I think they changed the mannerisms for the Tamil movie. So it cannot be compared.The actor has taken a mannerisms of naturally scared individual who gets even more scared with the situation while Malayalam has a bold character.Watch from the beginning of movie. I have heard jeethu saying about changing the mannerisms of the character on kamal Hassan’s insistence. he probably didn’t listen to jeethu at all . Jeethu probably didn’t say anything for sake of doing a kamal movie.
Yes, the personality of the leading character (played by Kamal) was changed due to Kamal's insistence. Georgekutty's character hides his emotions inside and he doesn't feel guilty for what happened to Varun in Drishyam. But with Kamal's character, the character was changed to an emotional character filled with fear and strong guilt since he and his family feel guilty for the death of Varun. This contradicted with the film's plot-line since such a person with strong guilt won't be able to replace the body of Varun with an animal in the compost pit and they won't be able to survive the attacks of Perumal either.

He feels guilty for the death of the boy, but his family comes first. It makes perfect sense to me. Infact I liked this character better than george kutty, who behaved like he has done this a thousand times...he was too calm.

The film is judged by the quality of the script, performances, etc. Papanasam does contradict, because a person controlled by fear and guilt will not be able to overcome the situation. Kamal's character is also an over-emotional character who has no control over his emotions. That is why you see him cry couple of times in the film. Yes, he tried to protect his family. But at the same time, he is filled with guilt and fear. In film, you see Kamal's character having no control of his emotions, fear, and guilt in couple of occasions. That's why he says to Varun's parents at the end that he wanted to come and apologize thousand times. But he didn't have the courage. Georgekutty is capable of controlling his emotions. With Georgekutty, he and his family don't feel guilty for what happened to Varun. But they do feel sad about his parents. That is why they are able to overcome the situation.
Thats just because ur a malayalee.. kamal hassan has done it perfectly ..u need to understand the nature of ppl in the part of tamil nadu .. and difference between the ppl in iddukki ..

In this story kamal is a tension party. So his acting is perfect.
