    Wow indeed! I just started on Luna and the Studer tape and Neve summing sounds so good! Sonically given me that analog warmth I’ve been looking for. Welp! Grab a snack and go to part 2 of your mixing. 😅! 👊🏾💯

    Very good basic training! I think the biggest difference was with the tape. In my headphones Neve didn't give "it" considering the very expensive cost - 300 US for one plugin! I loved the song by the way!
    Looking forward to learn more from you!!

    In LUNA you can also just use the VU meters on the tape insert instead of adding the plugin version. The tape (and LUNA in general ) sounds great to my ears!

      Absolutely! Just as long as you don't move the input knob (it's hard for me to remind myself to keep away from that in the gain-staging stage). Cheers!

    Great tutorial !! How you make the 3rd party plugin's GUI to showing up in Luna's inserts ? Thanks.

      I made a quick little video on how to do that here:
      th-cam.com/video/7sS-Mx8BdNM/w-d-xo.html
      Essentially, there is an option in the dropdown menu of the plugins.

    Amazing tutorials easy to understand! Can you do some in-depth about busses and groups etc please.
    Also when gain staging when turning down the higher sounding instruments to around 0 on the VU metre do you turn up the lower sounding instruments to around 0 on the VU metre? Thank you, I’m a newbie 😐

    Hi, watched all your Luna videos and they are so awesome. It helped me a lot to work in Luna. Looking forward to your future Luna recoding videos. A question: I am a opera singer and using mainly 2 track instrumentals. It can be orchestra or something more modern. I record the vocal and try to mix it into the instrumental track using only UAD plug ins that came with my Apollo x4 and the platinum deal. I bought the SSL4000 and a bx mastering plug in -- The difficult part is that the dynamic vocal doesn't fit so well in the 2 track. Would be cool if you would like to make a tutorial video how to do that in the best way possible - incl how you would set up the vocal chain in Luna with the busses with delay etc so I finally can have a good sounding recoding :-) would be a great help. Hope I not ask for the impossible from you :-)

    Why didn’t you just put a vu meter on the master to gain stage each track ?

    If the VU Meter is so important then why doesn't U Audio have their own plug in?

  • @madfurda3961
    @madfurda3961 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What VU meter plug-in did you use?

  • @andrewhocher
    @andrewhocher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So for the gain staging part, do you want to have each track at 0 or bellow 0 and is there a certain target to hit for different instruments?

    • @owlwoodsouth
      @owlwoodsouth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good question. I think the most proper answer would be "it depends". But more specifically, if you are using a VU meter like I am in this video, make sure that the VU meter is calibrated to -18dBFS. This means, simply, that when the VU meter's needle hits the 0, the "loudness" of the signal is at -18dBFS. The measurement of "dBFS" stands for "decibels relative to full scale", and this is important in digital recording because 0dBFS is the loudest you can go without clipping and basically hurting things, especially ears. :) Making sure to keep amplitudes around the -18dBFS level is generally the goal so that there is plenty of headroom for an entire mix.
      Having said that, there are some types of instruments that are kind of hard to measure with a VU meter. Things with short transients, like a snare, may not push the VU meter like a bass would. So it's a good practice to watch the VU meter plugin, as well as the track's metering (which is showing "peak") and that will give you a good idea of where the track's amplitude or loudness is.
      Cheers!

    Not entirely sure why you picked 6/8 as the time signature. It's actually 4/4.

    • @Taylor-ip6ek
      @Taylor-ip6ek 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ...but it is 6/8 though

    13:10. Bro, you have to explain the WHOLE process which is: 1.) Hold down OPTION, 2.) While Holding OPTION select a TRACK (This will automatically select ALL Tracks, 3.) While STILL Holding Down OPTION select a TAPE slot of the first track, 4.) Select the tape machine of your choice by clicking the letter "A" for that tape machine... This will automatically put a tape emulation on ALL the selected tracks.... In my opinion thi sis too many goTdann steps for one task
