  • This tutorial explains in-depth the messages, or Protocol Data Units (PDUs) that are used by SNMP version 1, 2 and 3. It presents the Get, Set, GetNext, GetBulk, Trap and Inform PDUs, explains how these PDUs differ between the various SNMP versions, shows the errors that may occur and illustrates these protocol operations via many examples. Note that this is an in-depth tutorial; a short version of this tutorial is also available.

Thank you so much for the video. But, the problem is audio quality is 3 out of 5. If possible, i request you to add subtitles, so that it would really help a lot.

Agent is listening for messages on port 161, to what port will it send a response?

The manager sends the request to the destination (=agent) port 161. As source (=his own) port it chooses an unused port. The UDP packet containing the request message includes both ports. The agent therefore knows the source port of the manager, and uses this port as destination port in the response.

Can you be a bit more specific what has been unclear? Maybe we can use your (and other) feedback to create an update version. Or do you want 1 in depth video on GetBulk??

      Hi FLAMINGO Project ,
actually i wanted to know how get bulk works .how max repeaters and non repeaters function with scenarios .
And if yo could also cover traps (variable binding ) it would be great .
I know its too much to ask for ...Or could you share any document that explains it .
      Thanks
      Prateek

Regarding the get bulk, there are a couple of examples after minute 25. Both non-repeaters as well as max-repetition are explained using some examples. But I do absolutely agree that much more can be said. But if more people would appreciate more detailed coverage if some PDUs, we could probably create some specialist videos (like: how to retrieve tables; many people do that the wrong way). For further reading and more details, I recommend to just read the standards (see our video on "SNMP / Internet Management Standards). There are some old books that are OK (like Stallings), but they are hard to get and really expensive. Bye, Aiko

Bad audio quality. Lots of irritating tongue clicks
