But that's kinda lame that he's never in danger himself. He's too bs strong, no matter who he fights, you know he's never gonna lose, even when he's literally in the open field with 5 Titans sprinting at him and he has only one pair of blades left. I mean, how does he even not run out of blades or gas while doing all those crazy spinning cuts and zooming around the enemy like a blur? Other soldiers broke their blades by simply cutting Titan's fingers, yet he literally performs a judgement cut on Beast Titan's hardened skin and his blades are still somehow intact. That's why I don't like him, he's too bs op for this setting, you never have to worry about him

Marlo's death is defenitly up there for one of the more sad ones. When Marlo saw his own death inevetiably coming, his last thoughts were about Hitch. A little detail most people miss, for almost the entire show Erwin refers to himself as using the term "Watashi" which is how you refer to yourself if you are a respected person or speaking formally. Then when he sits down with Levi and talks about how he really feels, he all of a sudden refers to himself using the term "Ore" which is the "normal" or non formal way of referring to yourself. Such a little but amazing detail showing us how his vulnerability in that exact moment even changes the way he speaks.

      You almost got it.
      Watashi = formal

A magnificent parallel between Erwin and Armin in these two episodes. Hats off to the writer for this.
Both were the commanders of their squads at the end. Both were the brains behind the muscle. Both had a dream they had been following all their lives. Both realised the hopelessness of the situation before anyone else. But unlike everyone else, both pushed through their fear and thought up a way to win. Both entrusted their strong, powerful and hotheaded friend with their dreams and sent them to assassinate their foes using a sneak attack at the expense of their own lives. Both were undisputed GOATS. One was supposed to follow the other in leadership. Both went out like Heroes and achieved a Perfect Game for their side, somewhat.

Also, I like the perfect game analogy, but I really think Isayama was only referring to Zeke's baseball hobby lmao, especially because that was the name of the previous episode where everything was set up for the opposing side to win, with Zeke, Reiner, and Bert, all set to complete their objective perfectly with no way out for the scouts, aka a perfect game.

The last conversation that happens between Erwin and Levi is easily one of the greatest moments of this show. It's a genius piece of writing. The line “Give up your dream and die” sounds like the worst possible thing you could say to a friend. But once you go deeper in on it, it turns into an expression of deep respect and devotion. They both knew Erwin’s sacrifice was the only way to take down the Beast Titan and come out of this situation victorious on the brink of defeat. Erwin’s entire purpose of living was in his arm's reach. Then he gets left with the hardest of all choices, does he betray his friends and the future of mankind for his personal desire or does he sacrifice himself and his long dream to give the Survey Corps a winning chance?
Erwin has been full of guilt and ashamed for the pursuit of his dream at the cost of all the men and women who have followed him and died under his command, especially him being the one reason that his own father got killed. “And upon a mountain of their corpses I now stand”.
He questions whether all of these people died for nothing else but his own selfish desire to avenge his own father. Levi knows about Erwin’s conflict. so he is the one who decides to break the chain of command by making the choice for Erwin, which means he takes over and decides to carry his burden. Telling him to let go of his dream and die is exactly what Erwin needs to hear at that moment. Deep down Erwin already knew that he should of abandoned his dream a long time ago in order to rid himself of the overwhelming feeling of guilt he has and die with a clear sense of right.
Ordering a man he respects beyond everything to sacrifice himself is an incredibly painful experience for Levi, but it’s the only way to guarantee that Erwin can rest in peace. It's tragic but what Levi said and did was the best choice that he could have made in such a desperate situation. It’s an act of the utmost respect on Levi’s part.
Erwin died for humanity and was a hero. He died as one of the greatest commanders ever and as the GOAT, hell even i would give my life up for him if i heard his speech right there and then.
In the end, AOT managed to turn the line “Give up your dream and die” into a touching moment of devotion and deep respect between two friends.

I read this in the manga before the anime aired and I remember reading every single panel again and again, as if I were expecting it to change somehow. There are so many scenes in these two episodes that deserve awards for best writing that each one takes significance off the other.
From Erwin’s monologue to Levi pouring out his heart to him leading the recruits straight into hell and giving up on his dream to Armin saying “im sure Eren will reach the sea for me” after waking him up by the ruse of looking at the sea, we all choked on our damn tears as many times as we rewatched.
The emotional impact of these scenes was so much that we keep forgetting these episodes had two of the best action sequences sandwiched between these layers of emotional trauma.
All I can say is, thank you Isayama for writing this masterpiece.
And to Cannon and Carter, keep hanging in there bros. If you think this is the last time this show has turned the story on it’s head, you’re deeply mistaken.

These are the episodes I’ve been waiting for you to react to the most. These two and the next one make an unforgettable trilogy, they’re so good that all three of them are in the Top 3 of the highest rated Anime episodes on IMDb! This is truly the greatest TV arc of all time.
These two episodes not only included three of my favorite moments of the series, but they’re also just so incredibly sad and emotional. This is actually the first time I saw Carter cry in an AoT reaction, but it’s so relatable. No matter how many times I see that end scene of episode 16 with Erwin’s sacrificial charge or that memory of Armin after he got turned to ashes by the Colossal Titan in episode 17, I always get very emotional and shed tears. And I even cried just now simply watching a reaction video to these moments, that’s how hard they hit! I also really like how Cannon is so frustrated that he doesn’t say a thing until Levi’s epic fight with the Beast Titan.
But I think the next episode will be even harder for you to watch. You might need to prepare yourself with some tissue, because the next one might make you cry even more. At least I did when I watched it for the first time.

In episode 17 20:39 , seeing how Armin being drained out of his flesh and blood is heavy and unbearable and AOT team know that, for this reason they moved us quickly after this hard scene to a scene of finishing Reiner trying to decrease the depression we felt after watching Armin and giving us a little hope or joy with finishing one of the threats. Not only that but continue with the MAGNIFICENT moment that we all waited since first episode which is Eren beating the colossal titan and to make it perfect he did that NOT with his titan form but with his human form
Then they bring us back to depression mood seeing how Armin ended but this time we felt (RIP Armin your sacrifice didn't go in vain)
22:07 Carter you are not alone, we cried too & couldn't hold it with that flashback

Yes. Ep17 is an emotional roller coaster and they did that so well. We wouldn't get emotional shifting extremely this fast in a good way in other shows, so it's one of a rare emotions and that's why it sticks in audiences' hearts. Moreover, our brain would stop thinking logically and can't predict what will happen. The writer knows how to tease us

I felt wicked emotional watching these episodes. Erwin's voice actors in both Japanese and English gave everything they had into their roles and the final speech he gives always gives me chills no matter how many times I've seen it in dubbed or subbed.
Armin was such a good character too it was hard seeing him go out like this. I still have no words for it. But he did it for Eren and as Armin said, he didn't run even from Bertholdt.
