Dude you cant come to our city, light it on fire, and not offer a clinic or workshop for all of us drummers! Great work, by far the coolest thing to hit the Pour House.
John Shaw when other instruments are taking solos are they not supported by others in the band? Why would that definition change when it comes to drums. This definition for soloing has ALWAYS been used throughout music history
@@Jordarr8994 Not with drums. Generally, until about 1971 or so, drummers soloed by themselves. That changed with the advent of fusion, where they started having the band play vamps or hits behind drummers, and I think it was because audiences unfamiliar with jazz disliked drum solos. My personal belief is that having the other instruments play detracts from the drummer and makes it harder to focus on what he is doing.

Nah it keeps the beat and provides context to understand and really hear the phrasing in relation to the 1 beat...drum 'solos' that are just noodling and throwing fills together like a collage with no 1 beat are mids. Maison is a true master, such a pleasure to watch. 🙏

He's awesome, but in a drum solo, no other instruments would be playing. This is a drum feature, not a drum solo.

That's funny. Billy Cobham playing on Juicy with musical help was called a "solo". Really? lol...someone's being picky.
