Xenoblade X might be my top favourite game of all time, the only thing it was missing was more main story content... and then they announced a definitive edition with more story content... just wow
I remember flying out to the edges of the map and finding a skell-sized superboss out there. There really is everything out there for people who enjoy really exploring open worlds.
So excited to play Xenoblade Chronicles X for the first time on Switch (docked, I want to be immersed which isn't happening in handheld mode)! Been waiting years for this! Only Xenoblade game I haven't played yet.
Ha, I’m the opposite of you, I guess. I’m more immersed with handhelds, and I like the portability. The idea of playing XCX on the go is pretty damn exciting to me. Been waiting years to see this game on the Switch. It was my favorite game on the Wii U. I hope you enjoy the game when it releases.
I weirdly enough barely ever took the thing outside, but I never had it docked even once. The only times I used the dock were as a stand for my tablet to film Switch gameplay(Yes, the very oldschool method).
Everyday I look on YT for XCX from different people, talking about rumours or the gameplay and I'm like a little kid, counting the days down like with a Christmas calendar. Although I only bought a 2nd hand Wii U console and game in 4 years ago, I, like countless others, cannot wait to explore Mira again with better character effects and touched up graphics. For anyone that's never played it before, and like exploring every nook and cranny, you're just going to LOOOOVE this game.
I always play with most of thr hud turned off. The neat thing is that exploration becomes a lot of fun without the mini-map because we still have the hover cam and follow ball mechanics to immersively replace the lack of map.
The area with the superboss you found is one of the best spots to farm endgame weapons. If you can make a build that can efficiently kill the small monsters without aggroing Pharsis, that is.
I’ve felt this way ever since playing xc:DE back in 2021, but I think xenoblade’s world has always served to better incentivize exploration than botw’s. The landscapes being more interesting points out locations to intrigue players, limited mobility actually forces the player to explore to figure out how to navigate those areas of interest, high level enemies also serve to boost intrigue and incentive backtracking, and each areas map needing to be gradually filled out makes you want to walk through every nook and cranny. Possible quests, the landmarks, treasures/loot, and unique monsters serve as adequate rewards for said exploration. I genuinely don’t know what else you could ask for to make it better
Xenoblade Chronicles X, it reminds me of Phantasy Star. The visuals, art style, environments, atmosphere, and world building. It has been way too long since we had a traditional Phantasy Star RPG (aside from online) I honestly never played Xenoblade Chronicles X, because I did not own a Wii U. It was not on my radar. But it is fascinating, how much creativity is thriving everywhere you explore within the game
I remember I didn't actually get a Wii U until 2016, but Xenoblade X was the sole reason I wanted it, so when one was finally in my reach, you know this was one of the first games I bought alongside. I wasn't disappointed - it lived up to every fraction of hype I had after waiting a year. Sure, I never really grasped the combat, but the world, the exploration, the side quests, the goddamn lobsters, everything was a treat. I'm sad I never went back to 100% it, but maybe things will be different with Definitive Edition, especially now that I can play it while people are actually online doing BLADE missions.
Looking forward to returning to Mira. I never had a Wii U myself so my impressions of X are solely based on watching my best friend play it. And it blew me away. I was familiar with Xenoblade and I knew how big that world was but compared to Mira the Bionis was nothing.
This game put the standard for open worlds for me, it still is so ahead of botw/totk when it comes to discovery and exploration. The initial hours of jumping around climbing stuff were so much more fun here than in botw (because the climbing here is superior, no stamina meter, just find the small spots where you can land and then prepare for the next jump that will be tricky but doable). Discovered a lv 70 boss when i was lv 14 exploring a cave that took trial and error to enter and lots of stuff like that makes this (and xenoblade overall) very special. We will see how long monolith soft can keep up with the current level of quality but atm, they are my favorite developers for a reason.
I'm looking forward to the new stuff. I'm hoping certain questions are answered. But I'm also excited to shrapnel shot them monster parts to death again. Especially in overdrive.
I think it's safe to hope there will be an endgame story expansion to tie up loose ends, just like Xenoblade 1 DE got (even though that really wasn't as necessary as one is for X)
@@fattiger6957 i think it wont be like de. Rather it will be integrated in the main game (and hopefully also along the way) some mainquests are too short
@@mattgezockt2596 That sounds like much more work than we usually see in remasters. It's possible and certainly would be better, since the storytelling is X's weakest point, but I don't know if they would want to put that much time and effort into it.
