Wonderful! So well photographed - loved how camera movement was kept to a minimum. i also loved that nobody felt the need to narrate - the voice of the locomotive spoke for itself. I felt like I was there myself. Does anyone remember the movie - The Grey Fox? It reminded me of some of its photography.
Nice vid, great hi-def! I was in Cass yesterday, got there too late to ride the train. I rode it before though when I was a kid. The weather is usually bad there, especially at the top of the mountain. I think that outfit was started by WV Pulp and Paper company, my dad worked at the Luke mill for 42 years.
At 02:53 the tower in the background is the Gauley Mountain fire lookout tower that was located 1 mile west of Ansted in Fayette County WV. The tower was built in 1922 and served until 1988 or 89. I was the Observer at Gauley from the fall season 1977 till the end of the spring season 1986. The best job in the world for a young single man. I wouldn't trade those 9 years for anything. My thanks to the many fine people that saved the old tower from the scrap heap.
@Kleman09 I will return for footage of a normal operating day and combine it all into one video. Not sure when a DVD release date will come about, probably by 2012.
U kno wuts different abouit these loads and the ones they carried back then? Those log cars would be filled 2 feet higher than the loco, there would be about 5-10 more of them, and that supply car would again be filled to the brim with stuff
Reading a 650 page book means nothing. You can't take 30 or 40 seconds to read the description and save your self the humility? Next time before you ask a question, read the description.
@HaloCE14 Well I don't type just for me to read. I'll tell ya today's youth want nothing but instant gratification and everything hand-fed to them. Can't take like 2 mins to read the damn description.
