The door encounter in stream is *twelve minutes* of the three of them failing to open a door that wasn’t even locked, just barred on the inside, and it cost them three spell slots. And it’s STILL absolutely hilarious.
And let's not forget that they also took damage in the process! xD
And Liam rolled a NATURAL 20 to pick the non-existent lock

A friendly reminder that at this point in the game, Vax has Reliable Talent, Expertise in Thieve's Tools AND the Lucky feat, yet still struggled with that damned door while being helped by someone who could give Bardic Inspiration.
Truly the most epic battle of campaign 1.
In the game, Liam rolled a nat 20 umprompted, to which matt responded "There is no lock". The method to open the door was a strength check, using a sword as a lever to lift the wooden bar blocking the door.

Plus Matt’s variant natural 1 rule had a way of nerfing skill and ability checks sometimes.

I screamed when she walked over to the tree, and my teenagers (they love the show but have not seen the campaign) now think I'm insane. Okay they think mom is more insane than usually.
Chances of getting Matthew Mconaughey to actually do the Sun Tree voice acting? Not high........but it would be full circle epic.

Doors have always been Vox Machina's worst nemesis. Not even No Mercy Percy can overcome them.
But the very next lock.. plink.. easy. That's so every freakin' game.
campaign 1 was doors, campaign 2 was chairs, now we're back to doors with campaign 3...
@@alexspear2145 I don't know, there was only one really annoying door whereas a table nearly KO'd one of the characters (can't remember who).
He can and does. Later in the campaign, Percy walks up to a door and just shoves it and it opens wide to a pitch black room. Percy is the only one in the party at that point that does not have some form of darkvision, so all he can see is darkness before him.
Grog- Whadaya see, Percy?
Percy (without missing a beat)- I see a door that I have conquered.

@@wholesome_masochist4113 no one has seen the eyes yet and they already briefly discussed the topic in episode 4 (but left it be pretty fast because they all know trauma and didn't want to pressure him). But as far as I remember, it will probably become a point of discussion again

The guy voicing Stonefell in the animation (Darin De Paul) is actually a guest much later in C1. I love his character there!
Best guest out of all the critical role campaigns in my book.
@@brandontaylor3252 Patrick Rothfuss as Kerrek might give him a run for his money, but when consider the fact De Paul played the same character back in the day with Matt's mom, it just makes his appearance more special.
I've just watched dozens of reaction shows to TLoVM episodes 1-6, and I just wanted to let y'all know you're my favorites. Your chemistry and reactions are what makes it very successful, and enjoyable to watch. Keep watching, and I'll be there along with you. And Adam absolutely has to cosplay as Percy.

I absolutely lost it on the "I fell out of the window" part. Funniest part in the entire series so far for me.
The doors in Whitestone were *infamous* for being entirely impossible for them to get through. Like, three spells later plus one of them took damage to get a not locked door open. It was amazing.

I've been going down quite the rabbit hole of watching reaction videos to The Legend of Vox Machina. You guys show such joy and enthusiasm and have by far the most amazing facial expressions! I'm getting some much joy out of watching your reaction videos. Definitely gonig to watch (and like) the whole series.
Oh MAN, Adam's expression during Percy's encounter with Stonefell was AMAZING!!!
It's hilarious how perfectly Adam matches Taliesin when it comes to play style. The thing they get most excited about is pulling off some crazy badass shit and saving the day. I'd be really curious to see a personality study about what draws us to a specific archetype, because everyone seems to fall into one of a handful of styles.
I wonder if Pike is going to regain her abilities and absolutely nuke the Brierwoods.
My favorite thing about watching peoples reaction videos that aren't familiar with campaign one is that they are all coming to love Percy as a character. Where the first two episodes everyone is kind of indifferent about him as a character and then episode 3 hits and they are shocked cause that's how it happened in the campaign. Percy went from being this quiet, cool and collected character to absolutely losing it and it shocked everyone even the rest of the cast.