I was so excited to leave New LA and fight the first creatures I saw. I got my butt kicked over and over again. It was awesome. Those were low level enemies, but I also liked to goad high level enemies just for fun.
Im glad people will get to experience this game. It definitely still holds up even today. I remember getting home from school walking immediately to gamestop to get my preordered copy and played the shit out of it when i got home. Its just one of those games where you can just tell the developers care.
It’s interesting hearing that this was kinda the prototype for BotW; always assumed Link Between Worlds was the origin of open ended Zelda (at least with being able to do the dungeons in any order)
MonolithSoft, the studio behind Xenoblade, provided a ton of support on BotW. Without them, I don't think BotW would have been possible or turned out nearly as well as it did. The Xenoblade games were a Nintendo 1st party studio's first real foray into 3d open-world game design. The 2d Zelda games were open world, I guess, but they were 2d.
This game WAS the Wii U generation for me. The reveal trailer for this game at that January Direct followed by the imho iconic E3 trailer where they played the final boss music. Then the 2-ish year wait with trailers here and there, the speculation about the hinted at online features. The speculation about if it was only going to be on one planet or maybe a whole solar system due to how good some of the shots of the moons of the game were. I really hope we get a sequel someday and I really hope that sequel let's us play on multiple planets/beyond Mira. This game was the Metroid Prime 4 of the Wii U generation in terms of irresponsible hyping/being captivated by the possibilities and I hope we get some of that agin with a sequel
I've been saying this for around a decade now. This game is foundational to ALL of Nintendo's "own" open worlds after this released. XBCX might just be the best Open World in any Nintendo game.
the fact that monolith soft dropped one of the most vibrant, lifelike and immersive open worlds ever, then just NEVER did it again is kind of crazy when you think about it. I love the other xenoblade games, but I really miss the amount of freedom you had in this game. I really hope the next xenoblade game is more like this.
Nintendo owes a lot to MonolithSoft. I feel like Xenoblade X was an experimental game. Though a lot of aspects of the game didn't land perfectly, the studio was ambitious with trying new things. I'd say the Monolith crew was always like that, even before they were a separate studio and still worked at Square. And yeah, you're right. Without Xenoblade and especially X, there wouldn't have been BotW. Monolith worked heavily as support for BotW and TotK, bringing their open-world expertise. And I am glad that Nintendo supported them and continues to support them. I'm looking forwards to seeing Monolith's rumoured upcoming, non-Xeno game. I expect it will experiment again in some new and interesting ways.
@twincherries6698 i could see that. Nintendo 1st party games don't have massive budgets and the game was made for the Wii U which was never doing well in sales. I could understand that the studio had ambitions beyond what they were allowed to do.
@@fattiger6957 yep, it was that in combination with needing to get the game out the door and certain things not being viable resulting in a lot of cut content
I remember falling in love with the exploration aspect and discovering new things all the time, like BoTW would later do. It's fitting it gets to be on the Switch since it delivers on the portable promise the WiiU had hinted at (remember that commercial of someone playing in the bathroom?). Hope this game gets a true sequel, I miss that hybrid exploration + using the mechs.
I think that's always been my biggest concern with this what how well has this actually aged especially considering the oversaturation with open world games. However I think what sets Xbc X apart is the feeling of exploration & not just merely a checklist of thing's to do. I'm still wondering how there going make the old functionality of the Wii U GamePad over to switch.
It was overdue to get some love. I was worried for a while that Nintendo had abandoned it. But it eked in right at the tail end of the Switch's life (at least as Nintendo's flagship device)
If it had the popularity of Zelda, this would’ve been titled “Xenoblade X flew so Breath of the Wild could walk” In refrence to the fact that absolutely everything can be reached in X whereas there’s still an invisble wall in Gerudo Desert
I remember really enjoying this game and sinking a lot of time into it but I don't think I ever got to control a mech lol Excited to revisit it and get further
This is why Nintendo got Monolith Soft dev team to help with Zelda BOTW open world design. Monolith Soft set a new standard with the incredible open world of Xenoblade Chronicles X :-)
Still holding out a bit to see if this also gets a Switch 2 release as well. Either way, X was one of the games I never played but became very fascinated with over the years. I’m glad that myself and so many more people will be able to easily experience it now, especially with how much the series has grown in popularity since X’s original release.
