- Join me on a spine-chilling adventure as I explore the infamous McPike Mansion by day and night! Nationally known for its eerie history and ghostly sightings, this abandoned mansion is a hotspot for paranormal enthusiasts. In this video, I delve into the dark, dilapidated corners of McPike Mansion, uncovering tales of its haunted past and the spirits said to roam its halls.
Will I encounter any supernatural phenomena? Whether or not, the mansion's cobwebbed atmosphere can be enough to send shivers down most spines - including NFL player Mike Ford Jr. from the Houston Texans, who grew up nearby and shared his childhood memories of the neighborhood's most haunted house.
This video is part two of a three part adventure, diving into the haunted history of Alton, Illinois. Watch and see if I can uncover the truth behind its reputation as America's most haunted town!

It's for sure haunted! Went on a tour and it scared the crap out of me! I lived a mile from it. I also cared for the owners for a short time home care! If you wanna crazy tour around Halloween, its the go to place!!
No, no it's not. I also live in Alton. I'm less than a mile from McPike. I even grew up with the Luedke's going all the way back when they lived on Pearl Street in Godfrey. That was around 1993. It's 100% not haunted. I've been there more times than I can count on my fingers and toes. If you were "scared to death," you were overreacting. In other words, self-inflicted fear. Ive even done stupid stuff in there. Like making pentagrams out of salt and trying a seance. I tried believing in the hype. At the end of the day, it's just hype.
I love the kitty cat 🐈⬛ roaming the property❤😊
Me too. There were a few! All very curious & friendly.
You remind me so much of Victoria Jackson from Sat. Night Live, your looks, voice and manner of speaking. This is my first time watching your show. It was quite enjoyable.
Wow, thank you! Glad you enjoyed 👻
I was thinking she looked so familiar. When you said the actresses name, it clicked. You are spot on.
Wow this is so cool. I live a town over from this place. I used to beg my dad ALL THE TIME to take me by the scary mansion when I was a little girl. I’ve been inside 3 times and probably have driven by a million times. 😂 It’s definitely haunted!! It’s nice to see it being fixed up.
Yeah, I’ve seen some of the old photos of the place falling apart. Glad they saved it!
A valiant effort! And that mist was kinda spooky . . . thanks for the shout-out!
thank YOU!
Enjoyed the video! We love Alton and there are so many fascinating spots to explore there, especially the grounds of McPike! The Bluff City Grill is a great spot to eat, too. Thank you sharing this experience with us!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'll have to eat there when I attend the conference again next year.
Looking forward to part 3!
Should be up in early Dec! Im working on a Salem episode now and have been a bit slammed on my day job 🙃
That’s a beautiful haunted house, the tour looked like fun. I love what he said at the end about Alton being haunted enough without making things up. Excellent video!
Thank goodness someone one bought this house, I know it needs a lot of work, the outside of the mansion looks very lovely.
I can’t believe this place is still standing! Showed up on plenty of ghost shows in the 90’s! 👻 Lots of other haunts in Alton. Happy Haunting 👋
Yeah, I’d say barely standing on the inside! But they’re trying to fix & preserve what they can. Did you grow up nearby?
@@the_ghost_tourist No, East Coast NJ. Just watched a lot of ghost shows. McPike showed up on Scariest Places on Earth 2001. 👻 Then I think even Zak Bagins showed up.
@@samanthab1923 I grew up in East Coast NJ!
@@the_ghost_tourist No way! Matawan & then Holmdel in 7th grade. Lots of old houses but ours was new. Didn’t hear of any ghosts or haunted spots back then. 70’s. I’m in PA now. Our house is on the ghost tour 👻
That's fun! I grew up in Smithville (near AC).
I really enjoy your channel. Your videos are well done and keeps me interested.
Awesome, thank you!
THAT VOICE,
GETS MY JUICE'S GOING !!!!
its probably not added in, and im just crazy either way this video is amazing and I can't belive I finally found a good investigation from this place
I kid you not I live like 10 minutes away from the McPike Mansion, I love haunted videos, and when sam and colby came to alton I turned in to a paranormal fan boy, because I was like I've been there so many times, not knowing someday one of my faveriot TH-camrs, sam and colby were going to investigate, I need to rewatch the video
Yeah, those guys are fun to watch!
“In 1869, this place was extravagant.” At 16 rooms, it is still extravagant.
Also, the junk pile as you drive up to the home seems classically Alton.
🤣
Once rented a room out of an old 1890s mansion at the end of a dead end street in Alton not too far from McPike, drove by it every day for 4 months. Many of the old houses in the area are "fixer uppers" but bc it is a historic neighborhood the outsides of them are the only thing being maintained semi regularly.
Did you think it was haunted? Ever see anything in the windows?
@@the_ghost_tourist I haven't seen anything. I wouldn't count it out for being haunted, there is a lot of natural energy in the area with the river and fault line, and the extensive abandoned mine system. (see Gordon Moore Park sinkhole)
@@myu2k2 That's an active mine system, not abandoned.
Well, I'll be! It looks fantastic now! I was there 8years ago in July and there wasn't windows on most of the house and the back stairs entrance was nearly fully collapsed. The people next door who were the owners let us walk around it and take pictures. They just so happend to be burning yard waste outside when we drove by and let s go wander.
Yeah, glad they’re trying to save it!
@27:57 in this video an article is shown that reads (quoting directly from the screen here) "From Prison to Parking Lot. The Alton Military Prison closed July 7, 1865 when the last prisoners were released or sent to St. Louis. The buildings were torn down over the next twenty years until only a small remnant of the cell block remained. Stone from the prison buildings is found in walls and other structures all over the Alton area." and "The remnant of the cell block was moved to its present location in 1970 when the lot was paved for Con Agra Company parking." so . . . why is it that a building being built before 1974 means it can't have stone from the prison in it? Mcpike was built in 1869 so it could theoretically contain the blocks though I am unaware of any evidence supporting this. Rumors of the prison site being haunted have been traced back to news paper articles before 1900 . . . so . . . a tv show definitely didn't start that. perhaps they exaggerated it for the sake of drama, they are certainly known to do that, but this gentleman's dismissal is wildly inaccurate.
