This is actually the first episode from Series One, titled 'Civvy Street', first broadcast on 23 Sep. 1960. I was 7 and remember it well, I can even remember the Army Game from which this was a spin-off!

Brilliant Tony! Thanks ever so much for putting this on TH-cam so we can all enjoy it again mate. I was a little boy in Belfast when this was on and I used to laugh myself silly at these two and their " funny" accents. I remembered them from " The Army Game "so I was already a small fan. Bill Fraser in real life was a very kind and thoughtful man who had seen action in his war service. I think he took part in the Normandy landings too. I read in an autobiography of someone who escapes me at the moment, about Bill bumping into an old army chum in a street in London a year or two after the war was over. The man was a little down on his luck in finding theatre work and Bill helped him get by and even put him up for a while If I remember rightly. He gave him a few pounds too just to make sure he had a meal and things when he met him. I'm sorry I cannot remember the person's name but I do remember that he was quite famous eventually and never forgot the kindness of Bill. The work of Barry Took and the wonderful Marty Feldman as well, so how could it miss? Thanks again mate. I wish you rainbows.

Good riddance to bad rubbish lol , i haven’t heard that for so many years , my dad used to say that a lot in the good ole days when I was a kid in the 60s, holy guacamole, that’s a long time ago lol 😂
I'm too young to have watched this when it was originally shown, but I thoroughly enjoyed the chance to watch something that my parents and grandparents would have watched. Clive Duun's character was clearly a prototype of Corporal Jones :)

I don't know how old this is, but I'm convinced Bootsie and Snudge was the first programme i ever saw on tv. I was born in 1957 so I'm guessing this must be from 1962/63? Isn't TH-cam amazing.
Last time i saw Bill Frazer was in the refurbished Whitehall Theatre late 80's when they put on When we are Married. He was the photographer. They were all in it - Timothy West, Brian Murphy, Patricia Hayes. Great production
My great Uncle Ian Thornburn was once on a train with Alfie Bass in the 1960s. He said Alfie didn’t give a damn about how loudly he passed wind. My great uncle said the whole carriage was very embarrassed, as their was a lot of elderly women present. Bass was reading the Telegraph through each event , and he barely looked up.
Yes, it was a good show in it's day. It was as mentioned previously here a spin off of another famous show the Army Game. Which led to a long career for another famous actor Bernard Bresslaw, He even had a record in the hit parade, " Mad Passionate Love ", which I used to imitate for my party piece at Christmas. Other established stars of the time that were regulars in the Army Game were Michael Medwin and Harry Fowler, along side other recognisable 50's actors. My brother used to have friends in the entertainment business and regularly had drink nights with Alfie Bass, Harry Fowler, Bill Frazer and Clive Dunn, My brother, at the time was the manager of a carpet business in Putney High St. in London and Clive Dunn was a customer and every time he passed the shop he would acknowledge with a wave.
Oh I remember this sooo well, but only after an earlier series containing "Bootsie and Snudge," called, I think, "The Army Game." Even as a child of 9 or 10 I can remember feeling very sorry for Snudge. I think he died soon after...
8:30 It's Henry McGee, of The Benny Hill Show. Checking up, he couldn't have been more than 31 or 32 here. Amazing!! He looked like one of the aliens from Mars Attacks.
Henry McGee hardly looks any different than when he was straight man to Benny Hill over a decade later...and the wonderful Clive Dunn prempting his part as Corporal Jones in Dad's Army almost to the letter. I'd forgotten he was in it. :-)

Clive Dunn specialised in old gents. He can be seen doing them in films and TV things well before Dad's Army.
Cline Dunn even mentions Lord Kitchener and the Sudan in this role too lol
