Well what it's like to be at the departure gate in Colombo/Katunayake until its time for your flight? Here's a glimpse of some ground activity at Colombo International Airport while waiting to catch yet another UL outbound.
Nice to see a Sri Lankan A320 4R-ABJ taxing to gate, you hardly see them well most of the time with the fleet heavily involved in short haul operations.

I got kicked off my cruise ship because I'd contracted typhoid fever, and spent 2 weeks in a hospital in Colombo. Top rate doctors and nurses. Bill of $1500.00. Flew home from Colombo to Sacramento on Emirates/Jet Blue from this airport. I want to go back and see Sri Lanka when I can really see it.

Malinda Rajapakse Hi! I have worked on aircraft mechanic An-26 in 1999-2000, in March 2000, one of our planes was shot down by Anuradhapura. I lived in the area of non-commissioned military base, it is against the right side of the airport terminal, we rested mainly in Negombo. Most went to Colombo and its suburbs. Sri Lanka an excellent island for vacation, very beautiful, interesting and nice people.

4R-ABJ is a special aircraft to me as I got the chance to sit in the flight deck from take off to landing en-route from CMB to BLR. Great video mate :)

Yeah there are several decent places to eat, around 4 and if I'm not mistaken at least two of them have for Free wifi. Nice to chill out before hopping on the flight

Great Video! When I tried filming there, I noticed a poster that said "No Cameras" SO I decided not to film. btw where did the plane at 12:29 ( A320 ) arrive from if you still remember ?

Hey Nilsky there is no problems filming or taking pictures at the airport, well at least as far as I know, at least near the seating area. So take out that camera or camcorder next time you fly :) oh I cannot recall I'm guessing a short hop

Can we change New Zealand dollars for Sri Lankan rupees at the International airport. Is there a money exchange place or is there a bank facility in the Airport

Hi Robin, yes there is. As soon as you pass through customs to the arrivals lounge after youve collected your luggage there are several Banks there where you can exchange. Have a peep at airports.lk.
Also there are several other authorised currency exchange places in colombo. ive used a place called the currency exchange in Colombo 6 also which gives slightly better rates than banks. Worth if your going down that also. Cheers
