While I prefer the original overall, Dream Warriors is still one of the best horror films of the 80s. It also presents the most iconic, familiar version of Freddy who is more wisecracky than scary, though it wasn't yet out of control here. Just a really cool film. I love the horror fantasy of the whole thing. Really an influential film in its own right. Movies are still copying Dream Warriors to this day. I'd give it a 9.0 (the original I would give like a 9.5 for context.)
Definitely think you guys should at least watch Part 4 and New Nightmare.

I used to be able to control my dreams as a child and this particular entry in the 'Nightmare' series left a large impression on my imagination. I watched so many horror movies in the 80s that I would often have lucid nightmares. I was even sometimes able to escape my dreams and wake myself up, usually by spinning around really fast or creating/finding a window to jump out of. I remember watching this at my babysitter's house shortly after it was released on VHS. It blew my mind at the time.

I love the expanding of the original premise of “in your dreams he can do whatever he wants. But they are your dreams, so you can to. Be a wizard, be super strong.” We’ve all had dreams where we were the hero of our own story with powers and it was a clever way to improve on the original without leaving behind the rules of the first.

I wouldn't say personally that the drug injection scene was pointless, because I feel it plays on her fear of being on them again and over dosing, because her character was a drug addict, they just didn't make it hugely obvious in the beginning which is a shame because then the nightmare scene for her would have made more sense.

She says she doesn't do thst stuff anymore and he points out the needle marks on her arms. That made it obvious that she was a recovering drug user.

I love Dream Warriors almost as much as the first one. Just as it is trendy for the production companies lately to ignore the bad sequels, for me this is the perfect trilogy: The classic ANOES 1, then the awesome Dream Warriors, which practically ignores the inconsequential second part and is a direct sequel to the first one, develops more Freddy's origin, gives an ending to Nancy and a coherent death to Freddy, which could be considered as the end of the saga. And then ending with the great 'Meta' commentary of New Nightmare. THAT for me is the perfect trilogy to the franchise...

Saw this film on the big screen with friends when I was 12. What a blast. Made a Freddy Kruger glove took it to school for part of an art display. The teachers made life hell. They banned me from all the end of year social events, even though I didn't drink or smoke, just did some 'weird' art.

The more elaborate dream sequences and the more charismatic Freddy is what sets Nightmare 3 apart from the first 2. It's also sets the formula for the remaining 80s Nightmares. I love it. Super cool effects, a larger roster of victims, the return of Nancy and starring future Oscar winner Patricia Arquette (2014's Boyhood).
Gotta love a movie where the post-movie conversation is "Which was your favorite teen murder?"
There was a NoES tv show in the 80s, as well...I barely remember it. Freddy only hosted it.
So glad you guys watched this one...It's made me very nostalgic.

To fully understand how Freddy keeps coming back you'd need to watch Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. But in short the reason why they all keep dreaming about Freddy is because they keep hearing bits and pieces about him. And that ties into the way dreams work. Simply hearing about serial killer that uses a claw or is dressed in a certain way will ensure that you'll visualize how he would look in your mind. These images might bring up certain emotions or sensations that your brain processes at night in the form of dreams.
To give a simple explanation. Lets say we all live in the same town but I'm the only way that knows about Freddy. Me knowing about Freddy ensures his existence because i keep him alive in my dreams. Now lets say i tell you something about the dreams I'm having then you'll start dreaming about Freddy and you tell someone else who then tells someone else and in that way he'll keep spreading like a virus. Technically in theory the only way you could truly get rid of Freddy would be to completely erase him from history and from the minds of very person that knows about him.

This movie was much better than the second one of course, but it wasn't as scary and serious and as dark as the first one. This one had excellent nightmare sequences and a lot of fun but unfortunately this is the movie that turned Freddy into the joker that he ended up being, with his jokes and one liners. So it kind of saved the franchise and ruined it at the same time. The fourth one is also very cool, and it has some of the best kills in the entire franchise, but it's more like an MTV movie, more fun and pop, but definitely worth watching. What you have to understand is that by then people was already familiarized with Freddy, he was everywhere, he was on MTV and on t-shirts, he really became an icon in pop culture, a rock star. And by the third movie Freddy had become the hero of the movies, people just wanted to see how crazy he could be and in which imaginative ways he would kill the victims, so the movies became more and more wild and fun, but they lost the dark evil essence of the first one.

I really hope you guys check out the rest of the movies down the line. Technically there are only 5 more, if you count FVJ and don’t count the remake. Part 4 is my personal favorite and was the highest grossing one of the series until FVJ. It was the #1 movie in the U.S. for 3 weeks in 1988, and that was a huge deal. It’s also one of the first movies directed by Renny Harlin, who brought an amazing visual flair and pop sensibility to the series.
