"Fever" was a top ten hit for Peggy Lee in 1958. Elvis covered the song in 1960 and included it on his fourth album, Elvis Is Back!, released after he returned from the army. Madonna covered the song in 1992 and included it on her fifth album, Erotica, simultaneously released with her first book, Sex, a coffee table book containing explicit photographs of her in unconventional poses. Bear in mind that 1992 was several years before the dawn of the internet and a book of erotic photographs of a pop star could still be controversial. At any rate, Bruce Springsteen wrote a song in the early seventies called "The Fever" that he gave to Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes which might be taken as the flip side of this song as it shuffles along a similarly languid stroll as the chorus diagnoses the singer's fevered affliction. When you're ready for more from Peggy Lee also check out "Why Don't You Do Right (Get Me Some Money Too)", along with some of these similarly themed gems -- Priscilla Bowman "Sugar Daddy", Annisteen Allen "Yes, I Know", Ann Cole "Are You Satisfied", Varetta Dillard "Mama Don't Want (What Papa Don't Want)", Betty Hutton "He's A Demon - He's A Devil - He's A Doll", Annette Hanshaw "Moanin Low", and Mildred Bailey "Heat Wave" (YMMV).

Fever was originally by Little Willie John in 1956. Beyoncé also did a version of the song in the movie, The Fighting Temptations in the early 2000’s.
