  • You can find a tutorial for any move you can think of, but seldom do we focus on the details of defending the basketball. Close outs are when defenders are most vulnerable, and being able to do so efficiently can truly separate a player as a defender.

    Pro tip: when closing out fake a jump mad stay on the ground...offensive player usually pump fakes when they see ur approach and then cuz ur still on the ground u can swipe at the ball on the way dwn

    Great tips, thanks for the vid! I'm a sub. Just want to add that you can close out fast and hard on a shooter (who's actually shooting) but stop right before you get to them. Getting in their shooting space w/o fouling will 9/10 throw off the shot. Hands up is of course vital here but just having such little space between u guys (no contact so no foul) will make them very uncomfortable, especially in the air!

    On a Kawhi breakdown video of yours, I believe you pointed out that he chooses the hand to oppose to the other player when defending someone attacking the rim and on close-outs. This can be useful to better contest sometimes depending on which side of your body is toward, and also it can be easier to deflect a pass from the shooter contested.

  • @dylopillow

    Would like to add on that for right handed shooters: close out with your left arm raised and vice versa for left handed shooters. Also, chopping your feet quickly on a hard close out lowers the chance of running into and fouling the shooter and/or getting faked out and having them drive to the basket.

    Closing out at a different angle is extremely difficult to play against when done effectively

  • @markhathaway9456
    @markhathaway9456 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How the close-out is played depends a lot on whether you have help defense. Knowing whether to rush the close-out depends on which shooter has the ball and whether their shot is the weakest thing you can give up. Knowing whether to stay very close to the shooter or staying back and trusting the close-out to bother them. If they can go past you, then staying in their face may be too much, but if they are the kind of player who dribbles before shooting then staying close could disrupt their pattern and rhythm. Ideal is to jump to land beside them, so if they don't shoot at first you will be there for a second go at them. Jumping to cross in front of their vision and land on the other side of them could be very effective. Right hand to block their right hand puts most of your body away from theirs, but if you crossed in front of them it's a big visual distraction. Proper footing for your personal jumping skills could make you ready to make a close-out or just dead on your heels waiting for him to jump over your or drive by. Strategy and personal skills both play a big role.

    • @Chandasouk

      @@ByAnyMeansBasketball Well the last resort if you gotta close out from far away is a fly by. If the shooter is right handed, you run straight towards their right side and contest with the right hand to avoid collision. Chopping your feet is done when you are closer or halfway from the shooter from what I was taught as a kid.
      You also cherry picked footage to demonstrate poor closeouts so it makes sense why you didnt see them lol

    God doesn’t want anybody in hell because He loves us, but you must understand why we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go there. He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteous, but rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). We’re not sinners because we sin, but rather we sin because we’re sinners. Sin is the nature of our flesh that we are born with due to the sin of Adam in the garden. For someone to be justified before God they have to be sinless. We’ve all sinned (Romans 3:23), and the the law demands death for those who sin (Romans 6:23). God is righteous, so He must punish our sin, which is what He did through His Son Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus is Holy and sinless, yet He received our sin when He died on the cross, so that we can be righteous before God (2 Corinthians 5:21). When He died on the cross, He said “It is finished” (John 19:30), which means He paid the full price for all of your sins (past, present, and future) to be forgiven. He was buried and rose again from the dead. God will forgive anybody who puts their full trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. We aren’t saved based on our good deeds, but only by the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). His precious blood that He shed is the only reason why we can be forgiven of our sins (Hebrews 9:22). If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, then you’ll be saved (Romans 10:9). You are born-again with the Spirit of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), and are not only legally justified before God, but also are accredited His righteous (Romans 4:24). Believers live for Christ now, so get to know Him through His Word. I recommend reading the book of Romans and the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), and watching Pastor Joseph Prince’s online sermons
