i remember when i was spending my vacation in the small commune in Bretagne. it was impossible to use my mobile phone. i was only getting signal on the cliff. but having to travel to find signal was fun indeed ( for a tourist ) , it allow me to discovered a lot of cool place.

That was an interesting story. It needs updating in the age of Covid19. I imagine more people have moved to the countryside to have more space to breathe. Those villages don't look as deprived as some areas in Spain. Spain has thousands of abandoned villages, no services of any kind nearby. But, it is a lot cheaper than living in France.
I'm guessing that is part of the plan of the world economic forum is getting people out of the villages and into "smart cities". In 20 years I imagine majority of rural towns in the world will be abandoned.

In Canada, virtually every village has at least one cell phone provider, and this is a huge country geographically. Why can't France adopt a similar practice? I live in a smaller town, and we have high speed internet comparable to any city (9,000 people).

Glad to see the country doing something specific to tackle the growing trend of leaving the countryside and moving to the city for jobs. Having a healthy countryside, including small towns and farms is very important for the overall health of the France in general. Plus, I do believe it is the government's responsibility to invest in its own people by providing some opportunity for them to then come up with their own ideas and way to survive. And this opportunity is solid and quick internet access to as many disparate regions as possible.
Doctors and nurses can volunteer and vacation at the same time in a quiet place.Macron needs to stop concentrating on globalism and help this people first

It's ironic. My parents have the optic fiber broadband in the middle of nowhere village of 200 ppl in Poland and connection is way quicker than mine in Berlin! I'm really surprised to see from all EU countries, the zone blanche in so many places in France and so little fact broadband connection. France can be pretty attractive for digital nomads with families that could boost those communities, but fast internet access is essential to attract them.

Do like Florida did. Retirees need a place to live. 3 retirees equal one manufacturing job. Huge wave of of people can bring a new economy to a small town. They bring cash to buy houses, move savings into local banks, buy food and love movies, theater etc.. spend a lot of money for health care and bring a wealth of knowledge which can be used for volunteer work. What they look for are low taxes, fair food prices, safe, friendly inviting environment. We make economic zones for businesses to lower their cost, why not do the same for retirees.

Now we have cell phones for about 25 years, and suddenly people can't live without it anymore and are even complaining of bad cell phone service. Come on! Stop complaining and just think! There are many solutions. Satelite phones, satelite internet, main lines. Or you can put an special antenna on the roof of your house for extended range. I grew up in a small town in rural France, a doctor came from eastern Europe stayed ther less than a year before leaving because he couldn't find a place to open his office in a city less than 500 Km from the village ( just a first step for him he thought ). He was as racist as you are, even some of the localy known racists considered he was going a bit too far sometimes. Didn't heard from him since, some say he went back to his country. We had a liberal nurse in a nearby village, not white nor christian. worked hard, nice person and ( contrary to the previous case ) didn't complained about on standby work.

If you are really desperate, Starlink internet is an option in remote locations. Problem in many of these regions is the lack of an economy.

I went to the top of Margalla hills on hiking and then I found out that that not only 3G was useable but 4G was at lightning speed. Please note, Margalla hills are located in poor Global South, Asia (Pakistan), yeah the same poor global south that was once perceived as inferior and born to the servitude of colonists!
