Some nice engine's there Rob. I do remember the spark plug one. Sorry to hear about the loss of a fellow TH-cam friend. Very sad. Keep well. Cheers Nobby

You have a nice collection of engines there Rob. I have a small steam engine that belonged to my late father. I should get it out and fire it up for my 8 year old daughter to see. I don't think they teach what steam engines are in school anymore.

Hi Jon. You are probably right. Steam is long gone for most things motive these days. I went to a farm field day and a guy had a club display there of at least 100 model steam engines (maybe more) running off of compressed air. I tried to film it, but the weather came in and we all had to abandon ship. Pity as it was an amazing collection. Quite a lot of enthusiasts around apparently. I expect a lot don't get run very often. The fun part is building them :) Cheers Rob

Hi Alan. Same here. It's something totally different. I was thinking about mobiles/add ons for model engines, and I wondered if you could make a row of moving ducks/target discs same as we used to shoot at fair grounds. They could be on a belt or oscillate sideways on a rack, with a simple crank. That would check out your skills and impress your shooting mates :) He He. Cheers Rob

@@Xynudu Hi Rob. Believe it or not I have thought about something like that. The difficult part, for me anyway, was coming up with a way the targets could move and be hinged so that you could knock them over. A belt or a chain would be easy enough to create the movement, not sure about the other part though 🤔 Cheers, Alan.

    Hi Rob.
    Thanks for the update.
    Good to see Shirley.
I will have to get around to using my little Shirline also.
I have just used of my new Proxxon Lathe, made up a stuffing box and drive shaft for a model steam boat.
    Very pleased with it.

Hi Ian. I've looked at them on line and wondered how they stack up. Which model did you buy ? I see HobbyTools Australia in Victoria sell them. Interesting. Cheers Rob

Hi Ian. I've come to the conclusion it's getting really hard to buy a decent secondhand lathe at a reasonable price. The few that come on the market get snapped up pronto by what appears to be a mass of eager buyers. The bro-Inlaw has been looking for a 10 inch swing lathe like mine for ages, and it's got to the point where he might just as well buy new and be done with it. I guess that was your thinking buying new ? Cheers Rob

      @@Xynudu Hi Rob.
Yes I bought it from Hobby Tools Aust, they are fantastic to deal with, they have been in business for a good while.
I bought the Proxxon PD250/E with the extras package plus everything else that suits this lathe.
It is genuine German made, expensive, but I have wanted one forever.
I actually bought it from scrounging and cashing in 10 cent cans and bottles !!

Interesting unit. The bed is a bit unusual compared to most small lathes, but good and wide. Not cheap, but it is what it is. Best to buy what you like, rather than regret it later. The new mini/micro lathe market is a bit limited. I hope you get a good run out of it. Cheers Rob
