya Foundation that provides healthcare to the poor. The foundation has also raised funds for victims of the Gujarat earthquake and cyclone relief in Orissa.
He awarded many prestigious tittle likes are Sangita Kalanidhi from Madras Music Academy (201, Padma Shri award in the field of Carnatic vocal music (2004),Sangeetha Choodamani, from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai (1997).Kalaimamani award from the state government of Tamil Nadu, India (1993).Bharat Jyothi from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, New York (1988).

Thank God that advts are only between songs and not in the middle of every song.
These are the songs I first heard in her voice. I got addicted to her divine voice which beautified my mornings which took me to energetic spiritual vibrant atmosphere of Tamil Nadu when I worked there. Today on Vijayadasmi day her songs again appeared in my Mobile without any attempt from my side. Feeling blessed 🙏🙏🙏 ❤️

Thanks for uploading a collection of songs on Divine Mother rendered by the melodious singer Smt Sudha Raghunathan. She has a very sweet flexible and yet strong voice. Kudos to her talent. But a strange anomaly is found in the index of songs. Each song was written and the same person composed tune to the lyric and also sang it to an audience or disciples after completing its creation.. Those composer-poets are a class apart. They are called Vaaggeyakaaras as different from great singers who render others's songs with great ability and beauty. Each song in the collection has an author and that author also set music to his own lyric.. But in the index "Traditional" is mentioned against each song for Composer. Opposite to Lyrics we find the name of the Vaggeyakaara. It gives the impression the tune is handed down in oral tradition, and Deekshitar, GNB and others wrote lyrics for those traditional tunes. So laymen think that the music was not created by the composer. People easily believe this because in film music the lyric is created by a poet and music is set by the composer and someone else sings it...and yet someone else acts on the screen. Here such a thing does not happen. Only two persons are involved: the composer(lyricist cum music composer) and the singer ( like Sudha Raghunathan). Language does matter in these matters. Otherwise we set a wrong tradition and hand down wrong information.
Very good point. Instead of repeating ‘Traditional’ which is unnecessary and misleading they could have listed the raga and tala names.
Unfortunately the ones who ‘sell’ Carnatic Music like Inreco do not do a thorough job in providing the basic information about a composition.
