She doesn't even speak another language. that sounds funny just to speak another accent is nailing hahahaha but I totally agree how weird I found when the actor changed after the episode. She acted very very well

What stands out for me in particular is how the boys acted. Most scripts would have them say something sexist or just mean to hammer the point home that they're ahole boys. But the glares were more than enough to tell us they don't think a girl should be playing with them. Show. Don't tell.
The high school chess teacher is so devoid of emotion or courtesy. I know it's a downer for the boys who are being beaten so badly at chess, but show some respect, guys. This girl has finally achieved something that makes her feel a strong surge of self-esteem.
🌺 *Take on the role of young Beth Harmon, her name is Isla Johnston* *She was born for acting and I think her face looked more like Scarlett Johansson, even the last name is similar* 😄
This is the best serial Netflix has ever made. I remember watching it all night, episode after episode. When next weekend came I've started it over. From beginning.
I felt badly when the high school chess director gives her a doll. You can see her face of anticipation hoping it's a chess set, only to be utterly dismayed to lift a doll out of the box. I think that's why she chucks it into the trash with such resentment. What a shame she went so long without a chess set of her own!
I love that scene. I love the way she said Thank you very much to the director. Clearly she's disappointed but tried her best not to sound so rude with a smile.
Wonder if she did have chocolate all over her face in that moment in, real life, or would she be a little offended that they took an easy shot at the expense of her actual more careful eating habits.
Anya Taylor-Joy, a great actress. The young Beth, Isla Johnston, was beyond cute because of her emotionless features. They both made this NetFlix movie a sensation. I wish there could be a "Gambit II" but how can you improve on beating a Russion/ Soviet GrandMaster??
High school arrogance I remember the chess club at our school those guys were complete ass hats. This was back in the mid-sixties. These types of guys were later known as nerds or geeks.
Ya I wonder why they did that. She liked the chocolates but wanted to acknowledge his role in her success? ...doesn't fit her character. Maybe they would be stolen or confiscated anyway. Or maybe (I like to think) the screenwriter or director is familiar with a concept that teachers of early childhood know: extrinsic rewards (like chocolates) are overshadowed by the pure joy of accomplishment in every child's mind. Perhaps you like the scene because you know this too (subconsciously or instinctively), and appreciate the expression of the concept.
Una niña espectacular!, Me atrapó con su actuación, les confieso que el capítulo que más veo es es primero, sin olvidar que la película me encantó!....
A defense is a type of opening for black. When you go 1. E4 there are a few openers for black like the sicilian, caro kahn, etc. and some are meant to give better attacking chances. I'm betting Charles went for some aggressive defense like the sicilian or scandinavian and lost when his attack fell apart because Beth knows how to defend, which is much harder than attacking.
This scene reminds me Derren’s Brown show when he play chess with professionals but they actually play between themselves. Here Beth is really good even if it's just fiction.

I could kind of see how she didn’t. Beth leaves the people who leave her alone. Mr. S didn’t really speak to her when they made her stop playing chess or didn’t really acknowledge her when she waved goodbye when she was adopted. So she kind of just thought he was just another person that abandoned her That’s why it hit her so hard when she came back and saw all those things because she saw that he never abandoned her.