I personally booted up the game on a whim the night before the announcement of de. After that I for the first time since getting the game in 2015-16ish and picking it back up during the pandemic, have recruited the final/hardest party member.
The best looking game of that Gen, period! I'm all in for the Switch release, and I cannot wait. Never been this exited for a Switch game since TotK was first announced... Mira here I come!
Recently got a Wii u pro controller. Thought I could play xenoblade chronicles x with it, instead of the gamepad. But no. You can control the characters. But it still requires the gamepad to look at the map and other options. I'm really looking forward to the definitive edition. Just so I don't have to have anything extra and so I can actually read the text and map without a magnifying glass.
One thing I think Xenoblade does better than any game I have ever played (barring maybe the recent Spider-Man games) is making basic traversal fun. It is a joy to simply move through the world, whether on foot or in a Skell. I never thought just running and jumping around a game world would be that fun. Unfortunately, not even Xenoblade games that came afterwards recaptured that feel.
Missing out on X since i never bothered with the Wii U was always a regret of mine. I cannot wait to play this on Switch. Based on what ive heard, im in for a treat going into this blind
Xenoblade X is a master piece, sadly it had no audience because of the WiiU but overall the world, quests and just the immersion itself is just so good
The OG xenoblade x is heavily neutered now because it needs online to let you get items easily, especially end game items. Those requires superboss parts and you obviously can't beat them without creating end game skells. There are also ticket only items and only offline way to get tickets is to 100% all of the map survey. The online allowed to join raids to kill a much weaker version of the superbosses which nets you these tickets to trade them for items. Without that feature, you are just slogging through collection quest and may just be locked out of 100%ing the game. IDK if Pretendo is up for the game but that'd be the only way I can recommend playing wiiU xenoblade x now.
This game might get me into xenoblade I’ve always wanted to play Xenoblade, but there’s just many other games I’d rather buy if I’m able to, but I might get a job soon, so I won’t have to rely on just Christmas/birthday money.
I played Xenoblade X for hundreds of hours and yet I'm pretty sure there are caves and whatnots that I never discovered back then, so I'm really looking forward to playing it again. One improvement that I kind of hope is the Follow Ball since it could get a bit wonky at times. The navigation in 3 was very nice, so maybe they can improve the Follow Ball to work better...?
I actually prefer the wonky follow ball because you can still improvise shortcuts based on its general direction to make the follow ball choose a better route. This is more engaging than just mindlessly following it.
I sadly didn't make it far enough to get the Skell...for whatever reason, something pulled me away from XBCX. I'm hoping to fix that this time around with XBCX:DE.
I think you can apply for a skell licence (it literally has a world building unlock quest) after chapter 4. Realistically that could take 20-30 hours. Less if you straight shot it of course but I really wouldn't recommend trying to blitz through the game as fast as possible. By design it wants you to take your time because this game can get bloody difficult otherwise.
I prefer xeno X to both breath of the wild and tears but I really enjoyed all 3. I am just more a jrpg guy so it makes sense. Cnat wait for the remaster and for the story to NOT end on a cliffhanger! Hope it has larger font too lol.
Xeno x has a lot more depth with far more variety in its side content, characters you can connect to through expansive side quests that botw sorely lacks, and a far more diverse biome to explore with rewarding exploration that actually makes a difference to your playthrough
My one and only complaint is how stupid small the UI text was. I wasn’t able to continue the game after a bit cuz it felt like a chore to read. I really hope they fix that 😭
Not trying to be negative, but this kinda fundamentally ties into why Xenoblade X is my least favorite Xenoblade game, and why BOTW and TOTK kinda killed a lot of my interest in 3D Zelda. Don't get me wrong I still think they are amazing games (in fact I've gotten all shrines in TOTK) and i'm glad that people love them, but that kind of complete open world just doesn't appeal to me personally. I get much more entertainment from the more structured and narrative driven games of mainline Xenoblade and classic 3D Zelda where the world opens up as you progress through the game rather than being open from the get-go. It's been years since I played it so idk if I necessary still agree with it but I remember my feelings on Xenoblade X in the past was that exploring in it felt more like a chore to progress the game rather than the reward for progressing the game that exploration feels like in mainline Xenoblade. Again though I want emphasize that I don't want to be negative and that I am ultimately looking forward to replaying Xenoblade X with a much more open mindset than I had 9 years ago, and hoping that it will change my mind this time.
