    Even better than the first! Big fan of the series, looking forward to episode 3, I really loved your main speaking shot, grey view of the highway and the overpass!

      Thank you for watching and the kind words, Julian! It's a tricky place to shoot because of all of the road noise, but the backdrop is spectacular!

    I’ve driven under that bridge many times! It’s great to know more about it.

    Terrific job Warren! Very positive message that leaves me feeling hopeful about future development and spread across precious habitat. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for these bridges on our travels.

    Great job! I’d love to see some animal overpasses on highway 60 through Algonquin Park.

      That would seem to me like an appropriate location for them!

    What a beautiful way to preserve so many lives. I loved this episode and gasped when the statistic that the research and eventual change lead to 70% less roadkill deaths, amazing!

      And that bridge even looks good while it does that work! Thanks very much for watching, Requeza!

    I myself have seen the effects of Moose And bears Actually killing people while driving in the same parts Now improved with the bridge..Keeping in mind you normally knee jerk and end up in a ditch Or in many cases in the north head on into a rock face..This is why the highway is reduced to 80kms/hr And people still speed even at night ..100kms/hr into a rock face is always a poor outcome..

    I've always thought these animal crossings were great, but I also wondered if they might be just a little too good for predators, providing easy predictable places for them to find and trap prey. No danger for moose, since few predators take on those living Bradley tanks. But deer are another thing.

      Haha yeah I wouldn't want to trifle with a moose either! I asked that to Kari when we met up and she was saying that, despite that thought being popular (I wondered about prey dynamics myself!), studies haven't shown an increased risk to prey animals by getting funneled onto the bridge.
      I did a quick search and it seems this is called the 'prey-trap hypothesis.' I found a few studies from Africa and India, focused on places with fences to control wildlife, and they found similar results. Thanks for watching and for leaving your comment!

    It's good to see animal crossings come to Ontario.
    It's also good to see better roads get built. We have a huge amount of land, a wider road is not an issue, in and of itself.
    I live driving and going places. There is no real alternative unless everyone does without cars and we all go to a few high traffic tourist destinations that support a rail link, it's just not going to happen. Canada still has its nature, we want to get out to see it. We have to manage it all together. So many countries have very little nature left.

      Just because land exists, doesn't give us the entitlement to build a road over it. Pave paradise put up a parking lot. Canada still has its nature and it should not be fragmented by development such as road construction to encourage even further car dependency.

    Thank you for featuring these wildlife corridors over/under passes! I wonder what country used them first?

    • @WarrenTheReporter
      @WarrenTheReporter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a very good question. Most often, I've seen people citing France as the first place to have an ecopassage in the 1950s, though some say it was intended more for hunters to corral game than for wildlife preservation. However, whenever that example gets cited it's always vaguely written as "France in the 1950s," never giving an actual location or any specific date, so I wonder about the accuracy of that statement. Something to explore in the future!
