  • On 1st July 2024 hurricane Beryl made landfall as a category 4 destroying the sister islands of Carriacou and Petit Martinique.
    On the mainland of Grenada most of the damages to houses were on the northern side of the island, but there were loads of fallen trees all over the island.
    Here is a look at what it was like driving in the north of the island assessing the damages.

      The island of Trinidad and its people have been sending aid since Tuesday and continues to do so. Caribbean islands has insurance coverage for such events. I am sure there will be international assistance as well, but what is most needed now is being supplied by Trinidad and Tobago.

    I left there just last Wednesday, and you passed right by where I stayed. Shockingly, it is in seemingly good condition in the midst of all that destruction. I can say with all certainty now that I will never value material possessions again, especially over life. They truly mean nothing, at least not as much as the family. Only family will stay back and rebuild. God bless them and keep them safe.

    It seems so surreal to see such a beautiful, colorful place destroyed by high destructive winds from a hurricane like Beryl. The music playing makes it more surrealistic, devastating to the lives of so many people affected. Life is prescious. You did a fantastic job bringing this to the whole world to see and feel. Help will come. It might take years to make all that devastation go away, but the teamwork of others it will be a beautiful, colorful once again. Trust in the Lord and his FATHER. Amen!!!!

    As a survivor of Katrina, a lot of things was done wrong, all damaged material should have been taken to a site for reusable material, people who had nothing could have used a lot of material to use to rebuild till they could afford to replace it, even damaged boats, parts and stuff could have been reused, cars , parts could have been reused, salvage ever thing you can to help the rebuild or it's gonna take 20 to 30 years, the gulf coast still has signs of katrina..be smart, start a recycle program for people in need..

    This level of damage is just unbelievable, comparable only to what I know of Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi and what I've seen of Maria, also Dorian. Everything shredded in what was it 30 min of full force winds? A tropical storm to a cat5 in 24 hours?!!! The world needs to pay attention because Humans have taken one of the most destructive forces on earth (hurricanes) and made them into super monsters with climate change. Small island nations should not be the ones to pay for this. Looking at these buildings I cant even imagine how anyone survived. They will need all the help the world can give. My ❤ and prayers go out to all affected.

    you know the question I wonder that I have never heard a good answer to? What do they do to clean the place up. I mean there is garbage EVERYWHERE that cant be used. It is just trash. I saw this live years ago on the soggy dollar webcam when it hit there. The place was devastated. 2 years later it is clean and you cant tell really. (other than there are no tall trees anymore)

    • @drcartervet
      @drcartervet  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      that's a good question.
      What I think they should do is designate an area to put all the debris and then hire the locals to separate them into sections with lumber and wood, galvanise, wires and lines, and then trash.
      most of these can me recycled or utilised for fuel, the rest can be shipped down to the landfill on the mainland via slow barges.
      Bring up some trucks and tractors and clean out the roads in a few days, then sort the trash and ship them out to the mainland...the same barge bringing up building materials can bring those things down.
      with a good effort it will be cleared.
      Additionally do a soup kitchen to feed all who is working, so that way the local population can get meals as well as some money to rebuild their homes.

    Can you provide a list of organizations that there helping so donations can be made?

    • @drcartervet
      @drcartervet  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are a few on the ground but I am not sure how far from the ground your donation will have to go.
      My vet practice have a GoFundMe for the recovery efforts of animals in Carriacou; the link is in the bi0.
      The NGO I volunteer/work with Ocean Spirits also have a GoFundMe set up to help rebuild the houses of our volunteers and others in the north of Grenada and some in Carriacou (where the funds can reach); the link for that is also in the bio.
      Both organisations are on the ground in Grenada and established 10+ and 20+ years ago.
      If you want to donate through the government portal, there is an avenue in pay.gov.gd to take donations toward hurricane relief.

    • @drcartervet
      @drcartervet  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are other organisations on the ground, but I can't tell how much of your donation will get to the people affected.
      Those I suggested will go directly towards the cause because they are on the ground and from Grenada.