@PAINt0theMAX I actually have played Just Cause 2. I haven't played it in years but I remember it being very fun to just blow shit up and skydiving all over the place.
That’s the thing, the Xenoblade trilogy struck a perfect balance of enough exploration to feel that the world is expansive and alive, but not too much to be overwhelming. It also had a strong main story focus that rewarded you with more plot for area progression. The game being almost entirely side quests from what I hear sounds like a downgrade. I need motivation to explore a world, not just exploration for the sake of it. That’s why I didn’t like Botw and never played tears. But I really liked games like twilight princess and majora.
@@jairekambui7738 yeah that's another thing. One of the things I absolutely adore about mainline Xenoblade is that they struck what I consider to be the absolute perfect balance with the gameplay/story ratio. Each game gives hours of deep and rich story content and while yes that does mean hours of cutscenes and dialogue, they also give *hundreds* of hours worth of pure gameplay content with lots of rewarding exploration and very deep, satisfying, and addicting combat systems that will keep you occupied for months or even years. It doesn't feel like one aspect was being emphasized to the detriment of the other. With Xenoblade X the ratio is instead heavily skewed towards the gameplay side of things and while I see the appeal (trust me I do play some games purely because I love the gameplay) it looses part of what makes Xenoblade so special to me.
@jairekambui7738 i mean, the world is the story. You are a survivor on an alien spaceship. What would you do? Exploring it so your City can survive. And the Story is fairly Entertaining but just wasnt finished.. but it sounds to me that open World is just not your Cup of Tea
I wish Monolith would have put the same care and energie into their later semi open worlds. Since X I'm spoiled and also a tiny bit disappointed of XC2s and XC3s worlds
They do? It's just in a different way. Meanwhile I would say the same for X when it comes to Cinematography, where most cutscenes are lacking, compared to even XC1 at the time. Hopefully Definitive Editions really fixes most of them, as it kind of already has with introduction of New LA cutscene in the trailer.
@@byronlyons3548 The mainline Xenoblade games are much more story-based. X seemed to be more of an experiment with open-world design and semi-multiplayer. Though I loved X, I do have to admit that the story fell flat when compared to the other games in the series. I prefer the combat, exploration, art design (I love the more sci-fi look) and especially the mecha in X.
@@fattiger6957 I'm talking about cutscenes, and most especially those ones that start off each story mission when people gather around that digital table. No reason to have the camera freely controllable during those. And even then, most of them lack big actions like the ones that happen during the big defense part of the story. Or the side story with Nagi. Multiplayer had nothing to do with those cutscenes at all, and nor does it for most main story ones. Other than taking away time from developing the story, just to have the multiplayer in. Meanwhile XC1 had no problems showing moments like those on the average, throughout the entire game, especially for battles. And knowing not to always sit still in one position, whenever characters are talking to one another. Also, XC1 could be experimental as well, considering it's them making another big RPG, on a system like the Wii of all things. And them making the game more gameplay, than just hallways and cutscenes, like the Xenosaga trilogy is.
One Serious complaint I have is the level cap is at 60 as there are quite a few monsters that have a high aggro range and are far higher level. I hope that Nintendo increases the level cap to 100.
It's funny to hear you say that this game "evolved" into BOTW and TOTK considering that XCX totally destroys those two in absolutely every department. ln my case, l was playing BOTW and l discovered the most important thing l've ever discovered in a Zelda game: a beam of light directed to the sky with a bonus armor from Xenoblade Chronicles. My curiosity got the best of me and l bought XCX. And l stopped playing Zelda altogether. This game was the best on the WiiU and it's about to become the best on the Switch.
I was so excited to get this on the Wii U back in the day but I didn’t get very far. Debating getting it on Switch but only if they give the fast travel and how confusing it is to find materials

I think it's more accurate to say that Xenoblade X ran so that BotW is able to run. I beg BotW and TotK fans to play Xenoblade X.
