Having been around all manner of livestock for decades I can say this is a clean and caring facility! Some people with absolutely no understanding of chicks, read Petra, made a "want to be" negative comment. The fact is simple, if the chicks are not in close contact with each other, they will die. The reason they will die is because when they are so small as they are as newborns, they cannot generate enough heat to survive! Also, when you give them more room, guess what, they huddle together instead of spreading out! Their instincts tell them to group up tight as new chicks. When they get older and more able to tolerate less than perfect conditions of warmth, then they start to spread out, then they need more space and use more space, but not until then. As for chicks dying in shipment, every time I have had that happen, I can see it is because of the post office doing something stupid of uncaring. That has only happened a few times and I have ordered a lot of chickens over the years.
Petra Ral, the chicks spent 21 days in an egg which is much smaller than what they're in. The fact that you're a chicken owner means that you shouldn't be so ignorant. Also, chicks need to be warm so being close to other chicks is a good thing. Are you sure that shipment of dead chicks was form Cackle Hatchery? I've accidently stepped on my EE chick when she was days old and she grew up perfectly fine and lays almost everyday.
I've never purchased from here before. I've tried a few other Hatcheries before. I was going to try Cackle Hatchery. Got some added to the cart. Until I came and saw this video... I didn't want to buy from it because of the way they package the chicks at 1:48
+kayangthaoo Most hatcheries package there chicks similar to us. We have to pack them according to the weather. It may look like it is rough but it really isn't. I am sorry about this though we will work towards bettering our packaging.
Very much dissapointed by the lack of care for the babies - they throw them as an object - by the poor organising of the factory and the lack of good maintenance practices - old incubators, a bit rusty, paint chips, etc. Also was shocked by the desks of the customer support operators, such a mess = we do not know how to clean. Also was surprised that the owner does not respect the good hygiene practices, working in outdoor clothes. Sir, pathogens coming from the boss are not different than the ones workers bring in! How do you create a hygienic space if you work in the outdoor shoes and clothes? In one word: for a factory standard, the practices are quite dissapointing!!!!! GHP, GMP, 5 S need to be reinforced STARTING WITH THE OWNER!!!!!
That is absolutely awful! I couldn't get through the first three minutes seeing how poorly you and your staff treats those poor babies! They're living creatures, and you're keeping them in close quarters, throwing them into crates, no wonder a shipment of chicks to a store near my town came in 75% DEAD. You people have no regard for those chicks' lives! (yes I'm a liberal, and a chicken owner)
