This is the Fleetwood Mac that really matters the original Fleetwood Mac not the pop garbage they put out the 1970s I am just so glad to have all these videos on TH-cam about the original Fleetwood Mac
I wouldn’t call Rumors garbage. 25 million people disagree with you who bought and enjoy that album. I also like and respect the late Peter Green. He was more blues based. That’s fine that your prefer his music. I like Lindsay Buckinghams folk style fingerpicking and pop/folk rock songs. Peter Green was definitely one of the greats. Lindsays a great player too.
Led Zeppelin's version actually shares more in common with the version recorded by the Small Faces in 1966 than this version. Robert Plant was clearly very influenced by Steve Marriott of the Small Faces.
A recording of a Muddy Waters tune credited to Muddy unlike Led Zeppelin's rip off that they called "Whole Lotta Love"...I had the Muddy Waters 45 of this song and heartily recommend it over even this version.
I don't give two shits about who stole who what in this case. I love Jimmy Page, I love Green/Kirwan; this and "whole Lotta" are amazing sexy blues rock songs. that being said, Green had the more sexual phrasing and damn does he sound good here.
@mmandmm9 - this isn't a Muddy Waters tune. Willie Dixon wrote this, Muddy covers it, but it's actually a Willie Dixon tune, originally performed and written by the Big Bass Player Willie Dixon.
zeppelin copied a few songs...even black mountain side was a ripp off from bert jansch. he didnt take them to court simply because he couldnt afford it, the guitar parts are identical... i love zeppelin but have to give credit to that...
Blues like folk songs often with a hundred or more regional variations are individual version variant, see Barbara Salisbury 183 vids @ TH-cam.com for acoustic tributes and good humour.Chris Young Peace and Love
All blues musicians borrowed from each other. Even on the farms in Mississippi, blues players played each others songs. Some were better song writers, while others had better technical skills and could perform the same song with more cohesiveness.
This is a demo copy that is on a 2020 3CD set called Fleetwood Mac "Before The Beginning" 1968-1970. Peter Green changed the lyrics slightly but never issued the song on a proper LP issue. Peter played the song along with others for Jimmy Page, the rest is history. Great song!
@mullebeb You could find it online, but to be honest it isn't worth it. The best tracks on it are "You Need Love" and "Talk With You", the rest I'm sure you've already heard. If I were you I would just download those tracks from TH-cam and save yourself the time, it's easy really. I do have the London Underway bootleg, if you want I could link you to it so you can download it, pretty good set list, just inbox me and I'll send you the link to my blog. That goes for anybody else who wants it.
aright true the zeppelin version is inspired by willie dixon but plant and zep were really trying to emulate steve marriot and small faces who themselves covered and copied willie dixon .. in any case everyone in one form or another coverd willie dixon
The problem, it seems to me, is not who's first, or better or whatever. The real issue is who collects the songwriting royalties. Small Faces and Fleetwood Mac and I think Savoy Brown all gave credit to Willie Dixon. But the most commercially successful version by Zep took songwriting credit, and to my knowledge Willie Dixon didn't collect royalties from it. Zep did this to other artists as well, not sure how they felt about ripping these other artists off. And full disclosure, Led Zep imho is the greatest rock band ever, just not sure if they are the most ethical. Which is pretty messed up, usually it's the record company or managers who screw over the actual talent.
@@pit2ryan3 And how is the Spirit/Stairway lawsuit going? Also, ironically, didn't Zep have a lawsuit years ago over Stairway to Gilligan's Island? If Spirit wins, does that negate that lawsuit? I think I'm overthinking it, lol
@@pit2ryan3 And I think I read years ago that Small Faces and Yardbirds toured together for awhile and learned the song from them. Can't vouch for the truth of that, but wouldn't surprise me...
Zeppelin is a wonderful band but they have a repetition of copying other artists. They still add some zip to the songs that they copy. This is not about "all blues artists copy others music" this is pure greed when you do not give credit to the original artist.
Not a great Mac song. This heavy riff playing suits Zeppelin, Cream and Hendrix better. Fleetwood Mac were better than this. There’s no trademark Green lick in this or a Kirwan vibrato. No feeling

Ignorant

Robert thought he was a stalker type he followed him around so much
Thanks for such a great copy of this song, just to clear it up both songs You Need Love and Whole Lotta Love are by Willie Dixon, thanks again.
I just shared this again ...just bet that women prefer this voice to Plant's !! Mac Daddy knows how to deliver !!

amen
@yjmsrv It's correct Willie wrote it, but the original recording is by Muddy Waters with Wille on bass. He did not record it himself at the time.
Yes. This is damn good.
@mmandmm9 - this isn't a Muddy Waters tune. Willie Dixon wrote this, Muddy covers it, but it's actually a Willie Dixon tune, originally performed and written by the Big Bass Player Willie Dixon.
Dixon only wrote the words, music by Earl Hooker.
Just great! you cant help but tap your foot hahah
My girlfriend hates me foot tapping!😐
@mullebeb It's from a bootleg called Mean Old World.
@mullebeb Yeah I looked it up and it is the same set.
zeppelin copied a few songs...even black mountain side was a ripp off from bert jansch. he didnt take them to court simply because he couldnt afford it, the guitar parts are identical... i love zeppelin but have to give credit to that...
It is common knowledge Willie Dixon attached his name to other folks compositions; who is to say he never stole it!
what's the difference ? it's not Zeps song either way

It was an instrumental by Earl Hooker, lyrics by Willie Dixon, vocals by Muddy Waters.
where is this from anybody - great post
and who did Willie Dixon steal it from?
Earl Hooker
Tobby Witherspoon, a Mississippi cotton picker.

Wow... Never heard this before... ;oP
Does anybody know what album this is on.
I love this band the best blues ever.
I'm Seeing the man in a couple of weeks and i
can't wait.

Pretty sure it's from a BBC session though they call it a demo.
I need love!!!!!!!

Still have it?
Is Cat's Squirrel considered a rip off too ?

jacob katz - The Small Faces covered it, Led Zeppelin stole it...
@@marvingreen3273 - Now the Led Zeppelin version is credited to Willie Dixon too, because the Zeps lost the case...

sounds like hendrix is signing on this one
You can see how Led ripped off Willie Dixon.
En este cóver se evidencia más el plagio de Led Zeppelin al tema de Muddy. Debemos honrar a quienes honores merecen! Viva Muddy!!!
Music is all about imitation, and subsequent innovation. Talk about "who was first" and "cultural appropriation" is nonsense.
Conan the Barbarian - So "All Along The Watchtower" is a Hendrix song, isn't it? Or is it Dylan's?

Shows how derivatiove Lez Zep was.