I remember going through my finished save of this game just to turn all UI elements off and take screenshots. Mira is so, so beautiful
Xenoblade x flew so botw could climb
I never played this game, but the more I look into it, the more impressive it sounds. I may get it when it comes out on the Switch.
I played soooooo much Xenoblade X even after the Switch had come out.
Xenoblade Chronicles X, it reminds me of Phantasy Star. The visuals, art style, environments, atmosphere, and world building. It has been way too long since we had a traditional Phantasy Star RPG (aside from online)
I honestly never played Xenoblade Chronicles X, because I did not own a Wii U.
Xenoblade X is peak and i am so hyped !
And now, Xenoblade Chronicles X can run too!
Aw yeah
Definitely. Being on the Wii U really held it back from being recognized.
It's really nice to hear you this excited again for a game.
Tied as my fave game in the series with XC1.
Funny as 2 and 3 are tied as my favorites
X flew so BotW could glide
This was my favourite game for years.
the fact that monolith soft dropped one of the most vibrant, lifelike and immersive open worlds ever, then just NEVER did it again is kind of crazy when you think about it.
To be fair, the X we got was far from their idealized vision. While it is an experimental game, it was very much an incomplete experiment.
Y'all could talk about this game every week until DE comes out and I'd watch it lol
I can’t wait to play this game for the first time! Have loved all these videos on the game.
No such thing as too much Xenoblade X content.
I like how Derek is lobbying for this game and genuine it feels
I can’t wait to go back to Mira! March can’t get here fast enough!
Recently got a Wii u pro controller. Thought I could play xenoblade chronicles x with it, instead of the gamepad. But no. You can control the characters. But it still requires the gamepad to look at the map and other options. I'm really looking forward to the definitive edition. Just so I don't have to have anything extra and so I can actually read the text and map without a magnifying glass.
that surprising because you can play it on only the gamepad in handheld mode
Glad to be back on Mira
Mira is still 1 of the most impressive creation for Nintendo standards and even for other platform it would still be impressive.
The music in this game is masterclass
The very best Xenoblade, easily. 💙
My favourite game Xenoblade X is finally getting released on the switch. Holy crap
Xenoblade Xs richly detailed open world puts BOTWs to shame
Botw is just shrines, monster camps, koroks, and towers repeating ad nauseam
Love it, I started a new play though on my Wii U. Sadly I won’t have anyway to generate tickets for higher end Skells 😢
Monolith Soft is Nintendo's secret weapon
I can't wait for Xenoblade X!
i just hope solo players get similar benefits to the online players stuff… that’s what has me sussed about the game
I hope they add photo mode in the DE version. It'll be glorious
This game might get me into xenoblade
I’ve always wanted to play Xenoblade, but there’s just many other games I’d rather buy if I’m able to, but I might get a job soon, so I won’t have to rely on just Christmas/birthday money.
Would be awesome to have Chuggaconroy on again so you two can resume your Xenoblade X discussions from 2014/2015. 🙏👍
@@metastase895 True, you do have a good point there.
@@firenze6478 I frickin loved it. Took a bit of time to get used to the ol New LA rap though lol heeeu...ugh!....heeeu
@@Terron29 I hear that! Lol.
My one and only complaint is how stupid small the UI text was. I wasn’t able to continue the game after a bit cuz it felt like a chore to read. I really hope they fix that 😭
Does Jon do adverts now? I swear I got a Phillips advert with his voice over before this.
Play just cause 2 if you want better open worlds
Man i couldn’t really get into Xenoblade on switch, but i might give X a shot.
Weird, i got Jons Philips Shaver advert when i clicked this video 😆
Wish Nintendo announced it a day before it comes out 😩
I wish Monolith would have put the same care and energie into their later semi open worlds. Since X I'm spoiled and also a tiny bit disappointed of XC2s and XC3s worlds
Different kinds of games. You ride around in a giant robot in this game. The scale is completely different.
I wonder if we're gonna still mash to install probes lol
I’m buying this day 1
I pre-ordered a physical copy day one (that they were available to pre-order).
@@vgnvideogameninja2930im still hoping for a collectors edition. I dont think it will ran out of physical copys so soon

Great vid on one of my fav games of all time.
100%
I thank Xenoblade Chronicles X for helping too make way for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Breath of the Wild ran so
Xenoblade X could sprint
