- From Echo Point Lookout in Katoomba, gaze upon the slender rock formation of the Three Sisters; many forest trails also begin from here. Take the world's steepest passenger railway down into the lush ancient rainforest of the Blue Mountains Scenic World. Alternatively, ride the glass-bottomed cable car suspended above the steep canyon for breathtaking views of the entire Blue Mountains.
Daily tours from Sydney and Katoomba head to the Jenolan Caves. Scientists estimate that the limestone formations there date back at least 340 million years. The Blue Mountains hiking tours that explore Aboriginal culture start from Faulconbridge Station.

About the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains
This World Heritage area is home to vast eucalyptus forests, whose trees emit gases that create a natural blue haze, giving the Blue Mountains their name. The fine droplets of oil released by the trees mix with water vapor and, when refracted by sunlight, produce the distinctive brilliant colors.
From the cliff-top lookouts, marvel at the lush, verdant peaks of the entire nature reserve. Explore cascading waterfalls, deep gorges, and rugged sandstone plateaus while learning about the ancient heritage left by Aboriginal people in the area. Step into the Jenolan Caves to witness nature's craftsmanship, with limestone crystals of various shapes and underground rivers flowing gently.
There are many exciting activities in the mountains, including rock climbing and abseiling. For instance, the Blue Mountains Adventure Tours offers guided walks, the Tread Lightly Eco Tours provides ecological tours, and the Blue Mountains Walkabout explores Aboriginal culture. You can even join the three-day trekking tour offered by Life’s an Adventure for a challenging experience.
A train from Sydney's Central Station takes you to Katoomba in two hours, from where buses can take you to key attractions such as the Scenic World's cable cars. Additionally, bus companies like AAT Kings and Gray Line offer tours from city center hotels.