I have wondered if they ar going that route too. I think Pike is going to come back at the perfect moment and wreck Lady Brierwood (since she made the comment she was a pest).
I wanted to add a correction that's hopefully not a spoiler. You said 1 down 5 to go, but (though this is still unconfirmed in the animation) The Pepperbox in the game only had 5 names on it and the last barrel was blank. I always found that chillingly ominous.
Anyway, only 4 people to go.
Not sure if you guys have realized it yet because you haven't mentioned it, but the intro song is an orchestrated version of "Your Turn To Roll" which was the theme song for campaign 2 for a majority of it.
I love what you guys have going on. I had never seen any of your content before yesterday, but I have now subscribed. I see lots of past content from you that I plan on checking out.

So, Percy is my favourite character, not just in this campaign but overall. And seeing Adam's face when No Mercy Percy shows up is amazing, I probably looked just as delighted (I may have said the lines too because I know this arc too well) and I hope we get to witness more of the absolute badassery that is Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III in the next batch of episode.

Note: Revifivy and Ressurection are both Necromancy in D&D 3.5e-5e for a reason. oh, and hearing you both talk about your campaigns is amazing!
I feel it is necromancy because it brings back the dead. It is not as undead but still makes them come back. So technically still dealing with dead people
I mean, I get why it is Evocation in 5e, for the same reason Cure Wounds and such are, but yeah...
@@jw__11 Revivify: 3rd Level Necromancy. Resurrection: 7th level Necromancy. NOWHERE in its spell description from 2ae to 5.4e is it described as "Conjuration (Healing)" . The reason is, Healing Spells as usually blocked of from Necromancers, BUT since they are both Neceomancy Spells, In Theory, A powerful Necromancer could figure out how to cast them. This opened the door for Blackmail opportunities, and Cassandra being alive.

@@jw__11 It's the reason Matt made Resurrection and revivify more difficult to use, since it's a world where Necromancy of any kind defies the will of the gods, even if you convince one or two gods to agree.

Ah, yes, when dice hate you:
I, a 4th level half-orc fighter, stepped on tanglefoot/alchemical fire trap and failed the save to avoid it. So I was there, rooted to the ground, on fire, for 5 turns in a row (couldn't make a strength check even with having 20 in strength). I also didn't have anything sharp to cut myself free (my weapon of choice was a warhammer) so the rogue tossed me his dagger and... rolled a 1 which DM interpreted as the dagger stabbing me in the arm (after me failing a Dex save as well).
Funny enough, rolling my character and upon level ups I was extremely lucky with HP rolls (10, 10, 9 and 10 on a d10 with a +3 Con modifier). By level 4 I had 50+ HP which was more than all my party members (rogue/wizard, bard and cleric, each either going with average or rolling poorly) COMBINED.
So me stepping into the trap actually WAS the lucky part too because after those 5 turns, 30ish fire and 5ish piercing damage (thank Gruumsh I rules lawyered that it didn't count as sneak attack as I WAS expecting the incoming dagger, just not with the blade leading the way), I was still relatively ok in double digits. Any of my buddies would have been DEAD with no resurrection options (cleric only got his revivify at level 5).
With the DMs permission I was henceforth known as Mordring the Charred.
Fire traps still give me flashbacks, both in tabletop and in videogames but damn I would so much wish to see all that craziness animated. Critical Role cast members are the blessed ones, indeed.

During my first campaign on my second session I spent the entire time as a sand bag being dragged around the map clinging to life.
I'm going to SyFy Bartow (Florida) in a couple of weeks and I really hope there are some Vox Machina cosplayers, particularly Percy.
Speaking of rolls not going your way, just yesterday in our game we were sneaking into a warehouse and I rolled nat 1s twice trying to climb a rope into a window and again trying to run and jump into the window from the roof next door and lost a bunch of hit points. And yet I rolled really well on my stealth so the guards didn't notice. It wasn't my best moment

Doors are the BBEG of the Vox Machina campaign
3 spell slots and 4 points of damage to open a door. Also, if you count the shots Percy took at Stonefell, he shot 7 times from a 6-barrel gun. Animation mistake, choice to not show the reload, or fun foreshadowing- you decide!

In the camaign when they tried to open that door it was even worse. I think Scanlan spent all of his spell slots trying to open it.

Not a big spoiler but just a fun thing build wise for the character. It was at this point that we found out that Percy’s player had take magic initiate (warlock) and had gotten hex which was flavored as black smoke.
Adam… you scared me?! You’ll make an awesome Percy cosplay.