Totally, hear you and always open for debate with these things. I read a lot of articles talking about the hauntings at the old prison as well. I'm not a local - so I deferred to Troy Taylor on this one, who wrote the book, "Haunted Alton." He definitely agrees that the prison was haunted, but refuted the claims that some of the other buildings - like the McPike - where haunted because of the limestone. In the case of the McPike, they are also very sensitive with what's been said about the house ever since "Ghost Adventures" arrived and claimed it was built with cursed stones and filled with demons. But I do see your point about it being possible for hauntings in other locations.
May eternal rest grant unto them O Lord.
I was there with a friend in 2000, not too long after Sharyn opened up the house to visitors. The structural repairs are so good to see and I have hope that, someday, it will be restored in the way that Sharyn wants it to be.
I’m not much for the party atmosphere of the “ghost hunting” crowds that seem to be having a great time BUT I will say that the wine cellar of the mansion is the only place I have seen something that I absolutely cannot explain. The gatherings in the cellar were different in 2000. Rather than chairs and a leader who conducted the session, it was Sharyn and whoever happened to be in there at the time (in my case, about 8-10 people). We stood in a circle, held hands and then (much to my dismay), sang a little song - “spirits of the light, won’t you come out tonight…” I did, indeed, roll my eyes. I really hated that part. It was truly pitch black in the cellar. Absolutely no light, from any source.
Shortly after that, our backs became ice cold, while our front sides remained warm. Then, one by one, three extremely pale and blueish white ….I don’t know what to call them….mists, maybe?….began to weave in and out of the circle, down by our legs, then up around our arms. I thought I was seeing things but my friend also saw and mentioned them, at the time. To this day, I can’t think of anything that could have caused the phenomenon. Not that it’s certain it was a “spirit”, but it’s something for which I can’t find an answer - at least, not with our current understanding of science.
And, on a side note, there is a photo of what appears to be a woman with a Gibson Girl hairstyle, peeking out from one of the upper story windows, that has been seen on a couple of the shows highlighting the mansion. Oddly enough, I took that photo. I didn’t even remember taking it and, when a producer for one of the shows (Ghost Lab, I think?…..it was years ago) emailed me, I told them they must be mistaken. Then, the producer shared a note that I had sent Sharyn back in 2000, along with a copy of the photo. In order to use it on the show, I had to sign off on it. So, of course I did. If I couldn’t even remember it, I certainly wasn’t going to complain if someone used it. I very well might have the negative in a box down in my basement.
Thanks for a great video - you brought back some great memories! I’m so glad the cats are still hanging around the mansion. A friendly bunch they were, when I was there (though I’m sure they are several generations removed at this point)>
Wow, what an incredible experience! Thank you for sharing. I would've preferred a much smaller crowd as well, but singing in the dark sounds more scary for sure.
Excellent Thumbnail
What a shame it was left abandoned and things taken. People have no respect.
Yeah, it’s so sad to see these beautiful historical homes fall to ruin.
Thanks for the jump scare of the doll in the rocking chair😶
Old dolls are so creepy!
I love how the cat comes to greet you.
I take it there was no kids around, so the child laughing evp is extra creepy
Yeah, the cat was following us around! And I’m still surprised by that weird laughing sound, we only picked it up once. Always seems to happen when you’re not expecting it.
The bldgs at Jefferson Barrscks are supposedly haunted.
9:29 It's a bird.
9:18 time stamp, i love this video, no hate, great content, but am I crazy or was that just a minion from Despicable me, it sounded like it was added in, but again no hate, thought it was more funny then anything.
I know! It’s such a weird sound. I thought maybe it was a bird or something. I still have no idea what it was.
Went there for a ghost tour at the mansion and saw a dark shadow and also got touch on my right elbow before they shut the lights off and no one was sitting next to me
Any guess on what spirit you think it may have been?
i’ve been on the tour!! i did see orbs couldn’t tell if i was jsut seeing stuff or not, me and my friends were the youngest there (we were 15) and the owner said that the kids really would like us, and they did!!!
You were a brave 15 year old!
I've lived here my entire life. First and foremost, it's "AL-BEE" Alby, NOT "ALL-BEE"! Secondy, I've been to McPike by myself, with groups and girlfriends dozens of times. I've been there during the day, in the evening, and the devils hour. Before renovations and after... Not once have I seen, heard, or felt any ghosts. My mother is Wiccan, She calls herself a witch. She claims to do magic, and she talks to the dead through tarot. With all that said, there are no spirts/ghosts there. Anyone who claims there is needs to seek medical attention.

*@the_ghost_tourist *Just tried again, but I don't think it went through this time, either.*
It's haunted, but it's far from the most haunted. My house is far more actively haunted than McPike. Truth is this entire area has numerous haunted houses.
What’s it like living in a haunted house?
@@the_ghost_tourist honestly, there are times its completely normal, times it's odd and times it's almost terrifying. But overall after living here for a little over a year now, I'd say it's mostly annoying. Like very very annoying. It seems kind of cool from the outside looking in but when you deal with an invisible roommate that you never know when they're gonna pop up or where, it just becomes annoying.
@@mrrooster4876 yeah, I'm curious to visit haunted places, but not sure I'd want to live in one!
it appears my comments are being deleted. . .
I don't think so? Just replied to your previous comment.
@@the_ghost_tourist probably TH-cam being funny then. should be three other posts by me.
