Hi, My name is Felthom & I’m currently documenting my experiences as person of color here in China. hope you enjoy this new video. Kindly like ,comment & subscribe if you’re new.
I went to China back in 2008. Being a white woman in China was an exceptional experience, to say the least. Everyone wanted to stop me and either take a picture with me and/or get my autograph. It was wild! Same happened to me in Egypt in 2017- but in an even more fanatical way! Every child wanted to touch my skin, hug me, talk to me, take pictures of, and with me, and would just stare and stare at me with great big smiles on their faces! They just weren't used to seeing anyone different. My boyfriend was getting pretty annoyed with it at the end of our 2 week trip because it was so overwhelming trying to navigate large groups of people/children crowding us and following us wherever we went. It was quite lovely, really. 💞 The children were just so happy and excited to talk to someone different looking in person.
Speak and walk it will make your video more interesting like where is the village and how many people live there do your research and it make your video interesting just walking it is boring.
Looks like you are taking over Maya's role as the African ambassador of goodwil to China! You are doing fabulous with your fluency in Mandarin! Following you from the 🇺🇸 USA
I was thinking about Mister Ghana Baby! I watched a lot of those videos, wondered what he's doing. I'm thinking some people in China have at least heard of Ghana b/c of him!
My dad once toured China taking cheap trains and as a 6ft tall deaf man he received a lot of attention whenever he spoke sign language. People would just simply stare because it was so foreign. It's cool to see you bridge the cultural gap and chat with people. That's such a beautiful place, feels very peaceful.
Watching all these videos, I can see that the Chinese people show a deep respect for this guy when they realize he speaks their language fluently. They invariably brighten-up with a smile and move curiously towards him. Many people appear to want to be seen with him in a photograph. He is doing great public relations for Black People and China. I hope someone is paying him for this work. 1.4 billion Chinese does not appear to intimidate him.
You won't feel any more political tension once you're in China. One warning though, you will stop believing the fake news and lies by the mainstream media when you get back to your home country.
Awesome vlog man! I think it would be cool if you tried to talk with the camera a bit more though, almost like if you were talking to a live audience. Maybe its just this video, but you seemed a little quiet.
I enjoyed watching this video 1. I’ve never been to China but today I experienced taking a stroll at the Great Wall & 2. The education factor of it. My opinion, I sensed racism on a few people ie: the guy that was following you around & I kinda didn’t like that security followed you out but also you were a little too in peoples faces like when you was talking to those kids unaccompanied by an adult, so he had reasonable suspicion. Overall this video was enjoyable. I would like to see London next.
“When you accuse others of discrimination, but use narrow-mindedness to judge others and make assumptions instead of seeking evidence, you are actually doing the same thing that you are accusing others of.The person you mentioned, judging from his work uniform, is most likely someone who works in maintenance and cleaning. Do you really think you are important in a busy tourist spot? Thinking that you are being monitored is simply a delusion of persecution. It's too ridiculous.
Fel, you have integrated so well into Chinese society and speak Mandarin fluently. I would not be in the least surprised if you make China your home. Was this walk along the Great Wall of China?
I’m glad I found your channel, Im 28 trying to finish and get me bachelors in 3 years to come teach English in Hangzhou. This is definitely helping me get rid of what I’m sure is a lot of culture shock that will hit me haha. Tryna date some Chinese chicks too 😆 -Californian
You should try this in the rural area of white neighborhood in the u.s.. I wonder the difference reactions of the people. Also try this in other countries in Europe, middle east and India. People would enjoy seeing their reaction
Let me make a claim here. Every person, regardless of his/her skin colour, will not be rejected, looked down or treated unequally in a country that has a 5,000 years culture. If that person does suffer disrespect then he/she must have done something harmful to the common good. China is a community-based country where individual selfishness will not be tolerated. Take riding a metro in China. Chinese metro stations differ from New York subways for spotless clean and free of graffiti. Thus anyone, regardless of his/her country of origin, will be a public enemy if he/she knowingly damage a public place to make it look more westernised. Any foreigner able to speak a few word of local language is always welcome in any country and China is no exception. However a foreigner fluent in Mandarin will enjoy enormous respect from the Chinese people.
Hello brother i am melanin black like you and took 4 years of Chinese 4 honors in high-school was fluent and now I am not. What methods do you do to learn again? And you currently live in china my brotha? What language or origin and what country you from? I'm jamaican
My Brother Fel Thommy: We as humans are proficient in the translation of vibrational frequency. You are not Black; you are an extension of Source Energy and you are omnipotent. People greet you, because your vibration is one of harmony and non-threating. Only you see yourself as being black and it’s probably your hashtag for TH-cam viewers. Know thyself. One day we will meet, and I will treat you to your favorite meal.
I would also like to point out that staring in other countries isn't as malevolent as it is in western ideological nations, and at the very least not as problematic as it is in "progressive countries" that pride itself on its "diversity". In other countries, observing someone really is just that. Theres not an extended suspension of someones intent. Also, most countries operate with a very homogeneous demographic so when a foreigner who is from a totally different part of the world comes to visit - it is an exception to the norm and does warrant genuine curiosity. It really is the case that perhaps alot of these folks have never aeen a black man in person before, and it is curiosity. It is not the same as living in America or the U.K. where through forced colonization and resource hoarding - people of multiple races and ethnicities live in those countries. Americans love to claim this "melting pot" analogy because of its "diversity" but ask a person of color if they ever feel safe walking through a white-suburb and i guarentee most will say no. The staring and general questioning comes with a different intention.
I think there's a big difference between a black man walking in Chinese town with a black man walking in a white neighborhood. Those Chinese don't feel threatened at all. But a black man walking in a white neighborhood would be seen as someone looking to rob them because it has happened. These Chinese have never been robbed by a black man in their lives. Just like the first white people who went to Africa wasn't seen as a threat and people were just looking at them with curiosity until people started realizing that those whites were their to rob them of their natural resources.
Awww the young lady you told her outfit looked good was so overwhelmed after saying “Xie xie” She stood in amazement and watched you walk away. ❤

Thanks for sharing 💥
Seems a lot of ppl are not used to seeing a person of darker skin color..he's getting a lot of looks bc of that, or bc of being video-taped. 💥
In South African townships it will be so too but not in the mixed areas of Cape town

The view looks so beautiful and peaceful with the background music!!😊

Alright I’ll work on that
That’s actually what I like about this, though. It’s more peaceful and immersive, to me, with him only speaking when the moment arises organically.
I’m impressed with your Chinese speaking. How long did it take you to learn?

the Great wall of China! Wow!
No. That is just a city wall. This is the wall ... th-cam.com/video/-b3tZkT2gfQ/w-d-xo.html

He better not goes into all-white neighborhoods in USA, we don't want to see him get arrested by police, or worst, gets shot by the police.
Not in rural white neighborhoods, he would be shot,or at the end of a rope or both, that is gsorry that's just grim reality in merica
He could not walked around like that in America some one would have called the cops look how they greet him they are not bother .
yes, film a video in the USA mostly for approval by the people
He's safer there than in America, and that's a fact!
