I'm a teenager of the 60's and never heard of this band. They are really, really good and I will be checking out their other songs. Thanks Harri and tip of the hat to Canada!

Try their album "Twice Removed" from 1994. It was their second album on Geffen Records, and the label dropped them because their first album was very 90s grungy, and the label was expecting something like that again. Instead, Sloan released a very 60s-ish sound Beatles record with "Twice Removed" and the label dropped them entirely. It was the closest they ever got to making it in America; in Canada they're still massive though.

As a Canadian, Sloan are in my opinion the best we've had to offer in the last 30 years. I saw them twice last year, and they still all sound great. Always a great live show, and their new material is just as solid.

Sloan are spectacular in concert. They often switch instruments between each member and every member sings. Jay Ferguson, the guitarist who doesn't sing in this song also DJs occasionally in Toronto. Andrew Scott, the drummer, has a unique vocal style such as People of the Sky (th-cam.com/video/Xcb9AR2FpDU/w-d-xo.html).

My favorite band, they're amazing- same 4 guys for like literally 30 years, they all write songs and take turns on lead vocals. Each of the 4 have their own styles, and yet they still sound like a cohesive band. Any one of them could have fronted a band full time. Definitely worth listening to more 💜

Only point l would add is bringing the siren back into the mix by the end of the song.
My friend used to complain that dope fizz doesn't mean anything.
Saw them in Chicago and Toronto in the 90s. Thanks

These guys are a Canadian gem! I was raised on reggae and James Brown and I love these guys, easily my favorite band, I’ve been listening to them since the mid 90s. For those who’ve never heard of Sloan, you’re missing out.

Sloan is one of those rare bands that are incapable of writing a bad song.

They are from Halifax, I believe, my sister studied there and she kept raving about them, truly a great semi-underground band made good. I'd love to see your reaction to Under my thumb by Streetheart, an incredible cover of the Stones' classic.

I know these guys. there from my hometown Halifax Nova Scotia. heavily influence by the Beatles and many other British bands. remember Halifax is a port city very much like Liverpool. lots of music use to come through there that you couldn't get at the record store back in the day and long before TH-cam. If you like this band you might like the Super Friendz, fronted by Brother of Chris Murphy the bassist for sloan. check out there song Karate man.

The Stones comparison is apt on this song, as the guitar is very Keith Richards influenced here. On other tracks they have a more Beatles-like vibe (a huge influence for them, right down to all four of the band members writing and singing lead on some songs in almost every album). Also, I'm glad you liked the drums. Andrew Scott is a phenomenal drummer, and his signature style contributes so much to their sound.

Another interesting fact for those who are unaware of is that the lead singer/bassist & the drummer switch off for certain songs live & for a few video’s as well 🤘 super talented🇨🇦band.

Louis - I must say that the first thing that came to mind was me thinking how many people forgot that their volume was turned up over the years as the sirens were doing their thing! 📢😎 I really enjoyed this discovery, and you're on a streak of gems. Thanks, Louis and Harri.

They were a huge part of the "Halifax" sound in the early 90's. They have a great catologue and are severely underrated. Another Nova Scotia band worth checking out is The Trews. I think you'd love "Not Ready To Go" in particular.

    • @LongGone77

Sloan predated Weezer. That said, I can see that comparison. Both bands were on Geffen records in the early 90s; come to think of it, both bands were also on the "Geffen Rarities" compilation that came out in the mid 90s (that also included Teenage Fanclub, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Posies, etc).

Awesome reaction Harry. You are killing it with these Canadian bands. So much great music that came from Canada in the 80s and 90s. Keep up the good work. Let me throw out a forgotten 80s Canadian song in closing. Melody from Boys Brigade. Peace out
